Not Engaged Yet

Not engaged yet

Hi,

I wanted to join the knot because my boyfriend and I have been talking about marriage recently. I'm not engaged yet, but we have decided that we will be getting married next summer, as long as we can get everything that we want for our wedding. I think he might propose on my 30th birthday but that isn't until December. I am not sure if 6 months is enough to plan the wedding, but I can't tell him when to propose. Just thought I would share about me.

Re: Not engaged yet

  • Welcome!

6 months is plenty of time to plan.

  • Hi!

We have a 1 year engagement, and right now we pretty much have to wait a few months to do anything else because there isn't a lot we can do yet, so that will be plenty of time.

I wish we had had a shorter engagement...two years was mildly torturous.

I will 100% agree on you with this one!

  • We decided to get married last week, and are having the wedding in April. So i have about 7 weeks to plan mine. 6 months is plenty.

  • I"m sure 6 months will be plenty of time.  I wouldn't want any longer than a year when I get engaged, I think I'd go nuts waiting.

    Tell us about yourself!!

  • 6 months is definitely more than enough time.

    Hello fellow Ohioan!  ::Waves::

As other have said we'd like to know more about you and your BF.  You mentioned your age, but what about his.  Also what do you do for a living?  Do you all live together?  Do you have pets?

  • Ok, so my boyfriend and I met online in October and we have been together ever since. I am 29 and he is 26 and it has been a great four months. I am a teacher and we don't live together yet. We are planning on getting a place together this summer when the weather will be warmer. I think people might think that we are moving fast, but when you know it is right you know. We started talking about marriage last month and we are so happy to be together. What is really amazing is that we both never though marriage was something for us, until we found each other we know that marriage is right and that we will spend the rest of our lives together.
  • Adding to what other ladies have said, I know from seeing my cousin plan a wedding, that it can be done in a few months - but you might have to compromise on venue, extravagance, etc.

As for what you've said about others thinking you're rushing into things.... If you were 18, been with a guy for 4 months, and talking about marriage, I would probably be of that mindset. However, I tend to think that the older you get, the more sure of yourself you are, and the more able you are to correctly identify your wants and desires. You're turning 30 this year, while you certainly aren't OLD, you're definately old enough to know what you want. My parents were together 6 months before they got engaged, and were engaged for 6 more months before they got married. They were 28 and 25, and have been together for 30 years this year. My mom was 28, btw.

Overall though, it really does depend on the two people, but I think you probably have a good idea of what you want out of life.
