Monday Monday...

Morning Ladies,

How was everyone's weekend? I was listening to Christmas music over the weekend and got into the spirit a little. So, a few holiday questions:

1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?

2. If so, does your tree have a theme?

3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?

4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Not yet, that's going to be my goal for today!

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Christmas? Haha, no particular theme just lots of colored lights and ornaments.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
I'd like to but our oven broke right before Thanksgiving and it's going to be a really big job to replace it since it's original to the house and built into the wall.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
The custodians at school, that's about it.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
The bulbs are all colorful. They are all green, blue, pink and purple. So that's kind of a theme right?

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
Not this year. Maybe for my grandma's house on Christmas Eve. I'm not a huge baker.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
I'm going to make small stockings for the people at work this year. Probably put a candycane in each or something.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
No. My mom is pulling it down from the attic today. It's about 4 ft. tall so I may help her carry down that or box of ornaments that will never make it on to the tree down. After I turned 16, my mom gave up on decorating.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
When FI and I get a house, I'd like the tree to have matching ornaments mixed in with some personal ones. His mom's is pink with all of their childhood ornaments and it's always cute.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
No. I leave that to the FMIL. Maybe next year when I have my mixer :)

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
I'll make cookies and bring them into work usually. My parents and I are working on buying the house next door to theirs so if all goes well, yes- I will be buying something for the neighbors. I'm buying my neighbors a blu ray player because they're so kind :)

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Nope, we're waiting for my brother to come home for a weekend so we can do it as a family.  BF is anti-trees at his place this year, so it'll just be one at my mom's.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Our trees are always color coordinated.  This year bro picked maroon and gold since he's graduating and those are his school's colors.  Our ornaments and wrapping paper will be maroon and gold.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
I already did!  Thanksgiving weekend we made 32 different kinds of cookies.  It sucked.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
We give cookies to our mail carrier and we take cookies to the local fire and police departments.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Had it up since Nov 21 he he

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Green, red and gold.  But after a few years I might change to blue and silver...

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
LOVE BAKING!  I made Pumpkin Walnut Oatmeal cookies Saturday.  Mom tried to start "Baking with Mama" with my sister, niece and me, but that didn't work out.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
No really, we do a holiday lunch at work and I'll bake/cook for that.  I thought about giving the guards at work some cookies.

    Morning Ladies,

How was everyone's weekend? I was listening to Christmas music over the weekend and got into the spirit a little. So, a few holiday questions:

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet? Yes, BF & I put the tree up yesterday... It's not my usual tree which is much taller and fuller but it'll have to do!

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme? Not really a theme... It's just Red, White & Silver... and I have a lot of Pooh & Tigger ornaments... It's actually very simple this year...

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking? I baked Cookie Brownies this weekend... Yes, Brownies with cookie dough baked into them! mmmm LOL

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc. I might give the guys in my parking garage a larger tip the week of Christmas... it depends on how much money I have left over...

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Not yet. We need to clean first.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
It just has a lot of decorations we've collected over the years. It's a family tree!

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
    Yes! I'm so excited

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc. I'll give out cards to some people.

Also, it's crazy snowing here today where I go to school. I commute and it was not like this at home! I can't believe they're keeping the university open. The city looks like it should be under lockdown. We got over 2 feet of snow overnight, and it's STILL snowing heavily. Almost white out activity.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Yep! It went up November 25. I was a bit excited about it so I put it up early. All that's left of my decorating is the lights on the window and hanging the stockings :)

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Loosely red and gold, very traditional. I have a collection of ornaments from throughout my childhood, so a theme is tough with all the different colours.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
Ha, not really. Baking isn't my thing, but I might decide I want to try anyway closer to Christmas. We'll see.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
Nope. I guess I'm a scrooge, but I really don't have anyone else to give to.

Bren - My mom was talking about how bad the snow was down there yesterday. I didn't realize it was going to be 2 feet though!

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?

Not yet. BF is away on a work trip and will be back on Saturday. The plan is to buy a tree on Sunday together and decorate.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?

When I was single my tree had a gingerbread theme with other bronze and copper coloured ornaments. Now that it is BF's tree as well, he feels my stuff is too designer and monochromatic for him. So, he is wanting to introduce more colour into the tree with reds and greens this year. Technically there is no theme, but there is a distincive style to our tree. Vintage and Modern Country style I'd say.

I asked this question because amongst my friends if you took a picture of each persons tree and blacked out the background other people would easily be able to guess whose tree was whose.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?

I started yesterday and made 11 dozen cookies. Not that impressive when the recipe was only supposed to make 6 dozen and I got 11 out of it. 6 dozen of those are going to this week's cookie exchange.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.

Not normally, if I had a hair appointment I might give her a bigger tip. I'm contemplating giving each of our neighbours a tin of cookies.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Trees down here have to be shipped from up north, so they're ridiculously expensive.  A scraggly Charlie Brown tree is $45 at least - so sadly we won't be having a tree this year!  I did buy a pointsettia

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
We made a gingerbread house - can that be my Christmas decorating theme?

