Military Brides

Morning!

Happy hump day everyone! I'm headed to the gym with my mom and then we are getting mini facials. Love that. :-) I hope to get lunch with my grandpap too. Tomorrow, my brother is driving me back to Virginia. He is going to stay with me and Tim tomorrow night. He isn't a dog person, so we will see how this goes over! Haha :-)

Re: Morning!

  • Oh what a fun day you've got planned!

I just got up not too long ago, don't have too much going on today but will head out for a few errands this morning. H is on duty today too, it seems like he's never home with this 3 section duty days, I want to end already!

Good luck to your brother with the dogs! Wink
  • Hike that sounds like a fun day planned!

Kara - I'm sorry about the duty rotation, that sounds like it really sucks!

I'm working this morning and fighting with TCC (a community college back in VA) - I had a huge to-do with them last year in Feb about issuing a student loan I had cancelled (I didn't think the GI Bill would pay for 18 credit hours and they did.. so I didn't need it) and thought it was taken care of until yesterday when I recieved a disembursment... umm I havent attended there since March. And come to find out after calling the loan company, interest has been accruling on the account since March. So until TCC wants to return them their check, I'm screwed. Not to mention, I apparently have a payment due on the 9th because they didn't cancel it?! Ughh. What a mess.

Other than that, work today, wedding stuff, and getting my rear end into the gym tonight. Happy Hump Day!!

  • Amh: That really sucks and I hope TCC fixes it. Btw, we live VERY close to the campus here.

I just have a mini vent. I get that people have their opinions and affiliations, but I hate it when stupid things are said. Case in point, this is my BIL's status for the day:

    One
    Big
    Ass
    Mistake
    America

He's said other stupid things about POTUS before, and I've contained myself in not replying, but I was in a bit of a bad mood today and replied. It's completely unnecessary to go bashing the POTUS.

Yeah - they're a great school, I've loved the professors I've had with them and the classes I've taken. BUT their financial aid department SUCKS.

It really bothers me when people turn FB into a HUGE political depate forum type thing. I get everyone has their own opinions, but I don't like airing mine on FB. It just makes me mad when people make ignorant comments and then gets me all upset. LOL. I think politics become something pretty personal, and very heatetd very fast and discussing them through the internet (where things can be taken so out of context) I don't think it ever ends well.

  • Kara I agree with you!! I had a friend on fb that had a horrible tasteless joke about the president dying, and her husband is a Marine. I think it was just so wrong.

  • I get to spend another exciting day in Ames, IA at FIL's parents' house. I just wish they had the Internet. Posting from my phone is getting irritating. Other than that I have to bundle up for my daily run since it's freaking cold here. I miss the desert already.

So, I am just a bit frustrated with life, haha.

First, FI had sent me a package, he had bought (with my money) an android tablet from the NEX and was going to mail it to me and it was supposed to come in yesterday. Well, yes it did, but being an apartment complex they did not leave the package in the package boxes for my apartment building, they took it back to the post office for me to pick it up. The post office opens an hour and a half after I leave for work, and closes an hour before I get home.  I live an hour from work so going to the PO on my lunch break isn’t good. So, I have to wait until Saturday to get it. Not worth the $20 priority shipping.

Second and more importantly, FI will probably be leaving for a detachment a few days after we get married. At least he will be there for the wedding, so I can’t complain too much… But, the way it looks is that we will be moving across country for our honeymoon, not exactly what anyone has in mind when they think honeymoon. This is the 5th time they have moved this detachment in the past 2 months, I wish they would make up their mind and quit making me crazy!!

  • I am sore sore sore this morning. I guess my cardio bosu instructor's New Years resolution was to see how badly she could punish us for all of our Holiday treats.  I swear at one point I was seeing little stars and I am pretty sure my face turned a color of red that is not meant to be seen on a human.  It was a really good class though.  :)

H just told me his leave got moved AGAIN!!! UGH!  Oh well at least I get to see him...maybe!

Happy Wednesday to everyone.  Bright side this week is almost over!  YAY!

  • Amh: Great to know that about TCC. I am thinking about maybe taking some classes from there, but I'm not quite sure yet since we're not here for that long. For  now, I just want to work and make money again!

Amanda: Sorry you're having a crappy day. That sucks about FI's situation, although since you said they've changed it multiple times, they might change it again. Just go with the flow, that's all we can really do.

