Military Brides

How do I properly address an invitation?

Neither my fiance or I are in the military, but a lot of his friends are, so I thought you ladies could probably help.  We're having a formal wedding, how do I properly address the invitations to his buddies and their wives?  Right now, after doing a lot of internet research that says conflicting things, we currently have:

First Lieutenant John Doe, United States Marine Corps
and Mrs. Jane Doe
Address
Address

Is this correct?

Re: How do I properly address an invitation?

  • It's really your choice, but if you're not having a military wedding you do not have to address their invitation with their rank.  Personally I would just address it the same as all of your other invitiations.  Unless you know for sure that they go by their rank on a regular everyday basis.

  • I agree with beach and I'm going to assume that they probably dont go by their rank on and everyday, regular basis. Beach- its been a while :-) I've missed you

  • I personally would use their rank, same as I would address an MD by their title. However, that's how you would put them in a program or whatever. To address an invitation to them, I would just put, "Lt. and Mrs. John Smith" or whatever. They know what branch they're in.

  • My quote button seems to have disappeared.  Anyways, I'd go with what the previous poster said.
  • I'm going to ditto Stan.  Their rank is their title and should be used to address them on an invitation.
