I was house sitting my parents house for the weekend by myself and they have a security guard. I had left the kitchen door leading to the outside slightly open cause one of the puppies needed to go outside to use the bathroom. Next thing i'm sitting in the tv room with one of the other puppies and she perked her ears up, which signalled to me she was hearing something. The door to the tv room was also slightly open, and the security guard was just STANDING on the other side, for God knows how long.  I freaked out and asked him what was he doing inside the house! He claimed he came in to ask if he could WATCH TV! I was like 'NO!!! You're here to secure the house and grounds, how do you do that inside the house watching tv!? Needless to say, we called the security company and told them NOT to bring that guy back again. It was so weird and eerie.

Masie that is SO creepy!  Also your parents have a security guard?  Is that normal in Botswana or are you just filthy rich?

Super creepy. Its more common to have electric fences and walls-almost all houses have those for security purposes. Guards are less common but not uncommon, necessarily.

So I googled Gaborone b/c I was curious about where you lived Masie and I saw it was the headquarters for DeBeers.  What do you think of the diamond industry living so close to it?  I would love to hear your opinion.  Is it as bad as I fear?

Botswana diamonds are conflict free diamonds so we don't have the turmoil other diamond producing African countries tend to have. DeBeers and Botswana who are in 49/51 partnership/ownership (respectively) of all diamonds mined, produced and sold, signed the Kimberly pact which is a treaty or law to ensure all diamonds manufactured are conflict free. Botswana is a democratic country which never had any civil wars, wars or fighting period in all its years of independence in 1960 (independence was a peaceful handover rom British colonial rule). So in short, there is nothing to fear, no fighting or military control or coups or any of that stuff. Botswana is also the most peaceful, with the least amount of crime, countries in the world and definitely in Africa (insert:walls, electric fences and security guards, lol).Sorry for the Social studies/Geography lesson, people. However, sadly, diamonds aren't any cheaper here despite it being our number one export :-(

No thank you for the history lesson, I was very curious! And that's suprising about the diamonds being just as expensive.  You'd think there would be a local discount. Like in the Virgin Islands rum is really cheap.  Well that's too bad.
