Not Engaged Yet

Cool.

Last night sucked.  My skin allergies are so bad this time of year that I'm perpetually itchy and have trouble getting comfortable even at the best of circumstances.  Add a fussy dog and stressed out FI to the mix, and I hardly got any sleep at all last night.

But I still dragged my ass out of bed 3 hours before my usually wake-up time for an online "meeting" with a company I might work for, and got all pretty and sat down at the computer with all of my stuff ready...

...and it turns out the meeting is tomorrow.  I'm an idiot.

Anyone else done something stupid lately?

Re: Cool.

  • That sucks about the whole skin thing. My skin is extremely dry this time of year and lotion does not seem to help.

I've also been sleeping on the couch lately with working two jobs bf seems to get bored at home by himself and has been drinking a beer or two which makes him snore. Not so fun when I cannot sleep.

That so sucks about the mix up. At least you were a day early and not a day late!

  • My side job is at a popular chain cafe. I normally close which means cleaning. The other night I was vacuuming the dining room and the vacuum wasn't working well an spitting things out at me. Other people complain about it so I assume it was just because it was a crappy vacuum. I got almost all the way through the dining room when my manager came out and I mentioned it wasn't working well. She looks at it and tells me it's because the hose was detached. I felt like such an idiot. I had noticed that but just thought it was like a place for the accessories to attach. You can tell I don't vacuum much...

    Every day of my life.

  • edited January 2012
Oh Elle, that just stinks. I totally did the same thing Tuesday. Got all gussied up for work even though I didn't feel like it at all thinking I had an interview, but it was actually scheduled for Wednesday. Then I did the same yesterday and the guy had already taken another position so that was pointless. I have another scheduled for today...so here's day 3 of me looking pretty and not feeling up to more than sweats. This guy better show!

  • I have meetings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I could have sworn both meetings were 10 a.m., so I come sauntering in this morning at 9:20, get my stuff ready to go to the meeting... oh, Thursday meetings are at NINE a.m. Doh.

    <div>Me too. </div><div>
</div><div>Here's a recent example: My external hard drive hasn't been working for about 9 months. When I plugged it in, my computer didn't recognize that it was there. It didn't matter, since I wasn't really using my computer for anything important, but since I'm back in class now, I needed it to work. Monday night, I marched downstairs to where FI was sitting and announced that I needed him to plug it into his computer to see if it was just something with my USB port or if it was actually effed. As I was talking, I was jiggling the cord around in my hand, and noticed that it wasn't actually plugged into the hard drive all the way. It's been like that the whole time - there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, I'm just dumb. </div>

  • Hahaha.  Thanks for all of your anecdotes.
  • Elle, have you tried taking an oatmeal bath?

I swear by this when my eczema gets bad.  I don't have a tub anymore  though Cry

<div>I looooove oatmeal baths and they work wonders.</div><div>
</div><div>(I don't buy the Aveeno packets, though.  I buy regular old quaker in those cardboard tubes, throw in the food processor until it feels like powder, and voila!  I've also found that adding some oat <em>bran</em> really helps.  It doesn't dissolve, but you can pick up clumps of it and rub it on your skin and it's so soothing.)</div><div>

<div>Does it really work? Because I have been dealing with bad eczema for the first time this winter. Our tub is kinda gross, but if it really helped I might just make the effort to try and make it a little more inviting...How long do you soak for? And do you rinse off afterwards?</div>

I would just lay in the tub until the water starts to get colder (maybe 20 minutes?) & I would rinse in the shower afterwards.  I think if you leave it on it'll be really sticky.  Also, the relief is only temporary, it's not a cure or anything.  </div></div>

  • I really want to try an oatmeal bath, because I get very dry & itchy in the winter, and I have super sensitive skin... but baths just make me squirm. Especially baths with chunky oatmeal in it. I know a lot of people really enjoy taking baths... but I just feel weird...

Has anyone else seen the Seinfeld episode where Kramer says he feels like he's "marinating" ?? Yea, that's what I feel like.

  • Bri, I guess I like marinating.  I've always enjoyed baths.  When we found the house we live in now, no bathtubs was our biggest hesitation.

Swhite, yes, they help a lot.  You'll definitely want to shower off afterward, like RDR said, but make sure it's just a quick rinse and not a lather-up type of shower.  You want some of the oatmeal residue to stay on your skin.  Also, while you soak, pick up some of the clumps of oatmeal from the bottom of the tub and rub them on your worst areas.  It's just...  so soothing.

Gosh, now I want to go rent a hotel room just so I can take an oatmeal bath.
  • :(   I am sorry Elle.  I do stupid things all the time; in fact I think I am part stupid. But of course I can't think of anything right now.  Except that I spelled pre marital wrong in my other thread.
