The elusive full -time Nat. Guard position

Well sent in application number 8 for the year... Here's hoping!

I don't really lurk this board as much as a should but hello from a first time poster!  I figured if anyone could relate it would be the military knottiesSmile

Little bit about me:

I'm on full time ADSW orders with the MN Nat. Guard. (FH is a non-service member)  If I didn't like Minnesota so much I'd probably go AD beause I love my job and my mos.  If any of you are familiar with the supply field I'm sure you know how hard it is to rank up let alone find a full time position with only so many NCO spots available.  I'm on orders until Sept so hopefully one of these boards go in my favor before then!

  • Good luck!
    I hate Dave Ramsey
  • Good luck to you!  I'm not familiar with Minnesota, though I have a very good friend who lives there and he says it's cold, so I don't think he likes it quite as much as you seem to!  I also don't know much about supply field, but I wish you the absolute best of luck in your boards!

How'd you and your FI meet?  How'd he propose?  When's the wedding?

<div>Silly me I forgot the important stuff!! Kinda long so bear with me please..</div><div>
</div><div>   My best friend/maid of honor/partner in crime from Drill actually set us up!  Long story short... Moved to a new town (her town) ex bf broke up with me for leaving the day before I actually moved :/  Anyways her idea of a fix my broken heart plan was to get me drunk. <-- hence best friend haha  Few days after I moved up she invited me to come over when a few of her husbands friends were coming over.  </div><div>   Little did I know she invited Andrew on purpose because she thought we'd hit it off.  Few card games and Morgan Coke's later I text her across the table to let her know just how hot I thought he was, she starts laughing because turns out he had told her the same thing!  To sum up the story we started talking and have been together ever since that night :)</div><div>
</div><div>He popped the question in July at his grandparents cabin.  We had gone up for a pre-deployment just us get away.  (ended up not deploying see following to my ridiculously long story for details)  Had a dessert only dinner from all of my favorite places and some wine :)  The ring was tied to my wine glass that my stupid self drank out of for half an hour before he actually proposed!</div><div>
    </div><div>
</div><div> Our date is Aug 10th 2013.  I was supposed to deploy this past Aug on a late mob (about a month behind the main group) So we planned on a year after I was supposed to get back.  Did all of the train up was 3 days out from leaving for Missouri and they sent 10 of us home that didn't have critical mos'.  Bummer for me but he was happy!  </div>

  • YAY for Minnesota! I miss home, and the snow you just got.

I know the knot lumps all Minnesotans into Mpls/St. Paul but if you are from the metro I spent the last 6 years there. Graduated from UST then stuck around. :)

Oh and I'm Shan, H is AD AF we're HS sweethearts.
  • It's all melting!! My sled dogs and I hate life this winter :(

I actually live in St. Cloud now but (UST= St. Thomas?  correct me if I'm wrong haha) my sister is attending grad school there so I'm familiar.

  •   I actually ran a race one year and a lady that entered was from Florida!  I guess she would put her dogs in a walk in freezer to get them used to the cold?  It's a blast though that's for sure!

Hi! I'm originally from your neighboring state to the south - and I'm not a fan of the snow, so you can keep it! I think XH was in supply at his reserve unit back home before I enlisted AD and he had to retrain in order to be assigned to a unit closer to my duty station. He really liked it, I believe, but hated the deployments and wasn't promoting as fast as he'd have liked. GL getting that position! My uncle is 32 years Air National Guard, been full-time for as long as I can remember and he loves it, so hopefully your experience will be just as rewarding. And congrats on your engagement!

I'm not from Florida originally... well, I am, I was born in Florida, but I didn't grow up here, my parents moved up to New England when I was an infant.  But yeah, definitely no sled dogs in Rhode Island still!  Snow, yes, but sled dogs, no.

  • Calindi,

There are a ton of kennels in New Hampshire,  New York and Maine!  (or atleast the kennel directory on sleddogcentral says there are!)  And alot of races in VT, NY, and PE it's definately an experience if you ever get the chance to go to a race.  The fiance is a cold pansy so he doesn't come with me very often but he has called dibs on naming the new puppies some crazy gamer names :/

Get outta here! I grew up in St. Cloud. :) My family has been filling me in on the lack of winter you guys are having. I went home for Christmas and was like... umm where's the snow guys? It was really odd to have a brown christmas. NOT FUN. My Mom said it was pretty yesterday but now it's turning to slush. :(

I'll have to PM ya with more St. Cloud/MN questions :)

I loved it. If I could go back and do it again and again and again I would. :)
  • PM away!  Your mom is so right the roads are soupy as all get out.  My poor little car was crying when I had to drive gravel yesterday.  Apparently a foot of snow and then 39 degrees the next day is not the best mix.
