Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Re: W

  • Maybe you could incorporate the two different themes in the cuisine.  You could Texas style BBQ dishes like brisket and dry rubbed, smoked meats at a carving station.  Round the Western portion out with sides like cole slaw and gourmet mac n' cheese. Then for the New Orleans side you could have chicken and andouille gumbo, BBQ shrimp, shrimp remoulade, and fried green tomatoes.

I'm having a really hard time thinking of a good way to mesh the themes in terms of decor; so I'd stick with neutral colors, neutral flowers, and if you want you could introduce both fleur de lis (for New Orleans) and star (for the Lone Star State) motifs into the little touches like escort cards, invitations, table numbers, etc.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm still want to try to figure out a way to mesh our themes. Maybe if I get a wedding consultant it would help.
  • Different....i definitely want to bring the new orleans charm in. So gumbo, stuffed bell peppers, alligator, and boudin are a must. But thanks Magnolias r my favorite flower. Great idea
  • you could have your bm and moh in southern belle dresses and gm in a western looking tux with cowboy hats....then for decoartions you can sit flowers up against a barn or trees or post etc. and hang some sort of western decoration above it.

if you cant do that see if you can find something small enough western to tie to a ribbion or in a bow around your flowers.

    just a few ideas :)

  • I too am having the southern belle/western theme and was having a hard time picturing it coming together. I then decided to picture the old west and it bacame a bit easier to blend together.I found bridesmaid dresses that are the southern belle style with the underskirts, So when removing them, the dress then looks more like the saloon style dress, with their cowboy boots and southern hairstyles the girls are having a blast coming up with new ideas for decor and so forth. flowers are going to be wine colored roses and magnolias(both favorites) and food is gonna consist of our choice of meet and then a big potluck as both families insist this is the way it is suppose to be, and since we have moved up the date by a year, and budget has gotten smaller, it works well for us. we are doing the ceremony in a gazebo and the reception in a barn/hall. so will be decorated like a saloon. We found a nice little town that was established about 1840's and has the old chapel ect.for the backdrop. The guys are going to wear the brocade vests with puffer ties, black jeans and of course the cowboy boots and hats.
Hope some of this can give you a few ideas as mine is just starting to come together now. Good luck and best wishes to you and yours.Laughing
