AW: Dress shopping

I went dress shopping today, and really loved 2 dresses.

This one is very light weight and comfortable. And it is cheaper of the two.

This one photographed better. But, it was really heavy and I kept pulling it up. I realize it was a sample dress that was really too big, and that it would have a lot less fabric on my own, but I worry that it will still fall down. Oh, and it was about $800 more. The model is also a little creepy looking in this picture.

And I also found this bridesmaid dress... in red

Those are both really pretty! Beading isn't my style but I think the 2nd one is really gorgeous!

For some reason I kept getting an error when I tried to look at the first dress. The second is very pretty though! This is for your wedding dress, correct?

ETA: I am an idiot. Ignore me. I missed the first dress and was instead looking at the bridesmaid dress. I absolutely love the first dress. The beading is gorgeous.

Yeah, it is for my wedding gown.

I love lots of beading and details.

Of course. Ignore me, I was looking at the bridesmaid dress! HA! That's why I got confused.

I like the first one better.  I think the second one is really busy.

I think they're both amazinggg. But it really depends on how YOU feel in them. But you're right, in a sample size it won't fit nearly as well, and tailoring will fix that, but could it also have been where the neckline sat? It could just have a lower neckline.

I like the first one best!  And re-read what you wrote - you're clearly liking the 1st dress more, it seems.  Go with your gut and what you feel beautiful and comfortable in.

I agree with Cate that it sounds like you like the 1st dress best.  I like them both, but I think the 2nd may look your chest look really large if you are busty.  It definitely draws the eye to that area.

I personally like the first one best.  I also like the bridesmaid dress.  Smile

And the problem with this is??
  • edited December 2011
Bren, I don't think I could tell where the neckline was suppose to fall because it was so big. But, my friend and I were just discussing the neck line of wedding gowns, It seems like they are getting lower and lower.

    Calindi, You're totally right. I didn't notice that until I re-read it.

SKP... I need all the help I can get in the chest area!! I asked FI if we could afford to add a boob job to the wedding fund, I can use some extra padding up there :)

I want to keep shopping. That is what I want to do :) This was my first time out, so I don't want to jump to a decision. I'm going out on Saturday to look with my bms.

Agreed. It does seem like you have a preference for the first one, though

Then keep shopping!  If I were you, I'd make a Word document with pictures of the dresses you're considering and your impressions and comments (you won't remember as well after a few more dresses, I imagine).  If you get that feeling of "the dress", then you can scrap the document and buy that dress.  If you're one of those people who has to think about it, the document will help you see your impressions and thoughts.

I like lists, can you tell?

I think that is a great idea. I'll start working on it tonight! I'm horrible at remembering my thoughts.

And don't worry, I love lists too! I keep a running list in my day planner, on my fridge, in my purse, I'm constantly writing lists down!

If you go to the right place they can REALLY clip it for you. The dress I was in that I posted last week was 3 sizes too big. They used clips that look like the end of a jumper cable.

I prefer the 2nd because I am not a huge fan of that type of scroll work on the first. The silhouette on the 1st is sexy though. I love mermaid :)
