In your experience...

What is the cheapest way to book a hotel room last minute? Any particular websites, etc? BF and I are going to a concert in Toronto on Saturday, and made the last minute decision to stay over night. But we're trying to keep costs as low as possible, because, well, why wouldn't we?
He pretty much had me at "hello".

I pretty much book most hotels online.  I have had really good luck with hotwire and priceline.

kayak.com searches all those discount sites for you..it's pretty helpful because you can see them all at once.

I have never been disappointed by hotwire.  As long as you know which neighborhood you want and star level, it's not disappointing.  just booked last week for a convention hotel...saved 35% off the already-low convention rate!

Go online to like travelocity and find the cheapest hotel.  Then, look up the hotel's name online and find the phone number so you can book it through them directly.  Its usually like $10 cheaper that way.

I would do all of the above. I worked as a Clerk in a hotel for a little while. Sometimes we were cheaper than online places, sometimes we weren't. I would call some hotels first, ask their rates and then check online or vise versa. Sometimes you can negotiate with the hotels if the rate is X at another hotel or on a website. They get more money if you book with them directly rather than on a website.

The cheapest way I've ever gotten a hotel room is to show up in the middle of the night and offer to pay less since clearly no one else wanted the room at 2 in the morning....but clearly that doesn't work everywhere.  Hotels.com seems to be the best website I've used.

www.kayak.com It compares all of the prices from various websites - hotel websites and places like travelocity/hotwire/etc.  You don't book through that website; it re-directes you to the site offering the lowest fares
