Thoughts?! (semi-long)

I am a FT student and will be done with my degree in Dec. I am working right now at a Hospital for the IT department. The Boss knows my mom, who also works here, and has seen me come in and do projects and recruited me for his own. I am currently working under him doing what-ever comes up as a project.

Well.. Someone from the department put in their notice and they have a position opening up. They are currently seeing if they can maybe hold off until Dec. so they can hire me. Just talked to some people about it and they think that I should start now and have the Hospital reimburse my tuition. I would be working 40 hours a week so I would have to finish school online or at night.

Plus Side:
Steady job
Better Pay
Be able to afford new car sooner
Be able to move in with BF sooner
Better job then current ones (Have two currently)

Down Side:
Sitting at a desk all day (which is something Ive always said I'd NEVER do)
Re-arranging my whole scheduele for school
Quiting my other job which I love (Although its been going downhill fast)

What are your thoughts?

I would go for it. It's difficult to get a job when/where you like right now. I don't thinky our downside are strong enough - IMO.

No one wants to sit at a desk all day - but pretty much everyone has to do it for some period of time. If this is your first job out of school I would consider yourself lucky you can get a job period.

Rearranging your school schedule and quitting your current job don't seem like a big deal to me either.

    Good luck.

Tuition reimbursement is a HUGE plus in my eyes. Go for it.

I think getting school paid for and having a steady job (especially in this economy, where many of my friends are still struggling to find a job after 2-3 years) far outweighs the inconveniences of bending school around work.

I say go for it!  We all end up sitting in a cubicle for a bit, but it's not forever.  And it's always easier to find a job when you already have a job.  Take it, work your way through school debt-free, and then once you have your degree and have completed whatever you owe them to pay for school, start looking for something that excites you.

Agree with Jeana ... Huge plus.  Also I think that the pros out way the cons by a lot.  Sitting at a desk all day is not really a big deal, especially if its a job straight out of school

Thanks for all the advice! I was thinking the same thing, I just wanted to get opinions. I am also very nervous about it, as with any new step in life. Its something I have to think about a little bit more, but I am leaning towards taking it.

    PPs have it covered.

    However, I have to say...

    the word is ADVICE.

    How can I advise you?
    I can give you advice.

It's definitely nerve-wracking when you have to re-arrange all your plans.  But I think in this case it's worth it - good luck!

Technically, you spelled the word correctly but used it incorrectly.  The advise/advice thing has become a pet peeve of mine on here.

What about effect/affect?  That one always drives me nuts!  Oh, using the wrong variation of your/you're or their/they're.

All those teachers on here, make sure your kids know these BASIC spelling issues!

Ditto Mutley, it drives me nuts too. Edit title for my sanity please? Edit:: Thanks!

Also, remember, sometimes opportunities don't always come when we want them to, so take this one and run with it! And sadly, we are not all born into awesome jobs, sometimes you have to start at the bottom to get to the top.

If it were me, I think I'd probably go for it.  But it's you...so that is a decision that YOU need to make and feel comfortable with.  GOOD LUCK!

I'm with the PP's... I say go for it.  Pro's outweigh the con's.

PPs are right. Yes, it will suck doing full time work and school for awhile, but if you can arrange it so you still graduate in December, that's only 6 months. I know it varies from person to person, but I don't think a desk job is so bad. Just make sure you get up and walk around every so often.

I agree with everyone else.  It sounds like a great oppertunity.  I know that changing your classes around will be a pain at first, but it will be worth it!  Good luck!
