Gifts for Husband

Hi girls!

As I've said before, we are headed to Georgia in Feb. H will start deployments at that time. We will have little communication during that time because of how deep he will be.

Right now, I'm trying to think of birthday/christmas gifts to get him that could be a nice gift for when he leaves. I think I'm going to do a Boudoir session for Christmas and give him an album to take with him. I'm totally embarrassed about that because I am not comfortable in my body at all but I think he would really like it.

Did you do anything special or get your SOs anything special when they left?

Thanks!

When FI starts MUTA 5s I'm gonna start writing love letters. He'll only be gone 3 days but still. I'm gonna spray them with my perfume.

Can I ask why you aren't comfortable with your body?

I hope none of that breaks OPSEC

Well, long story short, I had an eating disorder in college.

I'm still coming to terms with my body. I've come a long way but I don't think eating disorders every REALLY go away.

    I'm a work in progress :-)

Ladies, I'm sure you are both beautiful and will look *amazing* in your boudoir pics!!!

Have you ever taken belly dancing or pole classes before? Even yoga? I think those kinda helped me with my body image. I've gotten motivated and dropped about 15 lbs since January, and I feel awesome. I'm not sure when I'm gonna do it, but I am def gonna do boudoir for him before the big day. Honestly, it may kinda be more for me than him, but hey he gets to reap some rewards;)

I like to make him his favorite cookies when he's away, or just as a special treat... It's his mom's recipe, and honestly I really think they are gross... I prefer more oatmeal in oatmeal cookies, but it makes him happy!!

Also as far as boy gifts... Someone I know posted pics on fbook of brass knuckles given as a GM gift... Sounds totally awesome, so FI and I may copy the idea and give brass knuckles to his GM. Hopefully it's something they'll never need, but sure sounds cooler than cufflinks IMO:p

KendallR10 - I'm the same way. I don't think eating disorders ever go away, I struggled with anorexia from 8th grade into 10th grade, and years and years later, I still struggle with it. I just think you learn to love who you are - and that takes time. I have good days and bad days. I do think a lot of it deals with the media. Even looking through these bridal magazine's it's frustrating, wishing I looked as good as some of these girls.
Just do things you enjoy, I love hot yoga. Doing things you enjoy doing will keep you active and you can have fun doing it. Don't beat yourself up! There is no such thing as perfect, just be happy with being healthy and happy with the way you look. That's all the matters.

Kendall- Thanks girl. You too. Anytime you need to vent about it, send me a PM. I know how mind consuming it can be!

LOL- What a unique gift! I'm sure they will be so surprised!

Good news- My wedding photographer wrote me back that she would do the B session for me. I'm so pumped because I trust her.

<div>My new photog (haven't officially picked her yet, but I'm like 90% sure we're picking her) sounded totally cool, and said she does B sessions, so I think I'm going to go for that with her. Have you seen some samples of your photog's B session work? Or any examples online in general for poses and stuff? Maybe knowing what poses and outfits and stuff you'll be in will make you feel more comfortable. I'm trying to pick out outfits online that suit his taste!:) I've seen some photogs that will charge per outfit change, which just seems strange to me. Honestly I feel like, charge by the hour, so if someone wants to waste all their time changing their outfit/ hair, then whatevs. Then again, I'm not a photog in the business doing this, so there must be some kind of logical reason why.</div>

I haven't gotten into specifics with her yet but her engagement sessions are $100 and then she charges $200 for a disc of all the images. I think it'll be around that, maybe a little more.

I don't have examples of her B work but I think my wedding photos are amazing.

I was thinking of 2 outfits. Maybe one of H's button downs and heels and then some cute and sassy!

I loved loved the B pics I did, and I am not comfortable with my body. The photographer did an awesome job and made me feel great. FI really loved them as well.  I had 4 different outfits I wore, I also could have used some of hers if needed too.

Off topic, where in GA are you going to be?

GG and LHT, y'all should head to Savannah one day and we can have a GTG.

I did a B session for MH a couple years ago.  He carries the pics with him every time he leaves.
I also bought a mini digital picture frame.  It had space for 60 photos, so I loaded it up with vacay, kid, couple and a ton of other pics.
When he was hurt, the USO gave him an iPod Nano.  Before his next trip, I loaded it up with all sorts of songs he considers fun or relaxing.  I put it in a box with a sleeping mask, a new small pillow and a soft pillow case.  He says that iPod and the sleeping mask help him sleep so much better.
His birthday came around right before he left for this deployment.  I bought him a new cordless electric shaver.  His old one was just about worn out and I knew it wouldn't make it through the trip.

