I could never...

Be a bridal gown consultant.

Today as we were shopping for bridesmaid dresses we saw gals trying on bridal gowns, and sometimes they decided on a dress and I'm screaming inside my head "NOOOOO! That is such an awful dress on you! It makes your hip/butt/shoulders/whatever body part look wide/small/some adjective, go back to the dress you had on before, now it was perfect!!!." Of course the sales person is fawning over the girls saying they look perfect in every dress.

That was one part that I hated about shopping for gowns. My thought as the sales ladies were jamming compliments down my throat "Don't tell me everything looks perfect. I know my body, and when I shop for regular clothes, every style doesn't look perfect, so what makes bridal gowns so magical that every style looks perfect on my body?"

If they think they look good, that's all that matters.

I agree, it is up to the bride and what they think looks good and feels good. But, I feel like the consultants were just fake with all the compliments and looking for a sale. The one girl, it came down to a discontinued gown that was reduced or ordering a different dress new. The consultant talked her into the more expensive gown, even though the cheaper one looked better on her body.

Of course they're going to tell you the more expensive one looks better, they're sales people who probably work on commission.  I'd listen more to my friends and family on what looked good on me anyway.

See, I think being a good salesperson involves only a minimal amount of BS. You'll gain the customer's trust if you're a bit more honest and you look to meet their individual needs. I'm sure a bridal consultant could be successful that way, too. I know it's different with bridal, but still.

I also think there are lots of people who don't know how to pick attire based on what looks best on their bodies, and thus that isn't so much of a concern as "oh hey, I like the design/color of this dress!" Maybe some consultants don't know, either. And/or maybe they know that customers are going to go for what they like anyway, no matter what the consultant says.

Just musing. Did I make any sense? I'm EUI and sleepy!

Marley, It totally made sense. I'm tired too... The first time I typed that I wrote "it totally made since" and I kept looking at it thinking something looks wrong with that sentence. LOL.

LOL, Ember. You should have a vodka and Fresca, too, like me. I keep trying to come up with a good name for this drink. Any ideas? I don't mean to threadjack, sorry...

It's actually called a frodka if you add sherbet ice cream to it! Mmmmm... Ice cream and alcohol!

Or a Panty Remover if you also add lemon and gin.  Can't say that I've needed aid in the removal of panties though.

Does anybody remember Tenley from Jake's season of The Bachelor?  Because Marley totally reminds me of her sometimes.

She was a dancer, too, come to think of it...  Interesting...

<div>This. I trust a salesperson so much more if I try something on and they say 'I think we can find something better' or 'the other one was more flattering to your shape.' I don't take it as a personal affront, I think we all know that some styles flatter us more than others. </div><div>
</div><div>PS I totally was going to suggest frodka for your drink, Marley, but apparently it's already taken. What about calling it a Vesca? or a Vosca? I won't be KUI anytime soon... I gave up alcohol for lent (what was I thinking??)</div>

Haha, you guys are funny. Tiger, I like your drink name ideas!

Panty Remover. Sigh. My feminist tendencies are at now odds with my sense of humor, which thinks that's pretty funny.

I've never watched much Bachelor. I do hope you guys saying I remind you of a girl on the show is a compliment. Wink

I wouldn't say I'm happy and cheerful and nice all the time! I get pissy and negative plenty. I do try to adhere to the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" rule, though, especially here on the boards. Mostly, the reason for that is that it's so easy for someone on the internet who doesn't know me well to get offended when I mean no offense.

Anyway, too bad Frodka is taken. That's my favorite so far. Hmm. I'm going to call it a Lindsay Special for now. Smile

I was one of 10 bridesmaids in "thispersonIknow's" wedding. And we were all wearing the exact same dress. And looking back at the photos it really was not as versatile as the bride and saleperson said...

One bridesmaid was 6'1, another 4'11. My mom and younger sister were also bridesmaids with me (so a 16 year old and a 43 year old, and I was about 23...) I could go on, but let me just say it was a very diverse group of ladies all wearing one pale pink dress in different sizes.

It was exactly what the bride wanted, and that is what really matters, right? I think the salesperson got that. But I hope that someone has the sense to point out when I pick the "wrong" thing for my bridal party... because I too, will be asking for their honest input.

Hey, at least none of us has to endure planning a wedding in the 80s.

My roommate had "Sex on the Drier" for her birthday. lol. It was pretty funny when she texted her mom drunk and all it said was "Mom! I've having sex on the drier right now!  It's great!" lol.

I hear you.  I was watching SYTTD a few days ago and there was a woman on there who INSISTED on a mermaid dress.  She was apple shaped, carried all of her weight in her belly.  And it just did NOT look good on her.  And she refused to get an A-line dress even though EVERYONE told her it was more flattering.

I guess every woman has the right to look like a stuffed sausage on her wedding day, if that's what she chooses.
