Not Engaged Yet

Intro Thread - Alyaki (Keep forgetting to do this)

Whitney's reminded me to do this finally; usually I just forget and don't think about it, since I generally just lurk.

Screen Name: alyaki (used to be nmego, changed since it to avoid using any part of my actual name)
Age: 25
Significant Other's Age: 24
What You Do: performance/automation engineer/programmer
What SO Does: retail, culinary student
State of Relationship: dating (NEY)
How Long You've Been Together: 2 years, but don't ask me exact amount of time - neither I nor BF can actually remember exactly when we started dating
How You Met: through friends
Wedding Date (if you're engaged/married): N/A for now :)
Real Babies: N/A
Fur Babies: N/A
Loves: computer programming books! also, my clarinet/sax/violen, symphony/orchestra concerts, reading, playing video games, programming, d&d, crafting (generally embossing stuff, thought I am also learning to sew), spending time with BF
Hates: work (currently), people going under the speed limit, rose bushes (not the flowers themselves, just the bushes)
Pet Peeves: people driving under the speed limit, friends who ask BF constantly why we aren't engaged yet, people doing things outside at our house without bringing it up before they do it (this has to do with people who do not pay anything on the house)
Hobbies/Activities: refer to my "Loves" section
Favorite Thing About Your SO: sense of humor and his eyes
Least Favorite Thing About Your SO: tends to let others do whatever they want on the outside of our house (without bringing it up to me first) and then is surprised when I'm not happy with it
Describe Your Personality: laid back and shy; I generally like to keep to myself (especially when around new people), but I'm a lot more involved once I get to know some people in a group
Snark Level (1 [low snark] - 10 [high snark]):  3-4?  I like sarcasm and use it a decent amount, but I tend to have a really dry humor, so most people don't seem to detect it
I've Been On TK Since: April 2011
How You Came to Be On TK: I was looking up information on how to write a toast for my best friends' wedding (was MOH)
How I like my potatoes: I'll take them just about any way, but mashed or cubed and mixed with butter is my favorite
Favorite book/author:  I don't really have a singal favorite author; kristen britian, illona andrews, pragmatic bookshelf (for tech books), anne bishop, etc.
Tell Us Something Interesting About Yourself: I've been attempting a master's in computer science, but have been so miserable since that I might quit it

I also like wine - lots.  Hate cheese.  I like HP, but only to an extent - JK pissed me off around the time the last book came out with her one statement since it was unnecessary.

Anything else anybody wants to know?

    Hi alyaki!

Nice to meet you alyaki! My IRL name is Megan, guessing yours is too?

Do you like to travel? What was the best vacation you've ever been on? If money and time were no option, where would you just love to jet off to?

I'm sorry, but this made me laugh. I thought of a series of events... like contractors putting up random siding, graffiti artists creating crazy works of art and people peeing in the bushes.

My BF is a programmer, he's getting his bachelors in computer science right now.

Do you play any PC games?

I read that as sex and I was so confused as to why you listed it with all of the musical things. Reading fail on my part!

I love HP so I'm sad JK made you mad and that made you like the books less :( Just out of curiosity what statement made you angry?

Actually, IRL name is Natalie, but the other portion is a part of my last name.  I like to travel when I have some money and time off, but I spend most time at home.

Best vacation: week in the Williamsburg, VA area :) That place is great.  And if money and time off weren't a problem, probably either Japan, Italy, England, or Ireland - though I couldn't say off the top of my head.

And Lunar, I think I may have posted once or twice under that name.. the one time I can actually remember is when I was asking bside (I think that's who - don't quote me, bad memory) about the secret shopping thing in a thread about it a while back.

wink, I play a few, though I play more console than anything.  The MMO I play is FFXI, and I'm playing Ar Tonelico (which looks really perverted when you're reading the box, but the gameplay turned out to be really good, which is the only reason I bought it) and Star Ocean.

Beth, I believe the comment was something about Dumbledore being gay.  I was mostly annoyed because it wasn't something that really mattered to the book universe - came across to me like she just wanted more attention on the books, which I didn't like over much.  I could have cared less about it if it hadn't been for that (bunch of friends are not straight, so the gay comment in and of itself didn't bother me, just timeframe - I'm a bit socially awkward, so I apologize if this statement comes across oddly).

Hi Alyaki! Rowling came out with the info about Dumbledore's sexuality because Steve Kloves (the screenwriter for the movies) was trying to include a small romantic subplot for Dumbledore. Just FYI.

Elle you amaze me with your vast amount of HP knowledge! I remember her making that statement and I thought it was kind of odd because it didn't really seem to have to do with anything in the books but I just kind of ignored it.

It just annoyed me, but it does help to know why.  Thanks for the info, Elle!

<div>I guess I can see why you would be annoyed by it, in a sense of "if it wasn't important enough to put it in the books, why are you mentioning it now?"</div><div>
</div><div>For my part, though, I love any extra tidbits of information I can get about the series, so no detail is unwelcome.  Plus, Dumbledore's homosexuality was hinted at pretty strongly in the series, so it wasn't totally out of left field for me.</div>

    Hi

I went to williamsburg, Va with my bf last year on vacation.  It was actually a lot of fun.
do you have a favorite movie?

    Anniversary

  • edited December 2011
Hmm.. I don't know that I really have a favorite movie, but I really enjoyed "Italian Job" (the more recent one - I think there's also an older version).  And I like watching Jeff Dunham DVDs (really funny ventriloquist).
