the working life..

My boss asked me if I would defer law school for six months in order to stay working on a project that I helped start.  I said yes. He spoke to his boss who said that my work shouldn't hold me back from law school and  they agreed to find someone else.  Isn't it my right to decide what is best for my future? An extra six months of working and saving money in Norway for both my bf and I, would make school much easier to afford.

Yes of course.  Maybe the big boss just wanted to give you the option to do both.  Tell them you want to stay on full time if the offer is still on the table.

Talk to your boss.  I'd tell them that you appreciate their concern for your career path, but that after giving it a lot of thought, you've decided that staying an extra six months would be more beneficial for you.

I've supervised a lot of people over the years, and it was always my preference to see if someone was even interested in a project before I took the idea to my boss.  My boss was always VERY busy and I didn't want to waste his time talking about an idea and hammering out details only to have the person I had in mind for the job turn it down.  Maybe your supervisor wanted to see if you'd even do it before he talked to his boss, and the boss said no.That being said, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your supervisor or even ask to speak with his boss and tell him you're willing to stay and really want to see this project finished.  It can't hurt and would probably show them that you're a team player who can follow through on your commitments.

Well my boss and bosses boss love me, and would never "let me go" to get someone new. I honestly think that they think it is best for my career to move on as I am not learning new skills at my current job as I've moved to the top of where I can get very fast and there is no more room to move. (And If I am going back to school, I need to do it soon).  So I appreciate the concern, but still it's a conversation they need to have with me.

Agree with PP -- talk to your boss and explain that you'd like the opportunity to earn some more money to fund your education. What do you have to lose by bringing it up?
