West coast

I hope everyone on the west coast/Hawaii are doing okay. I keep hearing reports about what is going on with the earthquake/tsunami. Thoughts and prayers to everyone there!

I honestly hope and think Hawaii and the West Coast will be fine.  Its Japan that i worry about the most.  I woke up to the news that my home is under the tsunami watch.  I live less a quarter mile from the beach.  But somehow I'm not worried about that.  Its devastating to see all the damage and fatalities in Japan.  Haiti, New Zealand, South America and now Japan.  These earthquakes are getting more frequent.  Now it truly makes me wonder if California is next.

I really hope it's all OK as well!

There has been a lot of major earthquakes lately. They say it's a chain reaction type thing though. Once one happens, everything shifts a bit making the chance of more happening much higher. I'm ready for it to stop though, and I don't live in an area prone to earth quakes by any stretch of the imagination, so I can imagine how those of you living near fault lines might be feeling.

True... After I wrote that message, I completely realized that I left out Japan, the root of where everything has started.

As a friend put on her Facebook status... If a tree falls in the forest and didn't fall in America, than did that tree fall? Goes to show how egocentric, I can be. Everything I've seen on TV has been focused on the US, not Japan.

One very good reason I read BBC News - it's much more international in focus.

I thank goodness for Facebook, though - I was immediately able to see all my Japanese friends checking in to let everyone know they're okay.  So far, no bad news.  I've got about a half dozen friends living in Tokyo, and a few Marines that we know in Okinawa.

Sending my prayers out to Japan, the west coast and anyone with friends and families in those areas. Considering that we've got six degrees of separation between just about anyone in the world, chances are you know someone who has been affected by this natural disaster. I'm really hoping that the moon orbit isn't the cause, as we could expect more wacky things to occur in the next few days (the moon will be at its closest point to earth in 18 years on March 19. Clicky

This! I'm sure those of us on the west coast be fine... my thingy say's I'm located in Montana... but I'm really in San Diego and I'm not sure why theknot keeps putting me in Montana. Anyways, I also woke up to hearing we're under a tsunami watch... kinda scary, but after watching the news and everything, I'm not too worried about it. Though my bf works down by the water

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected!

Motolyn, I also wonder if California is next. I have to say, seeing the videos and hearing about it definitely makes me scared since just about a year ago I was in a 7.2 earthquake and it was terrifying! I know that 7.2 is nothing compared to this one, but still... earthquakes are scary!

Moto- it makes me wonder when a big one will hit SoCal as well. I live in the valley so I think I would be ok if a tsunami hit because I would be protected by the mountains but I could be wrong.

CNN just showed a map with the aftershock vibes on it, and said that the US is going to be fine.  Hawaii is going to get some, but California should be perfectly fine, except for a few 8 foot waves.  They're not too worried.

The international meteorologist did say that the brunt of the aftershock is headed straight towards Central and South America.

I'm kind of surprised how non-US-centric CNN is being today.  They were very focused on Japan when I was watching, and about to start talking with civil engineers about how to "build with disasters in mind".

T,P& good vibes for everyone today though <3
