Before I sign the reception contract - Questions.

So I was wanted to ask you guys what questions I should ask my reception venue before turning in our deposit/signing the contract? We decided on what we want, they gave us a hefty discount on the room rental, about half off. And after a ton of looking/exploring I wanted to see what I should ask before signing away?
Thanks for the input!

I just commented on a thread something similar  but different to this. The OP was having a difficult time getting the venue to call her back after they  made the deposit. She was calling for a price list of rentals( I am guessing chairs and stuff) and also after talking with another bride(not on TK I believe) She had found out the venue didn't have their own liquor license, so she will have to pay $300 I think for a special venue one.

Also ask if they offer a military discount and if they have a military clause in their contract if you have to change the date due to deployment.

Definitely get a military clause in your contract, like PP said!

I have a massive list of questions - I had to book mine sight-unseen, so I asked about a million.  If you want all of them, PM me your email and I'll send them over.  It's way too big to post!

Thanks ladies. I'm not too worried about the military clause, we are on shore duty for the next 2 years so unless there is ww3 FI won't deploy until 2014. But I guess it won't hurt to have that in there just in case.

    Calindi - I sent you a PM. :)

Sending you the email... as soon as I can find the darn thing...

We are in a similar situation - he will not be active duty yet by the time we get married, though he'll likely be on temporary duty (they basically have them working after they take the bar exam, but they are treading water until they get notice that they passed at which point they'll tell them when the next slot at TBS is available).  So we told all our vendors,  "This is an extremely unlikely situation, but none the less, I wanted to make you aware..."   I think it made them more willing to sign the military clause as they knew it was an extreme circumstance that would require using it.

Make sure you ask about taxes & gratuity.
Are banquet tables & chairs included?
    Are cake/gift tables included?
    Ask about linens/napkins, china/flatware, & water goblets.
Are there additional fees for set-up/clean-up & breakdown?
Contract should state that prices will remain the same if there are management changes.
Contract should state that you will receive a full refund if the venue should go out of business.
    Good luck!
