Military Brides

Wow

I left work this morning, slept a little while and came back for another night shift and it seems I missed quite a bit! I've read through most of the posts and while I agree with the opinions, I hope tomorrow is a better day. Kendall, most of us have just had more life experiences and people are trying to give you advice. You should be grateful, nobody offered me that advice when I was 19 and it may have saved me from marrying XH.

When I first found this board I called FI to tell him. He wasn't as excited as I was of course, but I went on and on about how nice everyone here is and how great it was to finally talk to people who understood military issues and lingo. No matter what you do, there will always be someone to stir the pot. Today(and lately it seems) that is Kendall, tomorrow it may be someone else. I just hope nobody lets it change the *mood* of this place.

Everyone seems willing to go out of their way to help someone, and I think it's freaking fantastic! So, here's some ~awesome vibes~ for everyone for a better tomorrow, I hope everyone wakes up with a fresh heart and tangled hair. ;-)

You know, at that age, no one could tell me what was wrong or right... if you must learn the hard way, then so be it. I sure did learn things the hard way! ;) Anyway, this is by far my favorite board, everyone is really nice, and more importantly, REAL. OP, you seem to fit right into that description. Oh, and I am totally gonna steal your cute little ending there... waking up with a fresh heart and tangled hair is exactly what I plan to do tomorrow morning! Too adorable!

    How sweet.

This is my favorite board too. THe women here aren't obsessed with their weddings, which is nice because I am very much a laid back bride, and most of the woman on my month board are wedding 24/7...And some of the Navy support groups I have been a part of are all catty obsessive wifes.

I like that everyone has their own life...Makes me feel normal.

Oh yes and YES! One of my favorite thing about this board! Ha ha!
  • edited December 2011
Amanda I totally agree that was what i loved so much about this board. Since my wedding is so far off I feel out of place in the high paced crazy wedding stress since FI and I are more go with the flow - it is what we make it it happened/is happening. I also like that this group isn't all catty and full of groups and sides where people are down right vindictive and murderous.

Even on some of the nest and knot boards I've seen this my board your board nonsence and that didn't really seem present here. Not to mention how many of yall have hung around after weddings to help those of us coming around. it is a great resource since you all speak from your experiances in the military as well as from planning your weddings of so many different shapes and sizes. :)

    hah It's been a long day. :P

Anyone wanna say something positive that happened today? Let's pick it up :o)
  • edited December 2011
I will! So today after work I was shopping ALL EVENING... (warning, wedding related...) I was trying to get something done on my own for the wedding. I had a lot of things I needed to get, but store after store, nothing. Finally, last store I went to, I found the cardigan sweaters that I am giving my WP for part of their gifts. They're gray angora cardigans with diamond like buttons, on sale from 68 dollars each to 20... AND the best part? The last 3 were EXACTLY the sizes I needed... 1 sm and 2 med. I felt SO accomplished! I am now celebrating with a glass of wine, Cab, of course :)

Well, FI finally made it home yesterday(after going back home in May for work) and so far he's swept/mopped/vacuumed, cooked dinner for me before work(AND cleaned the kitchen), broke down boxes from moving 2 months ago, cleaned the garage, and mowed/edged the front yard. I'd say that's pretty stinkin positive. To me anyway lol. He's accomplished more in a day than I have in a month!

Other than that, I'm trying to make some ribbon roses right now to put in my bouquet. It's a bit more challenging than I thought but I'm here until 7am so I hope I figure it out.

That's awesome CAB! What a great gift too! :)

Shay you will have to share pictures when you finish them! I am intrigued :)

Today I got our wedding bands in the mail! Yay!
(backstory: H lost his last week.. Yup. 3 days after the wedding, he lost his ring />_< oi. lol. And he's DEVASTATED about it) so I ordered us new ones from this website that the tungstan rings are 300 bucks but you put in a special code and it makes them 0.00 :) just 25 bucks for shipping and they are BEAUTIFUL!

Also, got the "Thank you" cards done. Less than two weeks from the wedding and every single one is done and in the mail! woot!

I'll post pics in a couple of hours. I just finished the first one, but it took me 4 tries to figure out how to do it. Now I'll just have to work on the technique a little bit....this thing isn't lookin so purty!

CAB, have you guys not picked out wedding bands just yet? I can PM you the link and code :) You can also have them engraved but that's an extra 40. I would have done it but H's last ring wasn't tungstun so I'm not sure if he is going to like this one or not.. Didn't wanna waste money if he hates it :P
Not that it matters.. I'm sure he'll lose this one too haha!

Zim- I hate them too, but I wanted to get on it so that each could be personal and not just a "thanks for coming and for the gift". I started and just made it my goal to have them done before H gets home in a week.. success! :)
Zim no positive moment of your day today?

AMAZING!  And congrats on the thank you notes.  I hope to be on top of things like that!

I just got back from FI's house.  We had our engagement pictures taken tonight.  Our photographer posted a pic on facebook already and I am so excited to see more.

Also, I got my nails done tonight and I decided to go with the gel nail polish.  If you ladies ever get your nails done, I highly recommend this!  I work in the health profession and manicures never last.  I am loving this nail polish so far!

Well, yes... his anyway, not mine. I wasn't going to get an actual band, buttttt if I could get a free one, then why not! :) I will probably get him one too, though.  Being a dentist and all, I can see him either messing up the gold one I got him, or losing it. Ha ha! Back up plaannnnn

So true. I like having a simple matching band to H. It means a lot to mind, and it's great for when I don't want to wear my bling on hikes and things.

    Spiff share the picture!!!

I love gel nail polish... I do it to myself all the time (that's what she said... ok sorry LOL!) In fact, that will be one of the next topics on my blog, cause I just bought a gelac set on Amazon today :)

    FTL- Per your request :)

CAB-haha!  I will have to read that.  If I were a little better at french manicures I would totally buy some.  Is it expensive?  I didn't even know about it until a few weeks ago.  I'm addicted.  A french tip was only 22 bucks.  Which seems really cheap to me!

That looks great Spiff! Ummm, well yeah it was 60 for the set, but it comes with 6 colors, the setting stuff and the removing stuff. The UV light that I have for it was about 40 bucks... but I mean, in the long run, it does save money.

I just looked up the old post, went to the website and they offer a code for free engraving on the Romance design. Added a women's ring to the cart, plus engraving, and the total went down to 0. Added men's ring(which for some reason added the ring x2 and engraving x2) and re-entered the code-total still went down to 0. This crap is CRAZY! I don't want to call FI and wake him up, but I think this just tops off our conversation today about how we are SO going to become extreme couponers! Lol I think we watch too much TLC.

    Thanks!

Yeah, that is kind of pricey.  If you paint them enough though, it would definitely make sense.  I just don't ever get manicures because they always chip the next day.  I might want to paint them regularly now though.  I'll keep reading your blog for other great ideas :)

Shay- What's the code for the free engraving?
The code for the band, CAB is BRIDES at
    http://www.jvljewelry.com/category_s/21.htm

My original band is only a 2mm.. teeeny tiny and you can get a white gold one of those at a jewelers for like.. a hundred bucks (if you're okay with white gold). These are tungstun and you can check the sizes. This one I think is a 3mm and it looks great. Very thin and feminine.
A lot of people said don't do it because they come more "pewter" colored.. Heads up.. tungstun is more pewter colored.. Lol.. So there. :P
