Dude, everyone should have a videographer

I'm rewatching the long video, and H is deployed, and I am so, so grateful for it. It's the bomb.

Some highlights:

My parents' pastor said before our vows, "Marriage is like a helicopter ride, lots of ups and downs".

I called my H motivating in my vows.

I ripped my veil off because it got in ma way.

My flower girl was the cutest thing you'll ever see.

My MOH (an Airman) said Hooah at us, lol.

Getting to hear my H's vows while he's deployed is basically the best thing ever.

The aforementioned hilarity of our entrance to the reception (the bridal party walked into Born in the USA by Bruce, and us to the NFL on Fox theme, not only did I do a touchdown, but you can see me doing the safety signal and then saying, "two points"!)

The terror on my face before we launch into our crazy first dance is hilarious.

My MOH's toast about how she and I met on the internet (it's true, it was on MN on TN!).

My H, in blues, dancing like crazy to California Girls by Katy Perry. His friends dancing up on him was pretty hilarious too!

It's just so awesome. And it wasn't a lot of money. H didn't think it was a necessity, but it totally was, especially, IMO, for a military couple.

If any SD people need a good dude, http://www.cloudbreakfilms.com/ was amazing for us. We were at a point where we really needed someone (we got ditched by our original choice shortly before the wedding) and he stepped in and was amazing and inexpensive.

I am soooooo jealous right now!  We didn't want to spend the money on a videographer and I kind of regret it.  The ceremony was such a blur, I don't remember what my paster said in her sermon.  I had my brass quintet play, and I wish I could go back and listen.

I'm so glad you're enjoying watching yours!  What you said about hearing H's vows while he is deployed just about brought me to tears!

Oh no no no!!  Not sad tears....just general emotion b/c I thought what you said about the vows was really sweet.  I guess I never thought about how being a military couple would make having a video even better.  Sorry I made you think that you made me sad!  H is not currently deployed...I was just excited for you that you had your video to watch while he is away =)

Ohhhh Stan. We didn't have a video either, but I remember my ceremony vividly and just thinking about the silly things made my heart happy. Then I got happy for you that you're able to have that. It's so special : We do have a video of ourselves talking about our relationship that we played during our recrption. I think I'm gonna go watch that now!

I didn't want to spend the money on a videographer either. I don't think I would have ever watched. To be honest we still have not picked out pictures for an album. Haa

Hmm perhaps I should reconsider hiring a videographer. Gotta find room in the budget now though :-/

We didn't get one either. I'm ok with it though. I wouldn't have minded one but it wasn't in the budget. Especially since I moved in the middle of planning.

We didn't get one either. We really didn't have room in our budget for one. A good friend has a video of us walking down the aisle as H and W and apparently my brother has one of the ceremony. Which was really sweet and totally unexpected.
We're okay with the fact that we didnt have one though. If it had been affordable, and had we had the room in our budget I definitely would of gotten one though.

I feel like even if you don't hire a videographer, there's got to be a friend with a camera who can record the ceremony.  I think that's the most important part, if you're going to record anything.  I definitely want that, the rest is gravy.

Oddly, my reason for wanting the wedding video was more to do with my grandparents than my FI and me.  I have looked at wedding videos from my aunts where our great aunts and uncles are in them, and it's nice to have these living pictures of people who have since passed away.  I'd love to someday show my kids and be able to say, "This was me dancing with my grandpa."

Stan, I'm totally giving a speech at Sam's next wedding about how we met online Wink

I love our video too.The awesome thing about our videographer was we got him to do interviews with our VIPs at the rehearsal and day of.

My MOH says in hers "(Insert H's name) I hope you make Shannan laugh everyday because she has the best laugh in the world and it's what I'm going to miss most when you take her away to travel the world." makes me cry every time.

He also got my Grandpa saying "I'm glad you guys married your best friend and teammate, because in life you're going to have highs and lows but if you work together to make it through there isn't anything better."

