My first TMI post

So, I am super congested these past few days - a lovely little bug that I picked up just in time for school to start. At any rate, I am actually so congested that when I blow my nose, I feel air bubbles come out of my tear duct.

I imagine that the tear ducts and the sinuses are somehow connected, so this could be a normal thing. Regardless, I am both intrigued and slightly terrified. I'm not too worried, but boyfriend seemed a bit freaked out when I told him about it.

Am I insane, or has this happened to anyone else? If not, then just feel free to share your own congestion-related TMI experiences here ;-)

(edited for double use of the word "actually")

Your tear ducts are connected to your sinuses. That's why people tend to get all stuffy when they cry.  I think you may be blowing your nose a little too enthusiastically.  Have you tried an OTC decongestant?

May I highly recommend the NeilMed Sinus Rinse?  I've never had something work quite as well that's completely homeopathic.  You can use it as much as you want!  The relief is intense.

That sounds familiar, I may have had something similar, but I would have been much younger.  I kind of hate my sinuses.  Feel better!  If it hurts going up your eyes, or if this goes on longer than a week or so, make an appointment with an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor) who will be able to make sure everything's working as it should.

I've had that happen on occasion, esp when I'm super congested.  It is a very weird feeling.  A side note on the sinus/eye connection - the dark circles under your eyes - caused by sinus problems.  I have pretty dark circles much of the time.

Try a warm/wet washcloth (actually, as hot as you can stand it, it'll cool down pretty quick anyway) and lay it over your lower forehead/eyes - it'll help break some of that yuckiness up.  I've been taking the generic form of Zyrtec for almost a year now and I'm pretty pleased with it.  I've had pretty horrible allergies most of my life and this year hasn't been nearly as bad since I've been taking Zyrtec (I found the best deal at Sam's Club - 300 for around $17).

A couple other things I've found that tend to give a bit of relief, esp in the evening before I'm headed to bed...try those listerine (or other brand, haven't looked for them in a while) strips - the ones that just dissolve on your tongue - they're pretty potent and will open you up pretty quick.  Also, about 1/2 hour before I'm ready to go to bed, I'll suck on a cough drop (needs to be the mentho kind, sorry if you can't stand that flavor, the others just don't have the same results).  This will also help keep your throat soothed and combat the post-nasal drip that is sure to follow.

    Hope you're feeling better soon!

Haha, you caught me! I'm blowing my nose like it's my job, quite possibly with too much force.

I should perhaps get some drugs to help the situation, I've been using mostly natural remedies. Considering I have to drag myself into school tomorrow, it may be time to forget the hippy-dippy stuff ;-)

Angie, I willl definitely try the wash cloth thing tonight as well. Thanks for the tip!

Cate, I LOOOVE the neti pot, I use it several times a week. Without a doubt, it's the best thing, ever.

My mom swears by nasal lavage. I've never tried it because it kind of freaks me out but I might because I just woke up (first day of school for teachers today!) and I'm all congested. I refuse to be sick all fall especially with the wedding just around the corner!

I 2nd this. It is great!

My aunt told me the other day to take q-tips and roll them from where your bone starts (don't know scientific name) to almost the corner of your eye. It's supposed to get the fluid out of your tearducts.
