Check!

Well, I'm probably doing EVERYTHING out of order - but... I'm okay with that!  I've already got my dress (!!) and now we've got invites!  They are from Michaels - $25 for 50 invites.  The packages come with the invite, reply card and 'fancy' envelope!  It also comes with the white ribbon, but I'm going to use a teal ribbon instead to tie in both colors!  They are definitely going to be a big DIY printing project - but, I think they're so pretty and simplistic!  I thought I would want to get some online that come to me printed, etc... but, I couldn't pass up the price of these (with my coupons they were like $.25/invite)!
What do you think?
Anybody else doing/do these and have hints/tips for printing?  Obviously THAT'S a long way off, but, I'll ask now! :-)

I bought invites from Micheals myself that also had a ribbon through them.

For printing. That was easy. In the document if you set it to the same size as your invite it should print perfectly.

Also the ribbon - when you feed it through the holes the ends will fray a little bit. I also changed the ribbon color on mine. I bought a wheel (with a blade for cutting... not sure what its really called) but it worked really well for giving the ribbon a nice clean cut.

My biggest headache was the response card. I was using word and I couldn't figure out (if there even is a way) to split the document in half so I had a lot of trial and error there before it was posistioned correctly on the card.

    Good luck!

Thanks loopy!  I was sure there's a way - or else they couldn't sell them! haha.  With the ribbon I know it's gonna be trial and error - but, I'm used to burning (or gluing) my pink ribbons on my pointe shoes and I was going to see if that worked.. if not, we shall see!  Hopefully the response card isn't too crazy! :-)

I should have added that I have little patience and get frustrated really easily if something isn't working right for me the first time. I was also trying to add fancy scrolls to the response card to make them look a little more dressed up.

O goodness.. how did the scrolls turn out?  I would like to try to make them a little fancy, but I just don't know yet!  Not that I NEED to worry about it right now!  And don't worry - I get very frustrated very quickly.  Yesterday was the epitome of that for me.

I have always loved damask too!  Back in the day (like, 4 months ago before I actually had a 'reason reason' to plan a wedding)  I thought i wanted black and white damask with teal accents... I'm still getting a little damask! :-)  And it still speaks 'spring' to me

For the scroll I just went to the microsoft clip art online and searched for scrolls. I posted one at the top and one at the bottom. That was fairly easy. That was after trying to fade out a background and type on top of it and all sorts of other things that are far too advanced for my computer/design skills.

FYI-- according to the guy at the post office, anything with ribbon costs moe to mail.

And I'm sad about my lack of inviteness.

The envelops I have seem huge, that is the part I think may cost me more. My ribbon lays really flat so it won't add any additional bulk above the invite, insert, rsvp and rsvp envelope bulk. When I think of a guy thinking of ribbon I think of a big floppy bulky bow. I could be wrong in this thought.

I'm scared to bring the full invite to the post office to find out postage.

I bought my invites from michaels last week and on my box it said that there were free templates online to use. Might want to check that out.

Also, my uncle is a Postmaster and he said that anything with any sort of bulk is at least 66 cents.  BUT the good news is that there won't be any postage hikes this year so we are slowly buying all of our stamps over the next several months and they will last us until after our wedding next January.

    Good luck!

aperitisa - that's a good idea about stamps.. buying them slowly!  That is a HUGE cost that just really never registered in my brain!
Hopefully my bow isn't too bulky.. and I don't know what else would go with the invite except the RSVP card... unless I add another card with accomodation information --- o gosh, should I do that?  Half the guest list is out of town....
What else would maybe need to go in the invite? I know some people do maps, but, eh, I think they can do that on their own! :)

Are you doing a wedding website?  You could just put a link to that somewhere on the page that has accommodation ideas, directions, maps, etc.  That is what we are doing, especially since so many people are coming from out of town.

I do have a wedding website.. it's pretty bare now since I haven't actually set anything guests need to know.  I just wonder about all those people that don't have a computer/use the internet.. I guess they can get the news through word of mouth - where to stay, how to get there, etc. Just wasnt sure if there was another piece of stationery that was supposed to be stashed in there!

Personally I got cardstock that was in the same size as the invitation and included hotel info, a map, directions and our website on it. I felt like I needed to include directions with mine because with my venue if you put the address into say mapquest it gives you the wrong directions.

This for once is not at the fault of mapquest. My venue is a private country club and awhile back the president changed the address because he liked how Mississippi River Boulevard sounded over Otis Avenue. The only possible way to access the club is from Otis but directions will tell you to turn on M.R.B and you would then more or less be f-ed.

loopy - got ya! I was thinking about the cardstock option and including that.  If I get the venue I want, the directions are pretty clear - so, maybe I won't have to :)  And... that president sounds a little crazy-- anyone else? lol.

moonlight - I don't honestly remember/know what's in my bio but my colors are teal, orange and purple (a wine-y purple)

Yes I agree the president just made a big pain for the club in general. I suppose it would be too much of a pain to go and change the address back to what it was.

There is nothing that says that you need to include an informational card. If you don't think you need it consider it one less headache to deal with.
