Ghost stories

Stealing a bit from Paige's post.. Do you believe in ghosts?

Last night I stayed at my grandmother's (she can't be alone) and she told me that she wanted to sleep on the couch so the "others" would have room.

This isn't the first time she has said things of this nature. Last time I slept there she heard a man out in the other room with me. That night my mom was with me and also heard these voices, (no man was in the house.) My mom also got pushed that night, like jerked awake.

I couldn't sleep a wink last night. I was terrified that I was going to wake up to someone standing over me or in the room/hall. I completely believe in ghost and know that they are there to protect my grandmother (she's old and very sick) but I just do not know what would happen if I saw one. After my grandfather (step-dad's father) passed, he came to me in a dream, but that was completely different and I don't know what I would do if he or anyone came in real life.

I don't think the line between living and dead is always definite. Or final. Not sure I'm making sense but I do believe spirits are among us. A lot of people believe in angels. Or for that matter, that God or some part of the trinity is with us. I think it's all the same concept.

I actually don't find it scary though. My brother is part of a paranormal group. They've seen some really wild things in an old TB hospital that was then a mental hospital, then abandoned.

My Grandfather came to me in a dream too, about a month after he passed! We were in his old house and be bought me Synders chips and he told me that he is okay. I told my family and they didn't believe me.

I have never seen a ghost, but if I did I would be so excited! About 20 min from my house there is a very old Quaker Cemetery and I go there to look for ghost's but I never see them. Man down!

I completely agree, and you are making sense. I just called them ghosts for the sake of not finding a better word? I believe they are amoung us, and I am completely fine with that, I just don't want to see them, in the middle of the night, watching over me as I sleep, you know?

Okay, I believe in ghosts.  And I have several stories.  F/U to my post in the Monday/Tuesday thread...

Mrs. Harper is mischievous.  When we moved into the house everything was cleaned out. There was nothing in the cupboards (I know b/c I painted them myself), nothing in the basement, nothing anywhere.  BUT when we finally started filling the cupboards (we had the house for a month so we could do reno before we moved in) there was this huge jar of coarse salt in the cupboard with scrawly handwriting on it.  We didn't know where it came from or anything.  So we put it on the counter thinking we'd put it back once we finished unpacking the next morning.

The next morning when we got up - it was gone.  Like disappeared.  I said it was creepy - Dad said I was crazy.  The salt wasn't anywhere to be found.  Wasn't in the garbage, wasn't in the cupboard, etc.  So we assumed someone took it and did something with it. We forgot about it and moved on with our days.  About 2 months later the jar appeared in the cupboard...at the front, where we keep items we use each day (PB, flour, tea, coffee) and no one had put it there.  Our only explanation? Mrs. Harper.

I definitely believe in the paranormal. There are things, like sunbird said, we just cannot explain. I also believe that there are people who can see spirits. Has anyone seen the show "Psychic Kids"?

I also believe that our dead loved ones are always watching us. I think my dad sends us luna moths. I don't know if anyone has ever seen a luna moth, but they are very, very rare and they're LIME GREEN. They are so rare that the first time one landed on our house, the town library came to document it. Ever since my dad died, we see luna moths all the time - at least once a month from March to July, one lands on our house and stays for 2 days.

    <div>This.</div><div>
</div><div>I've also seen my Grandfather...in a dream.  It was so surreal....about 3 or 4 years after he passed I was sleeping in my room in rez and I had this whole conversation with him about Grandma and he told me to take care of her and we just chatted.  I told him I loved him but then as I said it (in the dream) I realized "Wait a minute...Grandpa's been gone for YEARS".  I was like "Uh, Grandpa...I know you're not living."  He smiled at me and patted my head and just said "I know, honey.  But I love you"  I immediately woke up and screamed "DONT DO THAT!!"  I was basically telling him to stop messin' with me.  But it was a really comforting dream in a time of trouble in my life.  And it made me think more about my Grandma.  I called mom (at 4 a.m) to tell her about it.  </div><div>
</div><div>When I got home I made sure to help my grandmother out more, I hung around with her and such...and I was really glad I did b/c she got sick about 9 months later and then she passed away.  I can't tell you if it was my subconscious dealing with my problems or if it was actually my Grandpa.  BUT I think it was really him.</div><div>

I believe in "ghosts" and i believe i have encountered one.
There were also a lot of unexplainable things that happened in our house in the few years after tearing out some walls and adding on.
And some of my family members have seen loved ones that have passed. My great grandma lost a few tenants because they saw my great grandpa rocking in his chair....things like that.

I believe in ghosts and the unexplainable.

    My little story:
When my grandfather passed away, I was in Junior year of high school and living at my dad's.  My dad does international banking and would regularly get phone calls (almost every morning) at about 5 or 6am from headquarters in Portugal.  Well, on the morning that my grandfather passed away, the phone rang at about 5am.  I was asleep, but it woke me up (when I normally would've rolled over and gone back to sleep).  Somehow, on the first ring, I just KNEW that my grandpa had died.  I don't know how, but I knew with absolute certainty.

I told myself I was crazy and went back to sleep.  A few hours later, my dad came in to wake me up for school (we were going to fly to Europe that night to bury my grandpa so he didn't want me to miss any more school) and I asked him "Who was on the phone?" , when I would normally never ask because it was always work.  That's when he told me that grandpa died.

