I have always been more of a “stalker” than a poster on these boards, but after the events of the past weekend, I feel the need to vent, and this arena seemed as good as any.
I found my “perfect” dress last June at a small privately owned Bridal Store. However, I did NOT like the $500 price tag associated with my dress, but I drove an hour every other weekend to try it on, trying to convince myself that I would be able to find the $500 in my budget somewhere. In July my dress went on sale for $99 and I snatched it up.
Being a rather small breasted woman (okay, let’s be honest, my bras show up so I don’t have to) the bosom in the dress was way too large. The rest of the dress actually fit me like it was made for me, except for the Dolly Parton sized bosom. The sheer illusion sleeves would not stay up, either, because they were attempting to hold up the large breast portion of the dress. I knew that once the bosom was fixed, the sleeves would then stay up as they were intended.
About a month ago I took my dress back to the bridal shop for a fitting and alterations. She told me it would take about a week. Apparently fixing the oversized bosom was more difficult than she anticipated, and it actually took almost a month.
I went back this past Saturday to pick up my dress. When I put it on, I almost cried. She had the straps over ½” off, and never fixed the netting. When I said something to her about the straps being uneven, she blamed me and my small chest size, that if I had a “normal sized" chest it wouldn’t be a problem. She told me to come back next weekend and she would have it fixed. I reminded her she’d already had my dress for a month, and this was the last free weekend I had to come back to her shop. She threw a fit, but ultimately took my dress back to fix it while I was there.
The only problem is that she didn’t fix it. Sure, she moved the strap slightly, but they’re still off (by about ¼”). The netting that covers the bosoms was never reduced when the underside of the dress was fixed, so it’s still the same ginormous size as before. The straps are still uneven. When I called her on it again, she accused me of being a bridezilla, that I just needed to stop looking at and focusing on the dress, and that it was “just fine.” At that point, I was done dealing with her. I am the least bridezilla person you will ever meet, and will typically go out of my way to avoid conflict. I took my dress and just went home.
I tried it on again yesterday to see if I was just being hyper-critical, but I’m not. The straps are uneven, the netting is too large, and I honestly can’t look at the dress – my PERFECT dress – without crying. The wedding is in 37 days and I feel like she has ruined my wedding dress.
I’m not sure if another seamstress would be able to fix the dress…or if I should just attempt to find another dress. NOT the stress I need at this point!!
Thanks for letting me vent, and any thoughts?
