Alternative to a Ring Bearer Pillow

I'm having a young ring bearer in my wedding (about 5 yrs old), but am not crazy about having him carry a pillow.  It just seems so awkward to me.

Does anyone have any other ideas?  It's a casual outdoor wedding in the botanic gardens at the park.

I'm not crazy about the ring dish--if I won't trust him with my rings, I certainly don't want to give him something breakable!  I've also heard of bird's nests, but birds are nowhere to be found in my theme.  I'm thinking about doing a teddy bear--any thoughts on that?

I appreciate your suggestions!

I thought this was a cute idea and a nice keepsake.  You could match your colors and make it more 5-yr-old-boy friendly.
  • I think it would be fine if he carried a teddy bear but IMO it seems just as out of place as a birds nest would be if you don't have bears in your theme.

Another alternative is that can escort the flower girl down the aisle and not carry anything. Just walk next to the flower girl as she tosses the petals.

  • I'm not a huge fan of the pillows either, but I think something like this could work well for an outdoor ceremony: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25176776
I do like the idea of a stuffed animal, but for some reason the idea of carrying a teddy bear always throws me.

Is there something that has special significance for you and your FI that he could carry down either literally or symbolically?  For instance, my FI and I did long-distance for a year and so we were always driving to see each other.  So we could have the ring bearer carry down (fake) rings on a key chain to represent that.  That's just off the top of my head and probably a bad example, but just an idea to maybe get you thinking. :)

  • I saw a ring bearer carrying Optimus Prime down the aisle in one wedding.  His only job is to be cute, so he can carry whatever sort of prop you want him to, or nothing at all.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Hi I'm having an outdoor wedding on our beach at home.

Our Ring Bearer and Flower Girl will be walking down the isle together carrying a treasure chest.

It is very light and fits with our beach theme.  I will be putting a styrofoam block in it and filling the top with shells and pearls.

  • First of all, young ring bearers usually don't carry the real rings anyway.  The real ones are held by the BM and/or MOH.

Your RB can carry symbolic rings in a basket, tied around a teddy bears neck, tied to a book that's meaningful to you, or to a Bible.  He can carry a box, put the rings in the back of a toy truck, or in a sand pail.  He can carry a pretty bag.  Walk around a craft store and let your imagination take it from there.

  • FI and I are big football fans, so our ring bearer will be carrying a small football.

Like PP said, their job is to look cute! So have some fun with it.
  • My ring bearer is my younger cousin, he will be 4 when we get married. I think I might find a butterfly stuffed animal and tie rings around its neck for him to carry because he loves bugs, especially butterflies.
  • My sister had an "Under The Stars" theme and the ring bearer carried a small metal star trinket box.  She bought it at Things Remembered.  I would just make it something that you really like.  No need for it to be a pillow.
