Fundraising Ideas

Okay ladies, I need some help with fundraising ideas. I cheer for a semi-pro cheerleading team, and we need to raise money for our team. The football team doesn't have much money, and does most of their fundraising at the doors or the game. So far I know that we are going to Tag and also try to do a car wash.

We though about doing a bake-sale but we don't want to step on the toes of the people raising money for the football team. We also did candy bars last year, but it didn't work out too well because they are expensive to begin with.

So any other ideas? I have tried to google ideas, but most apply to high schools, and we don't have that kind of fan base. Thanks in advance!

My youth group has had a fundraising dinner some years. They sell tickets for the dinner and provide a big meal.

Just about every year though, we do a youth auction for services like babysitting, window washing, snow shovelling, raking leaves, wrapping Christmas gifts, etc. Each person gets to choose what they'll do (sometimes it's just baking or cooking) and then people bid on them.

    OHHH!!

I'll try to get you the contact for this:

My little cousin plays on a traveling softball team.  For a fundraiser right before Christmas, they used a company that sells gift cards.

I bought a $25 gift card to Kohl's and $25 to Best Western.  I get the full $25 to spend there, and the company gives a percentage to the team.
    The percentages varied.

Kohl's gave like 6% to the team.
    Wal-Mart gave like 1%
Some smaller stores gave in the upwards of 8-10% of the sales back to the team.

It was right before Christmas, so it was good timing, she got the cards back in time to give them as gifts.  I'm usually hesitant to buy fundraising stuff. (Who wants to pay $10 for cookie dough?)  But this made me open my wallet instantly.

My alum sorority group wraps presents at the local Barnes and Noble store around Christmas time. All we make are tips, but by the end of the day, we come away with a LOT of money. And the store wins, because they don't have to pay an employee to wrap presents that day (We decided on Barnes and Noble because books are easy to wrap).

We've also sold wrapping paper around the holidays. This is the company we sell through. It is nice because everything is online and the stuff gets sent to the person who bought it. http://www.sallyfoster.com/sf/

PS- I'm jealous your on a semi-pro cheerleading squad.  I wanted to continue cheering after high school, but I counted on an offer from a small private college and the scholarship wasn't enough for me to afford tuition.

Now I'm old and fat, and only tumble when I'm drunk.  I want to coach a youth squad, though.

You should do a search to see if there are any near you. I found my team a few years ago on Myspace. I saw them in the local parade and searched for them after. I am now going on my 4th year and I am one of two captains. It is so much fun, we have a blast. Also search craigslist. I put an add on their for our team, and recruited about 6 girls.

    Have a charity concert!

My radio station every year does 15 hours of live local music to raise money because we get zero funding from the college. The bands don't get paid because it's free publicity for them. We invite people to come listen to the bands and they pay like $5 for admission. We hold a raffle, sell treats made by the deejays and auction off autographed CD's and t-shirts. One year we managed to have Les Paul autograph a guitar (shortly before he died) and it was auctioned off for $1500!

Do the members of your team have any favorite local bands that would be willing to play, or know of any? Ask your friends to ask their friends. Call up some college radio stations and ask to talk to their promotions or local music director (if they have one). Ask if they know of any local bands who'd be willing to play and get contact their information. Advertise the concert on campuses. It's a lot of work, but it has the possibility of raising major bucks.

I like the gift wrap idea, even though it's march. Stores just don't provide that like they used to.

I also like anything having to do with services. You mentioned carwashes, which would be great here where I am with the pollen about to start. What about mowing lawns or helping with gardening? You could set up shop at local nurseries? Or selling water outside of pro baseball fields since MLB is about to start? I always buy water for a $1 before I go into the stadium (if I forgot to bring one).

I wish I had better fundraising ideas. Good luck.

Woohoo! I feel like I'm always fundraising.

We do restaraunt fundraisers a lot. I see you live near me, so you could probably organize one in  your area.

We've done them at Unos, Fuddruckers, The Common Man, Texas Roadhouse, Wendys, and another well-known chain in the area that I can't remember...

You call the restaurant and organize the fundraiser.
You hand out "tickets" that say "Go eat at this place at this time and present your ticket when you pay for the meal". As long as they give the ticket when they pay, you get anywhere from %15-20 of the bill.

It's a pretty easy fundraiser because you don't have to do much, and people love going out to eat!

My girl scout troop used to do a spaghetti dinner.  It was super cheap to run, since the church we did it through let us use their space for free, and we charged like $10 per person.  So, if you figure each person eats roughly $2 of spaghetti/sauce, you're making $8 per person.  Or, you can have the girls donate ingredients, and then your squad makes just profits :-)

Thanks everyone. I love the spaghetti dinner and topless car wash idea! I was also thinking we could do an event at one of the games where you sell golf-balls during the game, and then at the end of the game everyone gets to throw the ball on the field and try to get it in a circle or box or something. The person who gets it in or the closest wins a prise. We usually sell pizza and the team sells shirts and stuff so we could also give away a shirt and pizza, and see if they could be donated by the other sponsors.