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
We made gingerbread cookies and two gingerbread houses this weekend.  I baked sugar cookies with a friend yesterday, and I'd like to bake a bunch to give away as gifts.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
I'll probably bring some cookies in for my colleagues (it's a small office, so it would be fairly easy to bring a box and have it be for everyone).  And I'll probably give some cookies to our landlord.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Yep, it's been up since last week.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
All our holiday decor is blue and silver. Most of our tree is fish/sealife ornaments. We've got a marine biologist tree. :)

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
I baked cranberry white chocolate oatmeal cookies and sour cream sugar cookies this weekend, and I'm baking seven layer bars tonight. I like to give my coworkers Christmas cookies as my gifts to them.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
I give my boss/dissertation chair a gift every year. I also give my coworkers batches of homemade cookies every year.

FI's artsy shot of our tree.  Our 'theme' is red and gold.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
No, I am definitely not a baker. LOL

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
Probably my boss and the other lady I work with.  They normally get me gifts.  Plus my boss let me use his season tickets for the Cardinals game yesterday which are worth about $450 each game, so I should probably get him something anyways.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
YES! Just put it up this past Saturday.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
No theme really. All of the ornaments are red, silver and gold...but otherwise no.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
YES! I make toffee every year and i'm probably making peanut brittle for my grandpa this year. If i really get in the mood, i'll make my molasses gingerbread cookies too.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
I usually distribute baked goods to coworker (to keep from eating them all myself. BF and I also go for a couple's massage every month - the same 2 masseuses for years - so we usually give them gift cards as a holiday gift.

Hazel, it is ridiculous here. It's the first snow day I've ever had in post-secondary. They're closing the library even. We had to walk single-file down the sidewalks because they hadn't been properly cleared and there was a foot to a foot and a half of snow on either side of the "path". Plus, it's still snowing.

    I'm going hooooome! :)
But seriously, it kind of sucks because the school didn't announce anything until 11am. And I missed the 11:30am train back home. Sigh. So now I'm hoping the buses aren't cancelled so I can make it to the next train and get on my way.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?
Yep, it went up the day after Thanksgiving

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Just tiny ornaments...it's a 1 foot tree that my mom sent to me my 1st year in college - with my tiny townhouse, it's perfect.  Joe & I started a tradition last year (due to his laziness) of just putting a couple ornaments on each day until they're all up - it's kind of a fun/cute idea now.  When we get a bigger house someday, we'll get a bigger tree - I already have a ton of mis-matched ornaments in storage - just like the trees I grew up with.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
Just making chocolate-pumpkin muffins this weekend to thank all of our friends who are helping us move Joe out of his apartment and into my house

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
The only non-family/friends that I usually give gifts to are the kids in my Sunday School class - they're 2 & 3 years old.  The theme in our class is "baby sheep" (yes, I know they're lambs, but several years ago when I introduced our lamb puppet, the kids informed me that it was a baby sheep and they named him Michael), so I made them all "nap" pillows that have sheep all over them - I've collect other little goodies over the years (usually buy in bulk so I have them for years to come - didn't have to buy anything this year) that I'll add to their goodie bags as well

My weekend was pretty lame, I was snowed in and then not many people were around here so I spent some excessive amounts of time in front of a tv/computer screen.

    1. If you celebrate Christmas, have you put up your tree yet?

We have this incredibly tacky pink tree in our dorm room. We have decided to leave it up for the rest of the school year and decorate it for other holidays.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?

Currently it has christmas ornamets, feathers, and a couple airplane bottles stashed in it. We also have been doing the 12 beers of christmas so the bottles are lined under it.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?

Yes! Im making my grandma's fudge, peanut butter balls, chocolate covered cherry mice, and an apple pie for my BF.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else?
I am going to take three chocolate covered cherry mice to the bus driver I see everyday. He is the only one that I dont feel like Im going to die with when it snows. Also I am probably going to make football shaped brownies for BFs co-workers since they dont get a Christmas because of the bowl games.

Oh yeah. Making sugar cookies, spritz cookies, mint brownies, double chocolate peppermint cookies, maybe some cranberry biscotti, cranberry bars. I know I'm forgetting a few things.

    - Yes we did.

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
         -
It doesn't really have a theme but it has a lot of Disney stuff on it so I guess you could say it sort of has a Disney theme.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?

Yes I am. I come from a family of professional bakers so it is pretty much expected.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
        - I will most likely give one to my supervisor. When I lived in Ohio we would give one to our postman Greg but we do not know our postman out here. Also, I will be getting a gift for my Knottie Secret Santa!

YEP! It was up the day after Thanksgiving. I love Christmas <3

    2. If so, does your tree have a theme?
Not really. My mom bought me a bunch of starter ornaments last year, and so they are on there. I've always preferred trees that are decorated with ornaments that mean something to the people. Like how one of my ornaments is a beautiful blown glass lamb I got when I was a kid.

    3. Are you planning on doing any holiday baking?
Definitely. Every year I make about 150 frosted and decorated cookies (about 120 of which are sugar cookies and the rest are chocolate crinkles). It takes HOURS but I love it and give them to everyone I love.

    4. Aside from family and friends, do you give gifts to anyone else? For example, neighbours, postman, etc.
