My 21st bday I remember a AMF, a big blue concoction that screamed you're getting tossed, and a couple of complementary bday sake shots.  I spent my bday night puking on Sunset Blvd.  Never again, after that came two more occasions that resulted in blacking out for a few seconds and falling, I took it as a cue from the being above that I wasn't meant for drinking.

Oh God AMFs? On your 21st. That was a heck of a choice. (just so anyone curious knows, AMF stands for Adios Motherf*cker. It's MEANT to get you to black out).

A friend of mine got into a drinking contest with those a few weeks ago. It was a bad, bad night. She says the last thing she remembered was drinking one at 11pm, then at 7am she woke up in the hospital getting an MRI, puking blood, and had lost both her favorite sweater and her grandmother's engagement ring.

Scary drink, that one. ...especially if you decide to make a drinking contest out of it!

Sooo...avoid that too. Plus they just taste nasty. Blech.

I just looked up the recipe because I got curious.  Looks like a more tropical version of a long island?  Yikes.  No, thank you.

GIN!!! It's so easy to drink in Sprite or Coke with lime. Not too fruity or too sweet, but also not too alcohol-y.

Ahh! I love gin, but I don't think of it so much as a noob drink.  It took me a couple years to get a taste for it.

    Happy birthday!

One of my personal favs that was given to me on my 21st birthday is pineapple juice and coconut rum. It is delicious if you like pineapple and coconut.

    Happy birthday HOM!

I don't really drink anymore, but if I do, it's really light stuff.

Lemon drop, midori sour, mai tai, pina colada, or a peach bellini.

I can't stand the taste of alcohol, so I loves me a peach bellini.

Yikes, Zipis!  That sounds like a terrible night your friend had.

As a general rule, drinking contests are bad news.  I once was challenged to a tequila contest by a Japanese-Peruvian sushi chef I used to work with.  I was already a few drinks in when he challenged me, and that was just such a terrible night.  I actually picked up my cell phone to call my roommate to come help me when she was just on the other side of the wall because I couldn't summon the energy to shout.

Oh, I forgot to mention (and maybe it's already been said but sick brain doesn't remember) don't mix your alcohols. That's when I end up getting sick to my stomach. Pick one and stick to it.

And for some reason I now have the song "Whisky and Gin" in my head.

Really? I WISH I had been introduced to it sooner. I love the way it tastes so much more than any other liquor.

Happy birthday.  Do not attempt to do 21 shots lol.  Try a Malibu Bay Breeze.

[QUOTE]Something else to avoid: Long Island Iced Teas. Especially more than one. I don't care how delicious they may seem, or if you think you're OK. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 D: ...unless you like being that drunk chick sitting on the sidewalk propped against a building who can't stop explaining what's going on to every passerby and getting free oranges and chocolate bars from other drunk people. ...again. I love long islands :)  A local bar here has them everynight for $3 (they pour them very strong and they are in very tall glasses).  2 of those babies and I'm good for the night.  I made the mistake on my college graduation of asking the bartender if he'd top mine off for me...I meant the whole mix, but he topped it off with just alcohol.....

I actually didn't get drunk on my 21st birthday.  I went out for my 'power hour' (going out at midnight, aka, the second you turn 21) and told everyone that I was not doing shots and I wasn't going to get trashed.  I got a good buzz, had fun and didn't get hungover.  It was nice actually.

These days I'm more of a beer drinker when we go out.  Bud Light is my 'cheap' choice that I know they'll have everywhere, but I generally like a little more stout of a beer.  The Raj IPA at our local brewery is my favorite aside from their seasonal Pumpkin Porter (amazing).  But IF I drink liquor, it's either a long island or anything with vodka (vodka sprite with a splash of cran is my fav).  I don't really like any other liquor, especially tequilla (bad experience)

I've scrolled the answers, but my first response is carbs.  Not fruity drinks, but carbs for dinner.
Make sure you eat enough to absorb the alcohol.  I recommend using a mixer that you drink often.
If you drink diet coke, get a drink mixed with that.  If you drink diet normally and go out and drink half a gallon of cranberry juice the sugar will make you sick.

Drink a glass of water between shots or drinks.  If you are concerned with looking like a party popper, ask for a lime garnish and tell everyone it's a vodka tonic.

Sprite and vodka with a lime!  Thats what I usually get when I go out.  Like someone else said, do the birthday cake shot!  My brother got me one for my 21st (September) and it really does have a chocolate after taste.  Very strange!

And I dont suggest anything with redbull...

*ahem* Vodka lime is easy and yummy.  Daquri's and margaritas are always delicious. Mojitos are nom nom nommm.  And a good beer is key.

    Good luck.