I'm a huge sap for family videos.

Stan I think I know what I'm going to do this wknd. haha.

I just tasked FI with finding someone to do some sort of video..... We thought about getting a student from the local college to do our video... Experience... cheap... why not?

We didn't have video for the JOP or VR.  I can't find the camera card with our JOP pics.  I'm pretty sure it's in the camera that DH took to Afghanistan.

I am with Cal- There isn't room in our budget for a videographer, but we have tons of friends with video cameras, and I am definitely exploiting at least one to set up a camera to film the ceremony, then hopefully do some mini interviews of VIP guests. :)

I really do wish videography was in our budget, but since it isn't, we're going to do what we can... we could have possibly gone with a less expensive photographer and then had a low cost videographer, but we both felt our money was better spent on the quality photos and just have someone take video for us.

IMO having a videographer is not just about being good with a camera. Our videographer hooked H up to a mic so I could hear him talk to my mom while he escorted her down the aisle, his breath speed up when he saw me round the corner down the aisle, him whisper questions throughout the ceremony (since he wasn't listening during rehearsal lol)  and how pretty I looked during our first look etc. Obviously these are things I remember but it's something that photo's can't express. So when we are long gone, our great-grandkids, and everyone else can hear how happy and sappy in love we are/were.

I'm not trying to persuade others it's a must have; and I am in no way judging those that don't have one, the aforementioned points were simply our reasons for hiring one.

yeah, I totally get that. It'd be nice if they weren't so expensive. The least expensive videographer package in our area is almost 1/2 of our total wedding budget.... I understand that it takes a lot of work and time, and that's what you're paying for- and hence the quality won't be as great with a friend who is your videographer, but I figure it's got to be better than nothing.

Shan, your reasons are mainly why I hired the videographer we did.  Priority #1 was at least having a video of the ceremony, but since we did have it in our budget, priority #2 is to make sure it's a video we'd actually want to watch, and to catch the special little moments and expressions.

All this talk of videographers made me go stalk mine, and he's posted a bunch new videos since I last looked.  Outside ceremonies are usually pretty tough to get good sound, but he's amazing.  I am just SO excited to see my own video!

very true. There wasn't a lot of choices in our city, but Bob (our pick) was around$800 and was more than I could have asked for. :) He does it on the side of his FT job because it allows him to use his creative side. It's like Photography, the equipment is really expensive, sophisticated and the editing is very time consuming. He couldn't find enough work to make money full time, but it's still his true/real passion.

If I were you, I'd ask the ceremony site if they have an extra portable mic. Most clergy use them now- it may be an easy fix in your case for sound quality.

Ours was indoor, but the Church is old and kinda echoy so the Mic fixed that problem. Our biggest problem was the Church's restrictions on movement. Father made sure to tell the photographer and videographer they couldn't move around and were not to go further than the first pew. Father finally let our videographer set up multiple cameras at different angles (and enlisting the help of his wife) since he couldn't really move around. In the end, our video was great but our Photographer being only one person couldn't do much.

My FI and I unfortunately can't afford a videographer, but luckily, my Uncle is kind of a master with the video camera, and I'm planning on asking him to video at least our reception. I'm not sure yet if video cameras are allowed at the JOP. I have to ask. If they are, I might ask him to tag along for that.

My sister filmed FI asking me to marry him, and I watch that all the time. It helps when I get lonely. So I know I'd really make the most out of a wedding video.

I don't really want people running around during our ceremony anyway - we were at a friend's over-the-top wedding in San Diego a few years ago, and all I remember from the ceremony was the photographers darting everywhere.  I think I'm going to ask mine to be as minimally invasive as possible.  I don't know if there's an easy way to do that?

man, that's a much better price than I've found in my area. The least expensive one in my area has packages STARTING at just above 3k. Good idea about the mic maybe we can get our sound people to rent an extra... we're getting married at a private home, so we're providing all the staff/equipment... hmmm.
