Anyone around?

The board has been so slow this weekend (slower than usual on a weekend). How was everyone's weekend?

  • My weekend was pretty good. My last class was on Thursday and I went out with a bunch of people from my classes. I was DD though so I don't think I had as much fun as everyone else. I'm a little sad that most of the friends I made this semester are graduating and moving away but I'm sure we will stay in touch.

My roommate moved out on Saturday (woo hoo!) and I've started moving into the bigger room which is awesome! Other than that I haven't had too much going on this weekend. Oh and I found my kindle (yay!)

So tell me about this ceramic quail...is there a story behind it?

<div>Aw, yeah, Im always DD, but Im not a heavy drinker, so its not too much of a loss. Sounds like fun either way! And Im so happy your roommate moved out! You sounded so miserable living with her! Are you having another roommate move in?</div><div>
</div><div>Theres not a huge story, behind the quail, i just LOVE quail and BF knows it! We went into this little store that is kind of a hippy store with lots of statues and books on buddhism and wind chimes and such, and i saw the quail and got really excited. I couldnt afford it though, so BF said he was gonna buy a CD and hed meet me out front. He came out and gave me a box and it was the quail! He told me the store guy said it was a really nice piece, all hand made and hand painted!</div><div>
</div><div>And yay for kindle! Ive gotta get one of the color ones, theyre so cool!</div>

  • I'm have a new roommate moving in in August. We met up for coffee about a month ago and she seems like a much better fit than my last roommate.

It was really nice of your BF to buy you a quail :)

Do you have an e-reader? I love my kindle, I was so sad when it was lost. I had to put a lot of my reading on hold but that was probably for the best since it gave me more time to do school work. I'm planning on reading Divergent next, a friend of mine suggested it (and I think someone on here did too) so I'm excited that I found it now that I have time to spend reading for fun :)

  • Thats good, roommates are one of those things that are tough!

I have an old kindle from when they first came out, but its broken. The wifi doesnt work, so i cant buy any more books haha! Ive never herd of Divergent! whats it about? What genre is it?

  • I have an old kindle too. The color ones look cool but I'm good with my black and white :)

I'm not 100% sure what Divergent is about but I've heard if you like Hunger Games you will like Divergent so I'm pretty sure that it's the same genre as HG.

  • Not gonna lie, I havent read the Hunger Games yet  :X
Everyone loves it, but I feel like if I go out and buy them after the movie comes out, Ill be one of those people who goes out and buys the book after the movie comes out!  XD

  • I only read HG after seeing a preview for the movie. You should read them, they were really good :)

  • Ill definitely pic them up! What other books do you suggest? I need to get back into reading myself, but Im terrible at discovering really good books

  • I have the same problem! I'm horrible at picking out books, I usually need suggestions from others. I've been re-reading books a lot lately. The books that the ABC Family show Pretty Little Liars is based off are decent. They are definitely aimed at a younger audience but I enjoyed them. I like Kathy Reich's books (Bones is based off of them, partly).

I feel like I need to come up with a list of books to read this summer. I need to get back into reading more.

Ive never read either of those, Ill have to check them out. Ive been rereading books too, because I cant find anything as good as what I have! Corelli's Mandolin is one of my favorite books of all time, and I dont think I can ever read it enough! By now, though, I can quote almost the whole book!  X)

  • I've never head of that one - what is it about?

Inkheart was one of my favorite books but I haven't read it in awhile. I refused to see the obviously half-assed movie they made out of it, it didn't look even a little bit decent. I also really enjoyed the Book Thief. My friend also suggested Under the Never Sky so I might check that one out soon too.

  • I read Inkheart! It was good, but it didnt resonate with me like some other fantasy novels.
Corelli's Mandolin is about an island in Greece during world war II, and the doctor on the island and his daughter. Shes 18, and gets betrothed to a fisherman, who then goes off to fight the Italians using guerilla warfare. Then, an italian captain is stationed in their house with them, and she slowly starts to fall in love with him. It sounds like a silly romance novel but its some of the most amazing and detailed writing ive ever read

  • Awesome I might have to check that out.

Yeah, I undestand how Inkheart can kind of be hit or miss. I loved it although the sequels fell a little short for me.

I really like to read books that are a part of series. Those are usually my favorites :) The only series I started and never finished was A Series of Unfortunate Events (another one they butchered in the movie version) but only because it took SO long for him to finish the series and I've never managed to get back to it.

  • Those were another series that I never got a chance to read! I never read the Inkheart sequals, I remember feeling like they werent really necessary. I felt like Inkheart was pretty complete in itself.
I realize now that I dont read many series! Although, one of my other favorite series is the Redwall series. Again, Its all about mice and otters and hares and rats and stuff, but MAN, Brian Jaques is an amazing author! Have you ever read those?

I LOVED the Redwall series! It was epic stuff! I haven't picked up one of those books in forever!

ETA: I didn't really think Inkheart needed sequels either but they were interesting. They find a way to go into the book and find her mother.

  • I always read them once in a while, and it always takes me back! I loved Mattemeo, Redwall, Taggerung, Legend of Luke, all of them I guess! His writing started to dip after the book Triss, though, I definitely didnt like that one...

  • It's been so long since I read them I can't even remember the names of all the books. I wonder if they are still at my parents house...my mom insists on getting rid of my books occasionally and it infuriates me. Apparently she doesn't understand that I NEED all of them even if I don't read them all all the time.

  • Im the same way! My mom would always say "Go to the library, dont keep buying books!"
But how will I read it again in a month, mom??
    Photobucket Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • I hate the library. I am not a library person, I'm a bookstore person. I LOVE bookstores, any bookstores - big chains like Barnes and Noble, used bookstores, or just small local book stores - I love them all! But I do not enjoy libraries.

  • I love bookstores too! I practically lived in the Borders when i was about 13. I would get dropped off there at 10 in the morning, and read all day until 9 at night and Id get picked up. I would even eat lunch in the little cafe so i could keep reading!

Im not a huge fan of libraries too, I can never find anything haha!
That, and they dont always have the newest books

  • Bookstores are the best! The only problem with bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders is that when they moved into malls they became filled with mall people who do not understand how to not annoy the crap out of me in the bookstore.

The library in my hometown would always say I hadn't returned books when I knew I had. I always kept the yellow piece of paper they gave you when you checked the books out so I could cross each one off as I returned them and they always fined me for not returning books. It was ridiculous.

  • Thats ridiculous that they would keep harassing you about books you already turned in! Reminds me of that one episode of King of the Hill where Hank gets accused of not returning a dirty movie to the rental store and he goes all CSI to prove he never rented it  XD

Yeah, mall people are annoying. Theyre never quiet, and always step all over you, and I always feel claustrophobic...

I love that you just pulled out a King of the Hill reference! That show is severely under-rated.

  • Hahaha, thanks!
It seriously is an amazing show! Its such subtle humor, and every episode is completely unique! Simpsons and Family Guy are good, but their plots are so overdone, I get tired of watching those sometimes, you know what I mean?
    Photobucket Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • Yup. I really enjoy the older seasons of The Simpsons but they've been on so long everything starts to feel like a repeat. Have you seen "The Simpsons Did It" episode of South Park? It is hilarious!

  • edited May 2012
Yeah, I saw it a long time ago! Hahaha, Its pretty sad how accurate South Park can be!

The knot is acting wiggy, and Im getting sleepy. It was nice talking to you! Im gonna head to bed  :)
    Night!
