Not Engaged Yet

A weekend in the keys... HMMMM!! What will FI say?

So, my Aunt, who lives in Florida, just called me and practically started begging me to drive over to Florida tomorrow and go to Islamorada - Florida Keys for the weekend.  She has a friend who has a house there so all I would be paying for is just my gas to get there and her friends take care of the rest (i.e. the house, food, and drinks - WOW!).  I have always been extremely close to my Aunt but obviously never really get to see her too often since we've always lived in separate states.

The only thing is....I'm not too sure how FI will feel about this grand idea.  I do hate the thought of being away from him since we're finally together, but after all the stress I've been under with the move and not knowing anyone it would be SO great to spend some quality time with my Aunt.  Any suggestions on how I should bring this up to FI or should I just forget it??  I'm not working yet, so I really don't have to worry about that...

    DOOO ITTT!!!

You'll see him on Monday! That's the beauty of living together now - you're going back home to him. I would take advantage of not working and go.

As for bringing it up, when he gets home I would just say "Guess what! Aunt ___ called me today to invite me to her place in the Keys for the weekend. I'd really love to go! What do you think?" or something along those lines.

That's what I'm thinking Kat.. I don't know if he'll see it that way though.. We shall see I guess!

DO IT. Here's how vacation opportunities usually go - when you have the time, you don't have the money. When you have the money, you don't have the time. Well right now you've got time, and it won't cost much. Kiss FI goodbye, tell 'im you love 'im, and hit the road!

Hehe.. I like the way you think paint.

Did you know "Islamorada" means "Purple Island"?

You need to go. Have a blast. Once you get a job you may not be able to just drop everything and go for a weekend in the Keys.

Your FI will understand. Just tell him what an awesome offer this is, and that you'd love to go.

Then again, I never ask FI's permission for anything... so maybe my advice isn't the best. But I think you'd have a blast and you'd feel a lot better. GO!

You girls are total enablers.  I text FI and said that she had invited me but I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the weekend away from him and his response was that I should go!!  He said "I will miss you like crazy but I want you to go."  Golly gee, he's so sweet.

I wasn't exactly asking "permission"...I just didn't want him to be upset if I left for a weekend...

By "I don't ask for permission" I mean that I would have my bags packed before FI got home and I'd say "See you Monday!"

Jeter I understand. My first weekend here I was out of town for work and I felt weird about it. I understand feeling a little guilty but you've been there for what - a month now? Go for it. Don't feel guilty. You'll have lots of weekends with him now! :)

Yeah paint, this is my 3rd week here... and honestly, I'm starting to feel crazy just sitting here since I don't have a job yet.  I think it would be really good for me to see a familiar, loving face for a weekend - be able to just hang out with my Aunt and have a girls weekend.  I think I'm in desperate need of that...!  And you're right, I have every weekend for the rest of my life with him!!

I went to see my family last week for 2 days. I was really looking forward to seeing my dad, for the same reason. And to prove my point, I just went from twiddling my thumbs to TOTALLY swamped. I should have been living it up the past few days... Oh well. Beats starving.

Yeah, that's what FI kind of said.  At first I told him maybe I'd tell my Aunt that I couldn't make it this weekend but we'd try to visit this summer and he said since I'm not working right now I might as well go because once I do start working we might not have time at all...  I guess I should take the chance while I have it!

Did it make you feel better to see your Dad?  I think it will help me alot just to see her and be around her... It's been 3 weeks since I've seen someone I knew (other than FI AND FFIL, that is)

Yes, it helped to see my dad. He's more supportive of my move here. He was also very supportive of whatever wedding path we decide to take - anything from eloping to something formal. Although he agreed I'd be a moron to do something formal. :) Seeing my mom... not so helpful. She's not real happy with my move here - the whole "living in sin" thing. Yeah because we never had s*x before. Right. Sure.

There's something very comforting about a familiar face, no matter how much you love your bf/fi. I'm looking forward to seeing a client in a few weeks just because I've known them for years.

Ugh, that bites about your mother - mine never approves of anything, so I understand that one.  But I'm happy to hear that seeing your dad made you feel better - I think you just helped me decided that I'm going to go!  I think I'll come back feeling refreshed and with a better outlook on things.

Oh, FYI, if I begin to not make sense it's because I am KUI - Jack and Mountain Dew.

NOW you are taking advantage of strategic unemployment! KUI before 6 on a random Wednesday. You are my HERO!!!!  :)  It will feel so good to see your aunt. I'm glad you are going.

I'm with Kat and Jeana- pack your bags and tell him you'll see him Monday, lol

I think this is quite the opposite.  Not everyone can KUI by 6pm.  That takes talent.

LOL I was kidding, of course, about the low standards. :) I am a huge fan of anyone who can drink at 6 on Wednesday.

I was very seriously contemplating at starting KUI'ing at 10:30 AM, but I decided that may make me seem like a bit of an alcoholic.

I know this doesn't really answer your original question, but....

Boyfriend and I did a road trip through the keys and stopped overnight in Islamorada. We ate at a restaurant that had seating directly on the beach.  I sat with my giant, glowing cocktail (they put a glowstick in it, how clever is that?) and watched the sun set with my toes in the sand.  Somewhere in there, I also consumed an entire yellowfin tuna in about 30 seconds flat... it was that good ;)

Highly recommend this place! I didn't write down the name, but a little internet research has led me to believe it is called Morada Bay.
