Outdoor Ceremony Amplification?

We are getting married on an overlook, on the side of a mountain! (Totally gorgeous!) But, we are concerned that our guests might not be able to hear us and the officiant during the ceremony. The location does not have electric so a regular PA system is not possible. I was looking into battery operated PA systems but I can't find one for rent and we don't have a couple hundred dollars in the budget to just buy one. Does anyone have any alternative ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Outdoor Ceremony Amplification?

  • I've been to outdoor weddings that worked fine without amplification, and others where I couldn't hear a thing.  I think as long as it's not windy out, and you project your voices, you should be fine.    I've never heard of battery-operated PA systems, but I guess you could use a boom box (some run on D batteries) and a cordless microphone (also run on batteries) ....might not be the best sound quality, so you should test it out first.

I work at Staples, and a while back we had an ION Tailgater for sale. It's a portable audio system and runs like two hundred bucks or so, and it works with iPods and includes a microphone.

That's the link to Amazon in case you want to check it out. I might end up going with it for my wedding since I want our ceremony to be in a open field and power would definitely be a problem out there.
