Wednesday!

It's Wednesday! Today is my last day before vacation! So, to make the day go by faster let's do travel questions. I think Cate leaves soon too? So this could be helpful for us both.

1. How do you get ready to travel?
2. When do you start packing?
3. Are you afraid of flying?
4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
5. Where do you want to travel to next?

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I obsessively plan.  :) I also make sure that someone in my family has a list of the places I will be and where I will be staying as well as phone numbers for the hotels in case of an emergency.  When I travel internationally my mother gets a copy of my passport and my itinerary including flight numbers.

    2. When do you start packing?
Usually two days before I go anywhere.  That way I'm not freaking out about it at the last minute.  I always forget something small though, like a razor or hairbrush.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
    Nope.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
    Ethiopia. Long story.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
Europe.  Anywhere in Europe really.  As long as it's not Italy during a sanitation worker strike.

ETA: If I'm flying I always bring gum.  You never know when the change in pressure is going to wreak havoc on your ears, especially during descent.

Ooo fun way to start the day!

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I make lists upon lists upon lists.

    2. When do you start packing?
My mom starts a good three weeks before, so I consider it a serious improvement that I start two weeks early (for a big trip that is).  Smaller trips I would say 5 days?

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Nope, but FI has to fly every week and THAT scares me.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
Russia!  St. Petersburg to be exact.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
I'm anxiously waiting for our honeymoon next June!  Three weeks of bliss.  Two in Greece and one in Egypt (which is a HUGE bucket list check mark!)

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
Much of my travel is done at 12 hours notice or less. I usually make a last trip to Walgreens or Target .
    2. When do you start packing?
The night before, usually as soon as I get off the phone with FI
    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Not at all. There is still that thought of "I might die today" but it passes quickly. I thought I would be afraid of flying by myself but now I think I prefer it.
    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
    Probably to Las Vegas
    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
    I have a list:
I would like to use our Universal passes sometime soon.
I've always wanted to go to NYC for Christmas.
We will be going to Chicago for the Kristkindle Market around Christmas time.
Las Vegas but I'm about 99% sure FI and I would come home married.
    Pretty much anywhere would work.

THIS! I always make sure to have a pack on every flight.

Aperitisa- I used to get nervous with FI flying for work until he decided to rent a car to drive to Pittsburgh. That was worse.

I'm going to Flordia today! I'm so excited!!

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I put all new songs on my mp3 player, get together some new books to read, and I make tons of lists.
    2. When do you start packing?
Um...usually the night before or the day of, depending on when my flight is.
    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Not really. I have terrible travel anxiety though. It stresses me out A LOT! Being on the plane is when I finally get to relax.
    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
From Idaho to Virginia I guess. When I was 12 my family drove across the country.
    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
After, Florida...well I would love to go to Australia but I know that I won't be doing that for a few years.

I reaaaally want to go on an Alaskan Cruise..

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I'm an obsessive planner too. List after list after list of things to do, pack, etc. I try to figure out all my money (foreign currencies, etc), make sure I have all required meds, and all required documentation (which means locating the passport I always manage to misplace in my apartment).

    2. When do you start packing?
Depends how long I'm going away for/where I'm going. If I'm going to the cottage for a weekend, I'll pack the night before. Going on a weeklong trip, I'll generally start packing a week before (and if it's somewhere hot in the winter, it's even easier since you're not wearing those clothes anyway).

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
I don't think so, although I've only flown to 2 places.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
    The Caribbean on a cruise.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
Might do Niagra Falls this winter for a change, but I'm not sure yet. We're for sure heading to NYC this spring, then after that it'll be the East Coast of Canada.
    Beyond that I don't know.

Have a super-fantastic time on your vacation!! :)

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! Hope every other traveler has a good vacation too!

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I got a mani/pedi yesterday :) I make sure all plans are set and just get super excited. Maybe I should start making list!

    2. When do you start packing?
I wash all my laundry and make piles of clothes I want to bring the week before. I put it into the suitcase two days before I leave, and do the final stuff the night before.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Not really, I do get butterflies and such, but it usually passes quickly.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
I went to Bermuda on a cruise. Also Las Vegas, so I don't know which was further because they are in opposite directions.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
I want to go on another cruise. I also want to go to California at some point.

As for ears- I chew gum also, but it never works for me. I got these things called "ear-planes" and they are little rubber things that go into your ears. They look like small screwdrivers. They work WONDERS! I get them every time I fly now, they are so great.

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
Make a list of everything I need. Make sure all travel documents are in order. Confrim hotel/transportation/excursions, etc.

