WR update: Venue tour

So FI and I went and looked at that venue. We were overall pleased with it and there's a good chance we'll go with it, though there are a couple other options we're going to look into before we decide.

We really liked the reception space. I took a video of it if you're curious (linky. If you're wondering why it was so hurried, it's cuz I was trying to take it before the coordinator came back. Not that she would have cared. I'm just painfully shy :P). It has a fantastic view of the lake and I love the idea of using the balcony as a cocktail...thing. I also love the huge windows. It was set up for a meeting at the time, but I could tell I'd be happy with it.

The ceremony site we weren't quite as impressed with. We still liked it, but we weren't in love with it. At least at first.

Those picnic tables and grills bugged the crap out of me at first. Until I realized I could hide them under a nice linen/signs and use them for refreshments while the guests wait. Then I kinda liked them.

Plus the most important part is still beautiful.

This is the view from where the guests would be sitting, approximately.

But I'm terrible at feeling confident in my decision making skills, so I want to know what y'all think. Am I deluding myself into thinking it's pretty just cuz the price is fantastic? Or do you agree that putting a table cloth over those tables would make all the difference? :P

Extra info: it's technically in a public park, though the actual area would be blocked off day-of with people standing guard. But the sounds of children in the distance and geese noises (and appearances, really) are a possibility. I think I'd be OK with that, but how would you as a guest feel?

  • I think both the reception hall and the ceremony site are beautiful. I think you could definitely make the picnic table work with some nice linens, refreshments, and signs (just make sure you have table clips and weight down the decoration in case of winds).

As for the sound of kids in the background and geese - I wouldn't really mind as a guest, as long as I can hear the ceremony over the background noise. Congrats finding a venue you two like!

  • I think it's beautiful, Zip! As a guest, I love outdoor weddings/ceremonies so the noise wouldn't bother me as long as I can still hear what's being said.

  • It's so pretty! I wouldn't be bothered by background noise. The only thing that would be weird to me in a park setting would be if random uninvited people were peering on, but it sounds like they have that taken care of!

  • I love it! That gazebo is so pretty, and I love the trees and the lake view.

If you're worried about other noise, you can rent a small sound system to mic the officiant and play any music (or it you're getting a DJ, they often will bring a small system for the ceremony).

Background noise is just a fact of outdoor weddings. One venue we looked at is right in the landing path of a major airport. We decided a low-flying 737 was a little too much noise!
  • The gazebo is so pretty!! And right by the lake? Seems pretty perfect!

  • I love it! I don't think you will care some much about the bench on the day of. I like the idea as using it for refreshments for guests.
