Missing out

I have been out for a week with a visit to my BF and a long but awesome camping trip!

It was wonderful to see BF after 2.5 months of not seeing him, and most of that time not even having skype becase his computer broke.  I also cannot wait to move to LA and he just started an amazing job (complete with a free trip to Germany, I am so jealous)!  Life is pretty good for me right now (totally ignoring the cluster**** that my advisor got me into with my thesis).

What have I missed? Engagements, weddings, babies, trolls, recipes?  I hope you all were well over the week! I missed NEY.

tmacwin got engaged!  Yay! A couple of people came back from hiatus and we've had a couple of people come in and cause a ruckus but it was just a misunderstanding.  What's wrong with your thesis?  Can't wait for you to come out to LA.  Yay for you!

    So, the usual then :)

Congrats to tmacwin on getting engaged! We've been having fairly regular engagements lately!!!

My thesis is due to the committee tomorrow but my advisor has had it for a week and a half and has yet to give it back to me.  I have to present it on the 1st and still need to make up a poster for it, which is all dependent upon me getting my thesis back.  I figure it'll resolve itself over the week though.

LA is drawing me in with its fashion district! I'll actually be living in Redondo Beach, not sure yet if it's part of LA or just near it.  Fresh fish and cheap fabric, here I come!

welcome back! A camping trip sounds like fun! Was it like tent camping? Cabin camping? RV camping?

FI and I went overnight tent camping a couple summers back, and we haven't gone back yet. I work at a camp all summer, so the last thing I want to do is go camping on vacation :) But, I got us these nifty hot pink popup tents for free, so we're going to go camping again soon!

Tent camping, complete with bathing in a freshwater mountain stream and cooking elk on the campfire.  We mainly went to collect insects, but made the trip into a laid back hang out trip over spring break.  There weren't as many insects out as we had hoped, hence all the hanging out and laid back-ness.  We are super nerds so we documented it and made kind of an insect-collecting nature show.  When I get some vid I'll be sure to post it, and you guys can all suffer through my high-pitched voice that does not record well!

How in the world did you get free hot pink tents?! That sounds awesome, and you must use them at least once!!!

Insect collecting! Sounds like fun. As I've been cleaning out my basement, I found my 6th grade science fair (on termites) and I found all the preserved termites that I displayed. LOL.

The 3 day breast cancer walk gives people these pink tents during the walk. Afterwards they donate them to Girl Scouts. We have about 100 of them at our camp. We are constantly giving them away to troops, so I snagged two fo them at the end of the season because they wouldn't all fit in the garage and we didn't have storage bags for them.

Oh that's cool about the tents!

Also cool that you did a science fair project on termites! Complete with preserved organisms! Termites have recently been placed into the order Blattodae, the cockroaches!!

I visited Redondo Beach once. It was a great neighborhood and my friends that lived there were always going to street fairs or going to the beach. When are you moving?

Redondo Beach is part of LA county. We refer to that area as the South Bay.  Hermosa Beach is near by and where all the younger crowd lives and parties. Next to that is Manhattan Beach and its a small city that is pretty exclusive.  Well toned moms running up and down the beach with their kids in their strollers.  I swear no one works there.  I used to live in Redondo and worked in Manhattan Beach.  I like the Redondo Harbor, so much good seafood and the fireworks for the 4th are awesome.

My BF just got a job in Manhattan beach! He told me that I didn't have to work and could be like all the rich wives there that wear yoga pants all day while they shop! HA! He can be silly sometimes.

South Bay sounds exciting!!  BF took me to a harbor in Redondo beach where we had some fresh seafood! It was delicious and the harbor seems awesome! The sidewalks were covered in designs of sea mammals, my eyes were pretty much glued to the floor as we walked around!

Tiger, I move around July 31! I can't wait! It's awesome to hear good things about Redondo beach!

lol!  amysbot what does your BF do again?  If you're in Manhattan Beach you must try the bakery by the name of Beckers, they have this sandwich called the The Natural it is so good and the sugar cookies are excellent, as well as the cupcakes!  Also in Redondo is a small joint called Phammies they have excellent breakfast burritos!