    2. When do you start packing?
I usually wait until a day or two in advance. DH starts packing weeks in advance.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
In Cessnas but not commercial jets typically. There have been times when I have gotten freaked out. I am more scared of a terrorist on board than the plane having a issues. Turbulence does freak me out though.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
    Europe - Italy, Austria, Germany.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
Well I am travelling to Mexico in 2 months, then to Monterey, CA in 6 months.

    1. How do you get ready to travel?

It depends on what kind of trip I'm going on. If it's a beach/relaxing vacation I make a stop at the library and get a much of movies and books. If it's Disney, none of that is needed. lol If it's a Disney trip we watch the Disney travel planner (even though we know everything. It's just a tradition).

    2. When do you start packing?

Usually the night before. I don't have enough clothes to be packed in advance. I usually do laundry and then pack.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?

I'm afraid of landing, but that's it.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?

    Deutschland!

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?

Mmm, I'll let people guess. Wink

ETA: For spelling oops, and to add I also scope out interesting places around where we're going and also print out geocaches to find.

Yep, yep!  I leave on Friday night!  Right now, I'm home with a head cold (it's super gross - I've gone through 2 boxes of tissues and I sound like a snotty frog) so I'm hoping to kick that soon!

I travel ALL THE TIME so I'm quite good at packing and traveling, and flying is a total non-issue.  Though the red-eye flight to Vienna combined with the time difference is going to make me a rather tired person on Saturday!

    1. How do you get ready to travel?

I have everything I need that day in my carry-on shoulder bag, which is specially designed for travel (separate pockets, zippers everywhere so things don't fall out or get pickpocketed and stay organized, and it has the ability to be attached to my suitcase so I don't have to carry it).  Everything else goes in my roller carry-on bag.

    2. When do you start packing?

No sooner than the night before, often that morning.  If it's just a weekend trip, maybe 30 minutes before I leave.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Nope, though I've been nervous with extreme turbulence before.  Like, 5 second free fall.  That wasn't the best experience.  But even when a plane caught on fire on the runway, I wasn't really scared.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?

I lived in China for 5 months.  I've backpacked Europe by myself for 2 months.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
This trip next week will be pretty awesome, so the next one will probably be more toned down.  We talked about doing a camping trip out in Oregon with my brother and his girlfriend in the spring.  We also have talked about doing a last-minute weekend trip to Latin America this winter at some point when we see a good deal.

Funny, FI just left to head to Canada not five minutes ago!

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
Research and more research. Then the lists start.

    2. When do you start packing?
About two days before, unless it's one of my one-night business trips. Then it's only the night before.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
Nope.  Been flying since before I can remember.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
Israel for work. Costa Rica for vacation.

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
Maui or Mexico. We're having a discussion about which. Maybe Cancun.

Beads- I keep my passport in my suitcase when I don't need it, it's kind of a giant clue for me to remember where it is. Same goes for the rest of my travel stuff I don't use outside of OOT.

CDC- My mom swears by earplanes but they didn't seem to work well for me when I had them.

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
I make lists too.  And make sure I'm off of work (that's always the hardest part)

    2. When do you start packing?
1-2 days before we leave (I'm a procrastinator and I'm not very high maintenance in the clothes/packing department)

    3. Are you afraid of flying?

On takeoff, landing, and in turbulence.  Or when we're flying through a THUNDERSTORM.  yea, that was about my worst flight ever.  My dad and BF's dad fly every week though, so I know planes are safe and I'm overanalyzing things.

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
    Paris (from Jersey)

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?

I think the plan is to go to Chicago next summer.  The rest of our traveling is to visit family.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

    1. How do you get ready to travel?
Another list maker here...I make extremely detailed lists (down to the # of bras I'll need, the specific shirts I'll pack, etc) well in advance of the trip.

    2. When do you start packing?
I have a pretty small house, so not much extra room to pack, so I'll make some piles during the week before I leave, then depending on when I'm leaving either the night before or the morning of.

    3. Are you afraid of flying?
I'm not a big fan of taking off and continue to fly upwards until we level off; also can't stand big amounts of turbulence

    4. What's the farthest you've traveled?
I went to Europe when I was 14

    5. Where do you want to travel to next?
Any of the "mini' honeymoon destinations that FI and I plan to go to over the next 5-10 years.

Guess they don't work for everyone. Someone told my mom about it one day and I have used them a few times since. I have terrible ears, and I was bawling every time we attempted to fly, so we had to find something. They work great for me, and I am so happy that I found them. I hated traveling before I found them.
