Apparently Canada has more potato chip varieties/flavours than the US does, or atleast it used to. Who would have thought that is where Canada would choose to differentiate itself? Anyway, It got me thinking about potato chips and doritos because we were looking for doritos at the time. So, here are some questions.

1. What do you view as normal potato chip flavours in your area?

We've gotten new varities lately and I have to look at their website because there are too many. So based on their website and it is shocking to me how many there are. there are varieties like tzaziki, szechawn, general tao, tandoori, mediteranean and sea salt, buffalo wings and blue cheese, bbq babyback ribs, tomato and smoked paprika, rosemary, cheddar & jalapeno, spicy piri piri, pizza, hot dog ballpark, chili & lime, scicilian lemon chicken, parmesan garlic & olive oil, black pepper & sea salt, roasted garlic & onion olive oil, feta olive oil & oregano. That's the simple list I found...I'm sure there are more.

4. What flavours of doritos are in your area?

This week it was nacho, zesty nacho, sweet chili heat, cool ranch, a hot one i can't remember, jalapeno cheddar, onion ring & ketchup and buffalo wings & ranch

5. What is your favourite dorito flavour?

Recently, Jalapeno Poppers but normally plain ol'nacho cheese

6. Is anyone else annoyed that Frito Lay has discontinued the Jalapeno Popper flavour, at least in Canada?

Definitely, jalapeno & cheddar is no substitute! It doesn't help that we buy chips or doritos maybe once every month or two and the varities change so quickly here that one we fall in love with is quickly gone.

2. What is your favourite flavour? Regular Lays.  I'm super boring
3. What unique flavours of potato chips do you come across in your area?  Trader Joes has weird ones...but I don't think most of them are "potato chips" and I don't shop there often enough to remember them
4. What flavours of doritos are in your area?  Cheese and Cooler Ranch?  I think that's it
5. What is your favourite dorito flavour?  Cheese
6. Is anyone else annoyed that Frito Lay has discontinued the Jalapeno Popper flavour, at least in Canada? Nope, but I've never tried them.  But I don't like spicy stuff, so I think they might not be up my alley.  I do like SERIOUSLY want to go to Canada on a trip though cause you guys make it sound so awesome.  I'm jealous.

Also, out of curiousity I went to the Lays Canada website and I missed - Cheddar & Sour Cream, Smokey Bacon, Gravy and Roast Chicken. I had no idea some of those existed, I wonder what the gravy one tastes like. Although the idea of cold gravy makes me nauseous.

Hmm. Can't think of any others right now. I don't buy chips very often at all.

Gah. I'm no help here. I'm not even sure what they were in NYC, and I lived there for 6 years.

Don't they have a pizza one? That's pretty good.

Marley - I was never into jalapenos until I started dating FI. My tastes have had to change to accomodate all the jalapenos, lime and cilantro. Maybe it is a California thing and I'm just messed up?

Honey mustard, or Harvest Ranch in the kettle cooked Lays, omg I found these for like 1 month straight and now the grocery store guy said no one really bought them so they don't sell them in my area any more. So sad

Just want to preface this by saying that potato chips of any kind is my kryptonite. I can eat a whole giant bag of them by myself. If you have the Lay's wavy chips, you might as well never see them again cus I'll eat them all.

"original", sour cream and onion, salt and vinegar, BBQ

2. What is your favourite flavour?
Salt and vinegar or seasalt and black pepper. I love salt.

3. What unique flavours of potato chips do you come across in your area?
Pringles makes a sour dill pickle flavor that is off the charts. I love pickles and I swear it tastes just as good as eating a real pickle. Pringles also makes a loaded baked potato flavor which is okay. Oh, and Herr's makes an Old Bay Seasoning flavor which is just a little too strong for me.

4. What flavours of doritos are in your area?
Hmmm, the usual. Original and ranch (which is the best). We also have taco, pizza, spicy bbq ... Doritos are amongst my favorite chips but I don't buy them enough so I can't name that many flavors.

5. What is your favourite dorito flavour?
Cool Ranch and Late Night Taco Stop.

Awww, that's a shame. My condolences, Canada.

Those disgusting Burger King flavors. Like whopper flavored chips or ketchup and fries flavored chips.  Yuck!

Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, Blazin Buffalo, other weird ones just come and go.
Anyone remember 3d Doritos?

It was Nacho Cheese. However, this prompted me to go to the Doritos website. Turns out, the red doritos are made with Pork enzymes. I've been a vegetarian for almost six years...this is really, really bad news. It's actually making me sick. I can't remember exactly the last time I had a bag, but it was probably a couple of weeks ago.

6. Is anyone else annoyed that Frito Lay has discontinued the Jalapeno Popper flavour, at least in Canada?
No, but I'm annoyed that they put pork enzymes in their chips....very upset.

Bside - The wife of one of FI's coworkers made the most amazing dill pickle chip dip ever for Superbowl. I'm not a huge dill picle person but this dip was amazing! Apparently her mom concocted it when she was pregnant.

I have no idea.  I try to stay away from that aisle in the grocery store.  I think we have weird jalapeno ones

It was Nacho Cheese.  But, I'm not a dorito fan anymore.  Not for the same reason as Alanna, but similar.  I have celiac, and nacho cheese doritos have wheat in them, but cool ranch don't.  What are you doing doritos?

Nah, I don't like jalapenos.  So, as long as cheddar and sour cream stays available, I'll be a happy person.

Shoes - the CA thing has to be it.  My entire family (all of us from CA originally) loves jalapenos and super spicy food.  I can't stand it.  I do love cilantro and lime though.  Just no spicy food.  I think I have a weird genetic flaw.

umm. i think i found a pickle flavored kind. Not counting doritos, I suppose that's about it.

Nacho Cheese, Cool Ranch, and Cheeseburger.  We used to have the taco kind, but I guess they stopped sending it over here. Shame, it was delicious.

I'm trying to get that recipe from her, but I don't know if it is a secret family recipe or something. The best is I know it has chopped up pickles and pickle juice in it.

I never had those, but I was sad when Tostitos quit making Hint of Jalopeno chips.  Seriously, best.chips. ever.  And they were sooo good with my specialty 7 layer dip!

Wrkn - Weren't the jalapeno popper doritos amazing! They were that perfect blend of spicy (so FI liked them) and mellow due to the cream cheese (so I could eat them). I don't think I've ever been this annoyed about a chip or dorito being discontinued. You don't even have jalapeno & cheddar now?

I'm REALLY missing the Pepperjack Sun chips, too.

We get the Kettle Chips at work when we have lunch meetings. I just like plain sea salt best, but I tried sweet onion the other day. It was okay.

Creole Spicy Tomato (with Tobasco seasoning) is fairly common.

I love me some Jalepeno chips! Sweet & Spicy Jalepeno is the best!

Zapp's makes lots of unique flavors: Cajun Crawtators (crawfish), Voodoo Gumbo chips, Tiger Tators, and so on.

I have no idea... I don't usually get Doritos.

I think I'm a classic Dorito kind of girl. My dad used to eat Doritos smothered with melted cheese and salsa, and they were always original nacho-type flavor. But normally I go for jalepeno potato chips.

I didn't know they existed! If I ever saw them, I'd have to try them out!