I agree with Amh, why do people turn FB into a political forum, really? Most of H's family is Republican and hate the president and they post stuff like that on FB, well  not my ILs, they're great. I really hate it because it's hard to contain myself sometimes and I don't want to end up in an argument with them.

  • Kara, I totally agree.  I feel like people can make their opinions known, and can vote however they choose, but show some respect.  When I went to Obama's inauguration, when President Bush flew over in the helicopter, people were flipping him off and mooning him and singing, "Na na na na, good bye" like you hear at the end of a hockey game to rub it in the other team's face.  I was horrified!  Show some respect, these people are giving up their lives to serve our country.  Just because you disagree with their policies, that is no excuse to be disrespectful.  Vote them out, campagin against them, lobby for changes in Congress, but show some damned respect.

Hike, good luck with the drive!  I'm sure it'll be a bit sad, but keep your chin up.  Sounds like you've had a nice visit with your family, how wonderful that your H knew that you needed it.  He seems very thoughtful and understanding!

I'm on a wedding roll - I booked a bagpiper and drums yesterday, a makeup and hair stylist for me and my Mom, and am finalizing the tent & chair rentals.  So close to being done!

DH and I are Republican but, we like the president. Overall, he does good work. I feel like the like/dislike of a president based on party is kind of ridiculous and old school. All presidents have their faults and good qualities. Judge them based on what they do, not their party. I don't even always vote for republicans. My grandma does though, like I said, old school.

  • Amanda, I'm in the same boat!  We're going to likely be driving down to South Carolina two days after the wedding.  Ah well!  Stuff happens, we plan to take a honeymoon within a few months thereafter (maybe over Thanksgiving?) if we can't take it right after.  Sorry it keeps getting pushed around, hopefully it won't interfere at all.

Color me ignorant, but what's the difference between a detachment and a deployment?

Also, speaking of South Carolina, it's now like 90% sure we'll be going to Parris Island!!!!  FI heard from the head of the law depot yesterday, who is a Colonel (and one of the only JAGs currently at that level, they typically cap out around Lt Col).  He told FI that he would request him specifically.  Since it's TDY and not a PCS, they're not too particular on where they go and if this Colonel requests him, it's basically a shoe-in that we'll be going back (I say only 90% because 10% is the Marines just being unpredictable).  So YAY!!!  Sara, we're going to be neighbors in September!!!!

  • Hola Ladies. I'm skyping with H at the moment while my Dog is chilling on my lap. :) I plan to deep clean my apartment today after volunteering then hit up my kickboxing class tonight. Nothing crazy but it is nice to be back in our place.

Amanda - 5 moves in 2 months is a lot! But if it makes you feel better my H was only able to fly in for the wedding and left right after. You'll be able to take your HM at some point. I've talked to a lot of people that enjoy taking it a little later anyway.
  • C: I agree. I didn't like Bush too much but I also never disrespected him in any way. Like you said, if someone doesn't like what a government official is doing, campaign against them and vote them out. Also, a detachment could be an underway/deployment, but it could also be for training, but I could be wrong too.

Sammy: I couldn't agree more with you. I'm not very big when it comes to politics nor am I affiliated with a particular party. When a person does something great for the country, I respect them for that. I really just hate when people bash others, especially those who don't really know what is going on, and I hate it even more when people don't realize how difficult it is to run/head a country. We're in a depression, it doesn't just take a day or two, not even a few years to get out of it.
  • I really miss being able to post from a computer...but I've had such a great time with my family. :) My mother and I have been discussing how to go about this wedding planning business...EEEEKKKKK!!!! :D (I'm really excited about this lol) But we have decided to wait until FI knows exactly what he's doing. (Staying in the reserve's and going through more training and possibly airborne school or going AD) It's been such a great journey thus far and the time apart has actually brought us closer together :)                                                                          HAPPY HUMP DAY EVERYONE! :D
  • Morning!! Finally back at work after a nice long vaca, though still kicking the last of my chest cold. Other than that, I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things, catching up on emails.

Ditto everyone on respecting the President of the United States, whomever they may be. And it's just ignorant to think that everyone will always do everything right (or wrong)--I mean, they are human and they don't have the only say in how things work, for better or worse.

    image
  • I might be put under the whipping wheel for this. But I'm not particularly an Obama fan, I'm a Republican, but I won't vote for someone just because they claim they are a Republican, I vote for someone on their stances on topics and what they say they will do, and hope they will do it. But on that same token though - I won't do out and disrespect the President. That doesn't get anyone anywhere, and it's childish. Like Kara said, you have the oppertunity to make your voice heard by voting in the primaries and caucases (sp) and in the election, so if you don't like it, go and vote.

