Military Brides

22 days!

It took 22 days for that package to arrive. He was "stoked". He was out on assignment for 2 weeks with little to no sleep (2hrs each day) and the package arrived the day after he got back to his hut. Perfect timing!

Thank you all for your encouragement on the stuff that I did send, you all were 100% on spot.

So I sent the other 2 packages out this week. It was all the stuff I didn't ship with the first 2 packages. I didn't want to over whelm him with 4 packages at once.

One thing that perplexed me the most out of all of this, and it's just my guesstimation, is if you live no where around a military base no one gives military discounts, even if it's plain to see the items you are purchasing are for "care packages".  I did purchase the over the counter meds and stuff at a national chain drug store. So does your national chain drug stores or just a national chain store of any sort that you live by offer a military discount if you live close or on base? Just curious. If I remember right, back in the day some did close to base.

I know some places won't say if they do unless you ask. Thats all you have to do. the worst that is going to happen is they say no,

    I don't live anywhere near a base so unless I ask I wouldn't know

Oh I asked, they just looked at me all weird with that imaginary question mark over their head and said no I don;t think so, so then the manager was called and he too had that look as well.

I have definitely never gotten a discount on care package type stuff, which I generally buy at one of the two Costcos close by.

You just have to ask. Our movie theater doesn't do Military Discounts, but the sporting goods store does.  The local YMCA & Curves offer free or discounted memberships to AD Military and Immediate family of AD Military (Mothers, Fathers, Spouses).  I've found that they really don't advertise military discounts that much at all.  Maybe more so around Memorial Day/Veteran's Day/July 4th..

Yeah, I've rarely seen them advertised. The exception that comes to mind is Disney. Funny story - we asked all our wedding vendors if they offered any sort of military discount. And we saved thousands that way! And some didn't which was also fine, obviously. But one photog I asked said, "No, we don't. We had a handicapped couple last year ask if we offered a handicapped discount, and if we started offering discounts, we'd have to give everyone discounts!". Uh, a simple"sorry, we don't" would have been fine! I did politely explain that a military discount isn't usually offered as a pity discount or because they couldn't afford it, but rather as a thank you to men and women who serve the country and fight on behalf of other American citizens. I don't think he had any idea!

Your right, some just don't have a clue! Sad but true. DD said that Home Depot gave her a miltary discount on her ferns she bought for her wedding reception. She as well saved alot by just asking but she lives in a military town. If she hadn't got the disc. at Home Depot the thought of national chains giving discounts wouldn't have entered my mind.

I could see people trying to scave the store, but how often do people buy lots of moleskin, 8 btls of eye refreshener, and such at one time when they aren't on sale.

And because I live right between 2 bases, pretty much we get a military discount everytime without asking and without them asking to see ID. I'm pretty sure they see the haircut and give the discount.
