Manly Flower Boy

I realize that by tradition, if there are pedals to be thrown, it is done by a girl. But that won't be the case with me.

My FH is the oldest of seven and only one of them is a girl and she will be my bridesmaid since she's actually 19 years old. I don't know any little girls who are old enough that I'm close to who would be good candidates for a flower girl.

Anyway, my FH and I were sitting down on the couch at his parents house talking about whether or not his 9-year-old brother would be the ring bearer and I was okay with that. Then a flower girl was mentioned and we laughed and said his 7-year-old brother Paul should be our "flower girl"

Well, Paul overheard us and thought it was a done deal. We explained to him that it was typically a job for a little girl to do and that it involved throwing flower pedals and he said with all the confidence in the world, "I'll make it manly."

So my question for you brides out there is... How do I help him make this manly? I was thinking that maybe we could rig a nerf gun to shoot pedals or something. Any ideas?

Re: Manly Flower Boy

  • First of all, unless he's throwing bicycle parts, he's throwing petals, not pedals.

Next:  check with your venue about whether tosses are even allowed.  The church I work in doesn't allow flower petal tosses.  Real ones stain our carpet, and silks are a huge PITA for our custodian to clean up after your wedding.

Then:  if your venue does allow it,go for it.  My niece had a little guy toss the flowers at her wedding, because her little FG got too nervous.  So he took over. It was pretty cute.

I think having him shoot them out of a gun is just a terrible idea.  He can do exactly what is needed:  take a handful of flowers and throw them on the floor.  How is that gender specific?  Certainly the only difference I'd see is that he probably wouldn't want to carry a cute little basket.

But he could carry a different container:  they make Easter baskets that look like soccer balls/basketballs/baseballs, as an example.

Finally, you don't have to have an FG (which in this case I guess means Flower Guy) at all.  But since it sounds like Paul is good with it: just do it. Just please don't give a 7 year old a nerf gun and tell him to shoot it at your ceremony.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

I think I can honestly say this is the first time I've seen this question on the boards.  Trix, I was thinking the same thing - throwing pedals would hurt someone. ;-)  A wedding doesn't seem to be the place for a nerf gun.

  • man, you better make sure you spell things right around here! I saw something the other day with a flower boy. He had a cute wooden box with flowers in it and it said "flower chucker" and had a man flexing his muscles on it. I will try to find a pic.

  • I say no to nerf gun.  I have 1 FG and 2 RB, all in same family.  I love your title because my oldest RB just turned 4 and thinks his sister is FG he is the flower boy and his brother is the ring bearer and won't except he is ring bearer.  It is so funny and cute