I think the B pics are great!!!- I do something every time the FI deploys and thats constantly. He jokes that because he deploys so much he gets very spoiled with the whole gift for a deployment thing and jokes that he signs up for rotations just because he wants something.

I haven't done B pics yet. I want to do them for his wedding gift. Ours are stupid and silly so the B pictures may be better.

My stupid silly deployment gifts: like 3 times i've written him a letter for every weeks he's gone for him to open in order. I'd put a picture of me and the dog or me or us or whatever in them as well so he'd have something like that. One time i sent him with a book series I'd already read and really liked (and had written in) so since he always is looking for a book it would be something personal and useful. Um the silliest was 2 or 3 times ago we have a running joke that i'm a little blue monster (I dont' even remember how this started) and he's a big green one. well i got a domo and died it blue (it was keychain sized) and he took it all over and took goofy pictures of it. It was retaliation for the one he gave me that was green for my birthday that year that when I was moving and such I would take all over with me and take pictures and email them to him while he was deployed for a few runs. I don't remember any others that I sent. The only others i remember where things that were for when he came home I'd have things there when he got home that he didnt know about. Some prints and our dog back once when we had just gotten the house - I hadnt even been there yet it finished with me out of town and 2 days before he deployed. Another time he left our house wasnt finished so when he got back I have the house completely finished and furnished (I woudln't normally count it as a gift except he had no idea i was doing it and didnt see anything that I bought before he came back). But you cant send those things overseas.

as you can tell we've dont this a few times.

I'll probably be up in Savannah area again after the wedding next September!  FI will be temporarily stationed somewhere after he takes the bar, before TBS, and it's likely going to be PI since the Colonel in charge of the law center really likes FI and has told him to put in his request to return next summer.  So fingers crossed!!!!  I absolutely love Savannah and would LOVE to have a Knottie GTG!

Kudos to you ladies battling body image issues and eating disorders!  I know it's not easy to make healthy decisions when you've got that monkey on your shoulder.  I'm very lucky that I tend to have a rather healthy body image, though it took a plunge this summer while FI's sister was living with me - she's 20 years old, model skinny, and always counts every calorie and talks about how fat she is, so it sort of rubbed off on me.  I started being really super critical of myself, and FI was like, "Who are you, and what did you do with the C I know?"  It's easy to drink that Kool Aid!

I totally second that pole dancing gives you tons of confidence in your own sexuality and comfortable in your own skin!  Even if you feel like you'd be goofy or awkward, trust me - you'll love it!  It's usually dark (candlelit or red lighting) and girls-only, so it's a really comfortable atmosphere.  Bring a girlfriend and just laugh at each other when you slip and fall!  Before you know it, you'll be like, "Wow, I looked damn sexy doing that move!"  And, you know, one night after a few too many drinks, you might decide to show your FI... from personal experience, as awkward and goofy as you may feel you look, chances are your FI will LOVE it!

I want to do boudoir pics - my photographers are offering free trash-the-dress session as they're trying to build up their portfolio, so I'm going to ask to see if they'd be willing to do a boudoir session!  They're a husband-and-wife team, so I'd want to have the wife do it, but I think she'd be totally down for it.

Yes, we're doing the Trash the Dress and we're psyched for it!  FI wants an opportunity to show off his tattoo a bit in photos, but we can't do it for our engagement photos this week since it'll still be scabby and healing.  We're definitely going to jump in water or go through a fountain or something ridiculous and fun!  FI wants to reenact that scene from "10 Things I Hate About You" where they throw paint-filled balloons at each other!

I love the idea of GTG :)

I am not doing a Trash the Dress session but I have a friend down here who is a photographer and FI and I might be doing pics after the wedding since we did not get to do engagement photos. (As you have all heard me complain about now). I asked FI the day he got back from deployment when he was still sleepy from his ridiculously long flight. Sneaky, I know, but that was the best way to get him to agree haha.

ladies :) awesome ideas :) but a few suggestions, grab a best friend that you are totally comfortable with and i mean like with everything and get a camera, maybe a few outfits, ie towel, sheets, his acu jacket, nurse etc. simple things gone naughty, just got to have that sexy curage :D just pick up something random and try an be a sexy vixen, you never know :);) he might like it, but take the pictures with your best friend- load them up on the computer and photoshop or photo bucket, just make the album private... for only you and him ;);) then you can play with EvErYtHiNg ;);) lol and have a few laughs about it too ;)Kiss and then you can put them on your own cd and print them at home or where ever you feel comfortable :)
