AW: My first Sewing Project

I can't post this on facebook yet, since it's a gift so check out my first sewing project ladies!

It's a Baby Car Seat Cover

Wrapped all pretty :)

Sorry I don't have a spare car seat hanging around so I drapped it over my kitchen chairs. :)

Here is the blog I followed.

My own project yes. I learn quicky and use to watch my mom sew when I was younger.  She got me all the tools for Christmas so I'm teaching myself by trial and error and giving my creations away to friends. haha.
  • Fun! I used to sew a lot when I was younger. Didn't do it for the longest time, then I made a bag last spring that turned out really cool. We registered for a sewing machine so I can get back into it!

  • That looks awesome Shan!

  • It's nice to see other people in our age range that sew. They're few and far between.

  • Very nice!  I've seen the patterns for these on pinterest, I just haven't had a reason to make one!  That is awesome for your first project though :)

I've been asking FI for a sewing machine for the last two years.  I think he's afraid if he buys me one he'll never see me again because I'll be quilting all the time. haha

  • I Love it Shan!!

  • Shan I love it!! Great job! I keep telling H when we move and have a place to store one, I'm buying a machine ASAP. I have dreams of making cute A-line skirts for summer and stuff...damn you Pinterest.

  • Soooo cute Shan!  You did awesome!  I'm sure your friend will love it - how old is her little one?

I handsew, but don't have a machine.  I've used my Mom's machine before, though, and plan to get my own.  My Mom used to make all of our Halloween costumes herself, and I plan to do the same when I have kids - they can be anything they want, it'll be cheaper than the store, and they won't be skanky!

  • Very nice Shan! I love it! I can hand sew but not that well. I would like to learn on a machine though.
  • OOOHHH!! :) I love it! I have a few unfinished projects laying around. I need to get to work lol.                                                         I have a feeling that I should get a pintrest now...people keep mentioning it and I'm super curious. XD
  • Really cute.  I love the different patterns you chose.

I told my mom the sewing machine needed to be portable. The one I got is perfect its small but has a ton of stiching options and has a case that I can tuck under the desk, bed whenever. :) We are VERY limited on space as well.

That is really neat!! Great Job!

My mom sews, she used to make our clothes (or my dresses really) when I was younger and she quilts. She taught me how to handsew when I was 9 and then for Christmas bought me a machine. I haven't broken it out yet though, but I think pillows would be the perfect first project - simple and easy.

I think its so neat that so many of you girls sew! I didn't think many people did it! I really wish I could learn how to quilt, my moms quilts are so beautiful as are my grandmothers.

  • Oh I forgot to mention that like Calindi my mom made all of our Halloween costumes, Easter dresses, clothing and her clothing. We were really poor growing up so she made everything including window treatments, bedding and the like.
  • I wish we didn't all live all over the country.  I've been sewing/quilting since I was 4 and I need some sewing buddies and I love to help people learn.

That would be awesome!  I'd love to be able to do my own window treatments, bedding, and children's clothing! I mean, it's never a good thing to be really poor, but it's awesome your Mom was able to make you guys stuff and save money that way.  Seriously, with the crappy material and worksmanship at most of the big chain stores now, I think you could get far better items doing them yourself than buying them!  And for a fraction of the cost.

My mom was/is really good at it. Let's just say our Easter dresses rivaled those of Toddlers and Tiaras. LOL
Even 20 years ago I think the quality of products was a lot better than it is today.
