Elle-- And anyone else who wishes to talk about Harry Potter

You need to read these four books by Jonathan Bellairs

1) The House with a Clock in it's Walls
2) The Figure in the Shadows
3) The Letter, the Ring and the Witch
4) The Ghost in the Mirror

Once you are done, we need to discuss if they inspired Harry Potter. I realized yesterday that they were what I thought of as I read Harry Potter.

I've actually read the first one on the list, and I didn't love it.

Then again, though, that was many years ago (well before I fell in love with/discovered Harry).

Perhaps it's worth a second look?

Go re read them. You should read all four. And it's incredible if you look at HP through the prism of those books.

<div>Me too!! It's going to take me forever though because I'm picky about what books I actually purchase. I usually just get my books from the library. I purchase ones that I foresee myself wanting to re-read.</div>

I saw this picture in one of those home/living magazines once of this living room that's back wall was just one huge floor-to-ceiling bookshelf.  The books on the shelf were grouped by jacket color, not title or author.  It was so pretty.  That's my dream.

Do they take long to read?  I have so many books to read right now! I don't know where to start.

You know I have always wanted a Library just like that too!!!  BF tells me someday we will have one because he loves to read too :D

No, they are quick reads. Maybe 200 pages each? It's been a long long time since I've read them.

Will it make me happy to have read both series? Or will this series make me look at HP differently in a less than positive way?

SO's mother is a librarian at a pretty big public school, so when she notices all the kids wanting to read a certain book all of a sudden, she knows its for one of two reasons, it either has something dirty in it, or its good. So she reads it and if its the latter she buys it for me in hardback. (i love her!) I've gotten at least 2 different book series from her on every gift giving holiday since we've been together, most I haven't had time to read since school takes up all my life, but every single one I've read has been a "re-reader". :)

How could the Fulcrum be UNhappy?

You will be happy, it's just (in my opinion) everyone says HP is so original, but these clearly have many many similarities. Like LOTR and the Eargon series.
