Music for Ceremony

Hi ladies.  I need some help. Approx how long should the music be that we select for when guests are arriving/being seated and when they leave?   We are having a trolley bring guests to the church so people will arrive probably over a span of a 1/2 hour.

Also any suggestions on songs would be great.  We have a few ideas and are leaning towards a mix of modern songs and somewhat traditional - like Hymne and A Walk in the Forest, but also Bless the Broken Road for the wedding party and Glasgow Love theme from Love Actually for me to walk down the aisle.  And I am stuck on the Recessional.  We both love Bittersweet Symphony but it just doesn't sound right without the strings.

On a side note, we are using the church's pianist. He is pretty new and I am not sure how many weddings he has done so I wasn't sure how much advice he could give me. I should also say he is in college, I think this is a part time job for him, but I am actually excited he is so young because he didn't cringe when I teased him he may need to rework the Foo Fighters for me to walk down to.   He asked me to send him the songs we want but I just want to be sure I send him what would be appropriate for the length of time he should play.  I will ask him abot the time too, but wanted some good advice from you ladies too on what is the norm, in case he doesn't know.

Sorry to be so wordy!

Re: Music for Ceremony

  • I'm pretty sure our pianist started playing about half an hour before the ceremony was to start. She played selections from the "new" Pride and Prejudice soundtrack, which I love. The Glasgow Love theme is beautiful!
