Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Videographer?

Hey ya'll!
I've been thinking about hiring a videographer for our special day! I really just want our ceremony to be on video-- not so sure about our reception. Any opinions or advice on this particular topic? Should I hire one or not? By the way, we're having a beach ceremony which is why I think having a professional record it is the way to go... can't you just hear the wind now on a personal video recorder??! :0P

Considering my wedding is six months from today, I shoud really get this ball rolling!

Re: Videographer?

  • We hired a videographer just for the ceremony. They tried to talk us into doing the reception, but frankly it wasn't in our budget and the most important part for us was the vows. So I would do just what you're thinking of. You could always get a relative to videotape the toasts/speeches at the reception if you wanted.

  • I think we're just going to have someone at the wedding take the ceremony video.  This isn't really in our budget, and having a good photographer was more important to us.

We didn't have one and we don't regret it.  Our officiate gave us a copy of our ceremony on nice stationary and we have plenty of pictures for memories.  We just didn't see ourselves sitting down and watching a video of our ceremony.

  • Our videographer includes getting ready, ceremony, and reception time in his price. He places 5 cameras at the ceremony and gives a wireless mic to officiant, FI and on the reader's podium. The bride's vows are picked up in the FI's mic. He is making us 5 DVDs, included in price (more can be ordered if wanted). Everything but the ceremony and toasts will have the audio replaced by songs that we like. The video will also be devided into chapters, like a regular movie on DVD. So you can chose what chapters you want to watch. He is also including a short 10 minute highligh video, if you don't want to show the whole thing. FI and I like the idea of a video because it is something that we can watch on our aniversary, especially years down the road. We also like the idea of our future children being about to watch us get married and hear the vows we made to each other (which you can't do in pictures).

My advice would be to shop around and what vendors have available in your area. If you meet with one, ask to see a video from a wedding he has done at a beach. That way you can tell if his sound equipment works well for your ceremony. Also, veiwing a full wedding will give you a good idea of the quailty of their work. Anyone can piece together a "Best Of" slideshow and make it seem like they do really great stuff. HOpe this helps.