  • Good morning!  We got our new dog last night and it's been interesting so far, but going pretty well.  Stewie doesn't really know how he feels about it yet, but he's being very good to her.  Last night was interesting when we went to bed because she wouldn't lay down and was jumping at every noise and everything going on, and just wouldn't settle.  I haven't gotten her a crate yet since H wanted to see if they got along well enough to just get one big crate and let them share, so I ended up switching and putting her bed in Stewie's crate and closing her in there.  Once I did that she slept through the night fine, so I need to go get her a crate today.

I'm also a little on edge with the stuff going on with Iran, but it is what it is and there is nothing i can do about it.

Hike- good luck on the drive!
Kara- sorry about the crappy duty schedule, hopefully it changes soon.
Amanda- things could always change, but if that does happen it isn't the end of the world.  We moved cross country about 5 weeks after the wedding, and didn't go on our "honeymoon" until about 8 months later.  But the fact tthat we were able to get the wedding we wanted and H was there was more than enough for us and we were dealt with the rest how we had to.

Beach: I love your new siggy! Have you named the new dog yet? Her and Stewie are both so cute, although I can't really tell from the picture which one is which, but is Stewie on the right? We are thinking about getting a dog, H called our realtor to ask the owner about getting one. We know of 2 breeds that we want, hopefully we can go and take a look at them soon!
H showed me an article about Iran yesterday, I told him, do you think this will affect your deployment at all? He said no, and the Navy won't feel threatened by it. Same thing with North Korea and his last old ship, although I was really nervous for them because NK was making threats of shooting down his ship before.

Amh: No one would flame you for that. We all have our opinions and ideals, it's just the ignorance and disrespect that bothers me with others.

I agree. I think thats why a lot of polictical discussions get so heated. I love having them, face to face - even when its with someone who completely disagree's with me. But I love hearing new sides to stories, or why they agree with a certain position KWIM? I also think that the disrespectfulness has caused a lot of grief between the two parties, a lot of people blantly disrespected Bush, but when the tables are turned those same people get extremely upset when others blantly disrespect Obama - I think that alone causes so many issues. It would be nice, especially in such an important spectrum, if people were more respectful towards one another and not so ignorant about situations.

Yes, Stewie is on the right.  The people we got her from named her Phoebe, so we were just sticking with that.  She doesn't really seem to answer to it though so I might change it.  We'll see though.
That's awesome that you guys are thinking of getting a dog.  I think it helps during deplyoments and underways too since you're not alone in the house, even if it is an animal that can't talk.  What breeds are you thinking of?

And yeah that's basically how I feel with the situation, but it will be interesting to see what happens.  I've seen lots of articles linked on FB, but it's basically the same info.  I figure I'll see how things go with the scheduled port visits and if those don't change then I'll feel more comfortable.

  • AMH, I also think it's important for people to realize when they've shared their opinions, the conversation has reached its conclusion, and it's okay to agree to disagree.  I have a friend who we share 95% of our political beliefs, but we were talking about one specific issue on which we disagreed (tax-related) and he just kept going and going.  The first 20 minutes were interesting and I learned more about the other perspective, but after that he was just badgering me to "prove" to him that I was "right" or "admit I was wrong".  Um... no?

Thanks Ladies, I know it isn’t the end of the world, but I have just had one of those weeks, and the cherry on top was hearing yet again that the Navy has changed their minds! Ha! But, life will move on and it will all work out in the end. Being positive helps in these situations.

As far as politics goes, I am a republican, But I lean more on the moderate side with a lot of social issues…I am not a fan of Obama, but I respect him and would never talk bad about him. I don’t understand arguing about politics, people aren’t going to change their minds if I yell at them about my personal beliefs. I don’t really have that much of a problem on my facebook because I like to unfriend people who start drama. =)

  • Beach: That's why H wants to get a dog, so it could keep me company while he's deployed. We really like yorkshire terrier and maltese, they're both SO cute! We'll check out the shelter first and if we don't find one there, we'll look at pet stores. I have been looking on Craigslist too. We still need to wait on the approval from the owner of the townhouse first before we get one though, then the community management needs us to fill out some forms before they approve the pet too.

Are you thinking of making a port visit? Hopefully the schedule don't change too much, even with H's ship too.

Amh & Cal: I especially hate it when people go on and on, they need to learn to agree to disagree. I just rest my case most of the time, instead of being in an argument forever.