It still creeps me out how I knew.

Sometimes, I get feelings about people too.  If I get a really bad feeling after meeting a person, I'm ALWAYS right about it.  For example, the day before I got Confirmed, I met with the bishop who was confirming me.  I came home that day and my mom asked me how it went.  I blurted out "the bishop is a child molester".  I don't know how I knew, but I did.  Well, two weeks later, that bishop got arrested for child molestation.

My aunt had a daughter, Kendra, a year after I was born. She was born with hydrocephalus (a condition where fluid builds up on the brain) and wasn't supposed to even survive her first day of life. She ended up living for 13 years. She was severely handicapped. She never spoke or walked but you always knew she could hear and understand you.

After she died, my aunt started having problems with the light bulb in her kitchen blowing. It would stop working after only a couple days. She thought there was something wrong with the outlet or the type of light bulb but no one could figure it out. Finally one day it occurred to her that maybe it was Kendra trying to get her attention. She stood in the kitchen and said, "Kendra are you blowing the light bulbs? I think it's you. I know you're here and I never stop thinking about you." After that the light bulbs stopped blowing.

Now my aunt makes sure to talk to Kendra every day while she's cooking.

I totally get what you're saying paint. I think "ghosts" are just spirits around us.

A really good friend of mine passed away 2 years ago. His mom was a complete and total wreck when he passed and still has her days. She has started writing songs and recording albums dedicated to him and others who have lost their children. One day she was extremely stressed and just stopped what she was doing and asked "Carmen I am having a really tough day and I want to know that you are there watching over me, please give me some sort of sign so I know you are there."

When she went home, she signed on to her youtube account for her videos and there was a new comment on one of the videos. It said something along the lines of "Sharon I think your music is wonderful. Thank you so much for what you are doing, I am going to tell everyone that know, and share your music. God Bless, Carmen"

<div>OMFG something like this happened to me.  I was sitting in the kitchen getting ready for school and the phone rang.  I looked at mom and just said "Grandpa died."  She was like "Paige! Don't say that!"  She picked up the phone and it was the hospital.  My grandfather had passed away a few minutes earlier.  I have no idea how I knew, I just felt this real calm come over me and I knew he wasn't with us anymore...</div><div>

that's what i believe more in. i do have a Christian faith, and i strongly believe in that. so while i don't believe in the traditional idea of "ghosts" i do believe in the idea of angels and demons. and God as well, but the two are separate for me.

now that being said- the very idea of paranormal and dead people walking around terrifies me. same thing with aliens- i don't believe that they're here abducting people, but the idea of it is TERRIFYING for me.

I don't know that I've actually "seen" a ghost or spirit per se.  I have always felt very strongly that my dad's dad is with me on a regular basis.  He passed away 6 months before my parents got married.  My dad is an only child and he was always telling my dad how much he wanted a little girl, but since they weren't able to have anymore children, it was up to my dad to give him the little girl he'd always wanted.  I was the 1st born.  It's very comforting knowing he's around.

My best friend was 30 years older than me and passed away 4 years ago.  When I was out of work 2 years ago, I was really having a rough time of it emotionally.  I was still recovering from Shingles and getting frustrated daily at not being able to find a job.  A couple months after she passed away, her kids gave me a bunch of NASCAR t-shirt that belonged to her.  She always wore this perfume that I couldn't stand and I had washed the clothes to get the smell out. I kept the clothes in a pile, never finding a real home for them, just finding comfort that they were there.  About 3 months into my unemployment, on a really bad day, I walked by the area where I kept those clothes and got an overpowering whiff of that perfume of hers (2 years after I had washed them and hadn't smelled it since).  I couldn't smell the perfume the next day, but I sure felt alot better.

We also have a ghost at my church.  I havne't seen her, but I know several people who have over the years. The church has been there for about 50 years or so.  The ghost is a little old lady with a big floral hat and a chunky purse.  People have said she just comes and sits down next to them, never saying a word, just smiling and a few minutes later she's gone.  No one has any clue who she is.  The old photo directories have been looked through, but no one recognizes her.

Has your grandma had a brain scan recently? People tend to see things after small strokes. It's not that I'm saying she's not seeing protective ghosts, but rather that it's just as possible she has some pressure in her brain and should have it checked out because those things tend to get worse over time. So it'd be better to get her checked out rather than assuming what she sees is real, even if what sees is likely. My dad saw a lot of weird things after his stroke and it really disturbs me that my mum believes they were angels because they were actually being caused by a really bad thing that killed him.

I'm back and forth in what I believe. Movies with ghosts tend to freak me out and I swear for a week after watching them that shadows in my room are ghosts. *shiver* My dog likes to bark at a certain spot on the wall in our kitchen too and that freaks me out to no end. Our house is 100+ years so I wouldn't be surprised if it's picked up some ghosts...

The boys that my mom's best friend was raising and her partner all swear that they feel her in the house now (the boys are the partner's cousins who came from a bad family). They're not sleeping well at all because they keep thinking she's in their rooms when they're trying to sleep. I haven't heard of them seeing her or anything, it's just feeling her presence. It could just be grief, but as of right now it's got me more on the believing side.
