    Haha, Audgie.

But fo' cereal. I can make jokes about a LOT of things and I'm not PC at ALL, but it's just not cool to joke about something like that. And I don't think she was joking.

Oh good, wasn't me.  I thought the one about hating pigeons was sad, but everyone can have their own opinions.  I don't like when FI will sometimes talk about how he wants to shoot the deer or birds or bunnies in my yard, but then again, he's a hunter and I am not. But that still really makes me upset when he says that stuff.  Hunting in general makes me sad though.

[QUOTE]Well. I have been watching it all day. And every. single. time. there was a commercial break, they would play that commercial. Sarah MacLaughlin (or w/e) sang at some awards show a few weeks ago, and all I could think of were sad puppies.

Yea I love all those property shows. FI always gives me a hard time about it but I know he is a closet House Hunters lover.

As for seagulls. I find them amusing. Mostly because when I was about 7 and my older sister was about 9 we went to Disney World. We were in the parking lot having lunch ( to save money my family would pack a cooler with lunch stuff so we didn't have to eat in the park) and my sister wanted to feed the seagulls. She took a piece of bread and broke it up to feed the few that were around us. The next thing we know she was being chased through the parking lot but a flock of seagulls while she ran with the bag of bread. It was so funny. She hates seagulls but they bring back that memorty and it make me laugh every time.

I used to get sad when I saw the commercials and wanted to pick up the phone to donate...but then I started seeing the commercials during every single commercial break on every single channel.  Then I wondered how much of my $18/month would really be going to help the animals and how much would go to their incessant advertising.

Instead of donating to the ASPCA, I went out and adopted a shelter animal. True, I'm only helping the one right now, but I'm so leary of charities and how they actually use the funds...

My problem with the ASPCA is that despite their name, many of their programs and shelters are only in New York. I would rather give to my local humane society.

Then again, right now I'm sponsoring this kitty, and she lives in New Jersey. So I'm a total hypocrite.

Awww leia, that kitty is so sweet. I agree with supporting local sheleters because if it was not for local sheters I would not have my puppy Marley.

I think helping out animals and animal shelters whether it be a local shelter or the ASPCA is a great thing. I know of the ASPCA because I adopted my cat Sheamus from them while I was still living in Ohio.

My husband always comments when they come on how often they are shown and yes i cry every single time. The only reason i don't donte to a large organization such as that is because i too wonder how much is going to help - so instead i try to support my local community at least when they have animal adoptions and pet food drives , etc. I know it's not much..but it's something.

I wasn't joking.  My neighborhood is overrun with stray cats - my neighbors feed them since they don't want the poor little darlings to starve, so they stick around.  They are all over my yard, pooping and peeing everywhere, they bring fleas into my grass so I have permanent scars from the bites all up and down my ankles, and I've even been attacked by two cats.  One jumped on me as I was trying to get into the house when it was hiding on my roof.  The other bit my foot when it was hiding under my washing machine (which is outside) and I had to have a rabies shot and have the wound debreded as cats have so much bacteria in their mouthes, which means a doctor scrubbed at my foot and removed skin around the wound to ensure a clean environment.  That hurt like hell!

We called the city to see what we could do about the cats.  We can put humane traps in our yard at $50 deposit each, and bring the cats into the Animal Rescue when we capture them.  If someone comes to claim them, they're released.  Otherwise, they're usually put down since there are SO MANY damned cats down here.

So BF drives really fast every time he sees one of those cats.  If it scares them off, great.  He hasn't hit any of them, and fewer come to our yard now since they're afraid of him (he also throws rocks at them when he sees them in our yard).  Our neighbor has a big dog that EATS the cats, and the other cats have stopped going into that yard.  So I fail to see how chasing them with a car is worse than bringing them in to Animal Rescue for a certain death.  We haven't even hurt any of them yet.

So sorry you decided to be offended by the fact that I'm running off rodents from my yard.  Because while someone's pet is a whole different story, the cats in our neighborhood are rodents.  Since it's not cool to even joke about chasing animals (who have actually physically done me harm) with our car, what did people with disabilities do to you to earn your joke?

Cate, at first I was a little disturbed by your comment, too (the part about your BF running over them if he could), so I can see GPB's point. But now that you've elaborated, I totally get it. Holy crap. I'm so sorry you've had to go through all that!

BF and I rented a live trap at one point to catch a litter of kittens that were living under our front stairs outside. (My little guy was one of them!) It wasn't $50, though, that's a little expensive! We put a little tuna in as bait, and it worked like a charm.

Usually feral cats are very shy (mine won't let me get within 10 feet of her, and I've been feeding her for a year and a half). Generally the best solution is a TNR program (trap, neuter, release). The cats will live out their lives in the neighborhood, but they won't breed, so eventually the colony will start to die out.

Just removing the cats doesn't usually help. Another colony will move in to fill the void.

Here is the HSUS' list of feral cat groups. Maybe there's one in your area that can help.

My parents are these people.  It started when a ferrel cat had kittens in my parents carport, they parents called the Humane Society and they wanted to charge $150 per cat to come pick them up (or have them dropped at a shelter).  Both of my parents were unemployed at the time and couldn't afford the $750 to drop off cats that weren't theirs.  It was the middle of summer so they put out water for them, the momma cat managed to find enough to eat on her own, but still stuck around.  Then she had more kittens...and so on and so on.  They didn't intend it to start that way, but now they have like 7 ferrel cats living in their front yard (of the many litters she's had, not all of them survived/stayed).  Luckily they aren't violent though otherwise yes, my dad would probably 'get rid of them' so to speak.

Leia, we looked into that.  There are just SO MANY cats down here that there is absolutely no room in the no-kill shelters for more strays, and the resources for spaying and neutering and rabies shots is drastically overtaxed.  I'm not a cruel person, we looked into humane ways of handling this.  I've also tried every old wives tale about keeping cats out of our yard (including sprinkling dry deer urine around the yard - yep! It smelled terrible).  None of it works.  It's a really annoying problem, and BF also has scars all over his legs.  I used to really like showing my legs (since I think they're one of my better physical attributes) but now they're all scarred so I tend to wear long pants.

    I hate those cats.
