Need your opinion

K so our color is dark purple. The flowers are going to be a mix of magenta, orange, dark orange, and yellow orchids, with a few bead stems, a peacock feather, and a purple butterfly (click!). We're going for a purple theme with bits of hawaiian motif.

To spice it up, I have some design ideas to bring this color scheme together:
- each plate will have a stamped hawaiian post card on it with the request that each guest write us a note, advice, or a prayer and drop it in the mail the next day
- The cake will have a few matching orchids on it.
- The table cards are hole-punched with a hawaiian decor and will have a purple background.
- the table will have white cloths/settings, and the centerpieces are going to be the orchid flower arrangement in clear purple mason jars. The table name cards will be next to it. So the only color on the table will be the flowers, the table name cards, and the postcards.

My question... do you think using wine corks for the table card holders and names of our favorite wineries as table names will distract too much from the hawaiian motif? Is it possible to call it a wine-hawaiian themed wedding or is that too much? I wish I had pictures... I think I will take some tonight.

    Hmm..I honestly didn't even pick it out as weird as I read it, I was still waiting for what you were going to ask. So that makes me say there is nothing wrong with it!

    Everything sounds beautiful!

    Personally, I'm not a fan of the mixing with the wine.  But, if you love it, do it.  It's your wedding - do what you and your FI want.  It's about the two of you.  :-)

    cliff notes: adding in names of wineries to a hawaiian-purple theme - does this make it look like a confused theme? or no?  :)

    I don't think of wine when I think of Hawaii personally. How about naming your tables with Hawaiian words? Moana = Ocean, Niu = Coconut, Pulelehua = Butterfly, Palama = Palm Tree, etc. You could use coconuts or pineapples to display the cards or just a simple metal holder.

    ETA - I also like the way this couple named tables after the Hawaiian Islands. http://vacuumingthelawn.blogspot.com/2009/09/answers-in-you-somewhere.html

    I'm not seeing it.  The wine corks do seem out of place, but I don't think that it would look 'bad.'

    What is the basis for having the Hawaiin and/or wine touches?  I think that you need to stick with one or the other.

    Then again, a wedding doesn't need a theme.  I feel like things should be cohesive, but don't think that you need a theme to do so.

    Oh, and Jeana had a gorgeous purple wedding.

    Let me see if I can find her planning or married bios.

    Oooh Allusive I like that idea.... esp with the pineapple holder. Are pineapples in season in March? T'would look silly to use cans of pineapples if they weren't in season. :)

    Hawiian words I know:
    Ohana = family
    Ipo = Sweetheart
    No'hea = My beautiful
    Ono = delicious

    Yeah, I'm with some of the other posters... I think it is a bit confusing. I like the idea of Hawai'in table names (maybe moto can help?). You can find other table number holders!

    I have no idea when pineapples are in season. Maybe you could get them shipped to you from a fruit company or something?

    I looked up the Hawaiian words online...so you might think of some words that have meaning to both of you and then translate those.

    I think just sticking with the Hawaii theme would be better, but if you really love the wine idea go for it!  I love the flowers, they look really nice.

    The flowers need a bit of arranging work - butterfly and peacock placement will be fixed to look more fluid, and the flowers will be rounded out.

    thanks for the tips!
    I'm working on new table names right now... trying to find a set of 10 hawaiian words is harder than it looks. :) Moto - can you think of any others? (google would be easy for this search, but it's more fun to consult you all!)

    So far I have a list of romantic words:
    Honi - kiss
    Mau Loa - Forever
    Ipo - Sweetheart
    Nohea - Handsome
    Ohana - Family

    Non romantic words:
    Ono - delicious
    Moana - ocean
    Moi - coconut
    Pulelehua - butterfly
    Palama - palm tree
    Honu - turtle

    [QUOTE]I agree that it's a bit confusing. I'm personally not a huge fan of weddings that scream THEME!!!!!! anyway, but the way you're describing your Hawaiian aspects don't seem overbearing. I think that adding the wine stuff would make it seem cluttered and disorganized, though.  I like the idea of naming the tables after islands, or by Hawaiian words. Here are some place card holders that could go along with a Hawaiian theme: <a href="http://www.beau-coup.com/pineapple-place-card-holders.htm?utm_source=comparison&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=1655&utm_campaign=gbase&gdftrk=gdfV2692_a_7c814_a_7c6850_a_7c1655" rel="nofollow">http://www.beau-coup.com/pineapple-place-card-holders.htm?utm_source=comparison&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=1655&utm_campaign=gbase&gdftrk=gdfV2692_a_7c814_a_7c6850_a_7c1655</a> <a href="http://www.favorsandflowers.com/palm-tree-place-card-holder.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.favorsandflowers.com/palm-tree-place-card-holder.htm</a> Or something like this? <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/77278657/a-hawaiian-souvenir-vintage-hawaiian" rel="nofollow">http://www.etsy.com/listing/77278657/a-hawaiian-souvenir-vintage-hawaiian</a>
