i follow a blog (carrotsncake.com) and she uses metal straws.  just in case you were interested in finding metal straws and not using plastic ones.

Hey, we share a love of colored bendy straws!  I can't drink anything without a straw.

I rinse them and reuse them several times before throwing them away, though.  That makes it ok.
