Pave' E-Ring Question

I'm not sure where to post this question, but I need advice. My BF and I have been looking at e-rings and he wants to purchase a pave' setting. However, I am a little hesitant because those little diamonds don't seem too secure. I have a friend who has had problems with her diamonds falling out (obviously I can't solely base my opinion on one person). So if you are engaged and have a pave' setting, do you have trouble with the little diamonds falling out? TIA.

I loved pave settings because they had very little metal and more 'sparkle' to them.  However, I had the same reservations.I ended up falling in love with a petite prong setting.  It is more secure than pave but still has very little metal around the diamonds.  PIB

One of my friends also has the pave setting, and she had a diamond fall out (it was a very expensive ring!) less than 6 months after she got it.  I also liked the look, but skipped pave for that exact reason.  You could try looking for a channel setting with a thin band, maybe?  I've had no problems with my channel setting in the year I've worn the ring.

My e-ring has a pave setting and also has diamonds around the band as well. Right after FI proposed he noticed that one of the pave set diamonds was missing, so I took it back to the jeweler and they replaced it for me (this was about 4 months ago). About 10 days ago I noticed that one of the diamonds on the band was missing and was quite upset that it was the second lost diamond. I took it back to the jeweler and this time they sent it back to the designer to fix and check all of the other diamonds to make sure they are secure. After I get it back from the designer, if I lose any more diamonds I am going to have either the jeweler or the designer re-set my center diamond in a new setting. I am not going to keep on doing this every few months.

Thank you for supporting my worries with pave settings. :-) I have told him about the issues some people have had with them. So hopefully he'll take that into consideration. I also mentioned a channel setting may be a better investment.I would love a solitaire, but he thinks it's too plain.

I have no comment on the pave setting myself but it kind of bothers me that he isn't taking into consideration what you want. I can understand that he wants to pick out the ring himself but why is he so dead set on a pave setting when it's not what you want?I would stress to him a little more about getting a solitaire if that's what you want - you can always dress it up with the wedding band. After all you are going to be the one wearing the thing.

I can't complain too much- he is buying the diamond that I absolutely love. So in order to compromise, he can choose the setting. On the other hand, I really don't want him to waste money on a setting that so many people have trouble with.

Ok well that's fair enough as long as you have talked about it and you will be happy with it. Definitely bring up what the ladies in this thread have said about their pave settings because it doesn't sound like something I would want to invest in myself
