Military Brides

how to word invitations

I'm getting married in August, and my fiance is a sergeant in the Army (well, technically Massachusetts Guard)
I saw a few different ways of wording the invitation but am not sure which one is correct. Do I list him as Sergeant Last Name or just his first & last? Also, for the branch do I put Guard or Army? I am so new to all this, so any help is appreciated! Thanks

Someone else smarter than me will have a better answer for this, and will possibly even tell me I'm wrong, but I'm pretty confident that you'd list his branch as Massachusetts Army National Guard.

Rank-wise I'm not sure you'd include it in the invitation... unless you were going to be Miss Jane Smith (or Dr. or whatever other title you might have).

For enlisted, you don't put rank. I think it's dumb, but that's the rule. My FI is also a Sergeant, but it's just

I did Lieutenant Colonel full name, then branch (miy husband was already retired).

Stan is correct. Really enlisted should only have his branch. And I think it's really only necessary if you're having a full on military wedding.

Question samijoe and wishicould, do we have to put the branch? I'm not planning on it, but I don't want to have poor etiquette on them invitations.

We didn't. We didn't have a traditional military wedding, so we didn't see the need. I think that our branches were put in the wedding announcement that went in the paper, but that was it. I think it's only a must for like a traditional military wedding.
