AW: I found my dress

So, for those of you who don't remember, I had a little dress drama before shopping.  Here's the link:

Well, I found my dress at DB at it has been bought and paid for by my mom.  She did come through.  Since I stayed well under the $800 budget, she agreed to pay for the headpiece, alterations, and underwear up to a certain amount.

I didn't think that I would end up finding my dress at DB.  However, the one I went to was great.  I loved the sales associate and the salon was actually really pretty.  I'm not sure why they have such a bad reputation.

Here's a link to the dress.  I don't have a picture of me on it.  I do have to say as a plus sized woman, it was slimming and made me feel amazing.

And Jeana was right.  The dress I thought I would love looked terrible on me.  The dresses look totally different in person.  And you don't know how it will look until it is on your body.

That dress is beautiful.  The only thing that drives me crazy about DB is they send me a minimum of 2 emails a day (entered to win at the bridal show).  I knew I personally didn't want to buy my dress there simply because I knew I wanted something very modest with sleeves and even though I know they can make the sleeves, I wanted a dress that was made that way - where I bought my dress, the entire store was modest with sleeves, so I had my pick.  I think it's pretty much like any other place you shop - one store might have a couple bad apples and try to spoil it for everyone else.

My SIL got her dress at DB 8 years ago and she actually ended up doing some modeling at a show for them, but just one show - she had a lot of fun with it.

Beautiful dress! Any ideas how you are going to wear your hair? Up or down?

Ah, there's a post somewhere on here that I posted when I bought it.... I'm too lazy to find the post though LOL  I'll be sure to AW it and everything else after the wedding though.

    Thanks, everyone.

KD, I'm definitely glad that she kept her word.  There isn't too much room in the budget anymore, so buying my own dress would have been a hardship.  I don't begrudge people who buy expensive dresses, but it just wasn't in the cards for me.  I'm perfectly happy with DB.  Although the accessories are pricey.  They wanted $100 for a fascinator.  No thanks, I'll go to etsy.

Angie, I'm so used to random wedding related emails, that I probably won't notice an increase.  DB has had my info for a while and I haven't received any emails.  Strange right?

Taft, I know exactly what you mean.  I found lots of dresses that were pretty, but they just didn't feel like me look my best.

Desert, going through the post that I linked, I reread your  advice.  Thanks again for your sound advice.

jilly, I'll be wearing my hair up.  I'm not sure of the exact style yet.

I absolutely LOVE that style of dress.  I really like the folded/rouching look, I think that's one of those finishes that will look flatering on everyone.  I'm glad you found a great dress!

Pretty dress. I only want to DB once to look at a few BM's dresses. The ones around me aren't very nice, so its nice to hear that you had a good experience. To top it off, the majority of bridal shops around me have dresses that are priced in the same range as DB and have much more personal experience, a lot more space and nicer dresses, so for me personally it just made sense to go to different shops. I think it all depends on area.

    I really like your dress!

I think BD has some good designs, lots of colors, and are just about everywhere... but I had a bad experience with them too.

When I was going to be a BM in my sister's wedding (the one that was canceled) I went to pick up my dress and they tried to tell me I had already picked it up! Which I hadn't. I was also picking up my OTHER sister's dress and they made me sign for it. So I asked them to find out who signed for my dress and they refused. THEN they said they wouldn't refund me and only wanted to give me store credit. I had to contact corporate to get a refund (I called them every day for a week until someone would call me back). They made it right in the end so I would consider using them again, but if the wedding hadn't been called off I wouldn't have had a dress.

Short version: Make sure you actually get your dress :)

I understand what you're saying.  I was scared at first because of a DB I went to when I was a bride's maid.  The shop was really ugly.  And the service was not so great.<div>
</div><div>I guess the Manhattan one is pretty so they can compete with the other shops. I was also lucky that it was empty so my associate was only helping me.  </div><div>
</div><div>It's easier to find deals when you are around the sample size.  Not only am I plus sized, but I have to order my dress extra long because I'm tall lol.</div>
