Fanciness

Based off of Button's thoughts:

What do you think is fancy? Mercedes? Designer clothes? Ottomans?

And what are you fancy about?

I think lots of things are fancy - I think it's a perception thing tho.  If it's nicer or more expensive than what you're used to you might think it's fancy but someone else may not...

That said I think the following things are fancy:
    - Luxury cars (come on i'ts got luxury in the title...it HAS to be fancy)
-People with in-ground pools.  This is not really common in town so when I see it it's usually at a big nice FANCY house.  Also, people with INDOOR ground pools *whistles* woooweeeeee!
    -  Cocktail parties - I lovee me a good dress up partay! (We're more of a beer and bonfire crew)
    - Open Bars. NEVER been to a wedding with one.  Been to a few functions with them...but at a wedding I'd be hellla impressed. (I know, cash bars are touchy around here but you asked =P )
    - Designer furniture.  I want some.

    Hmm I agree with Paige...

I consider those "show" houses where you are afraid to sit on the furniture fancy, with the marble countertops and matchy matchy everything

Also with the weddings, I have only been to one wedding with an open bar and it was deffinetly what I would call fancy. My friend was a bridesmaid and they had like all designer gowns and she had tons of parties and her bachelorette was a whole weekend at a hotel in boston and her parents paid for everything (including everyones hotel rooms for the bachelorette) we called it "The million dollar wedding"

I would also call those expensive imported cars fancy
And I guess, in a horse related sense, I think the people who pay $15,000 and more for a horse and then import it from another country are fancy...mine were $1,500 combined

Ohhh I agree about the horses - this crazy lady at our barn ALWAYS paid like 10-15 K for her horses and they had their own "section" of the barn.  They were beautiful animals but woah.  THat's def. fancy!

Hehe... Paige.... you totally remind me of my home town!  None of the weddings there had open bar - well, other than the keg in the back!  And bon-fires and beer were our kind of parties.  Who am I kidding - FI just had a bon-fire/beer party of our own not too long ago.

Oh, and as far as fancy.  I'm having a brain fart but the only thing that's coming to my mind is when I stayed at the Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas - now THAT was fancy.  Amazing rooms, valet parking (no choice), requirement that mean wear suit jackets in the restaurants...

I don't know what is wrong with me, but I guess I run in the "open bar" crowd. Man, will they be disappointed with my wedding.

To me, fancy is either A. something I don't event want to touch or B. something that makes me feel fluttery.

    Things I think are fancy:
    - custom made curtains
    - heated leather car seats
    - houses with "staff"
    - yards with tennis courts
    - "leisure" cars
    - Restaurants where you have to wear blazers
    - Sterling silver flatware with your monogram in it

I live in a very uppity area. But it's nice .They throw very nice yard sales and put great furniture out on the curb. Sealed

Oh yeah...we are suuuper fancy. My BF decided when we get married he wants to supply kegs and a variety of alcohol for people to mix their own drinks and allow people to bring their own beers. We went to a wedding last summer that had a cash bar but no good alcohols so we all packed coolers full of beer and drank in the parking lot...we are very fancy people.

Hetshup - as do I. There have only been to a handful of weddings withOUT open bar that I've been to. I've never been to one with a cash bar. My guests will wonder where all the liquor is!

We did this at a friends wedding last year. We would take cups from the wedding outside, fill them up, and bring them back in. It was the best dry wedding I've ever been to!

Everyone basically touched on my "fancy" stuff.

    - Garages that fit 4+ cars
    - Miniture cakes (Not cupcakes)
    - Valet Parking
    - The Waldorf Astoria Hotel
and I can't forget Grey Poupon

Paige- I was looking at houses online the other night and I found a house for less than $50 with a six car garage AND an indoor pool!  I want it just to say I have an indoor pool.

Fancy to me is... things that I don't see myself or people I associate with regularly with having.

Cars that cost over 50K... although I know dozens of people who have big expensive trucks that cost that much.

Heated driveways... to melt the snow.

Restaurants that require suit jackets for guys.

    Yachts.

As for the drinking issue... I've never been to a complete cash bar wedding.  I went to a distant relatives wedding who had open bar for 2 hours then just beer and wine after and a couple weddings that had only beer and wine open, if you wanted liquor you paid.  Most have been full out open bar... woo hoo!

I live just outside of Cincinnati and none of my family or friends are overly wealthy nor is anyone overly poor but Cincinnati is a very German as is my family and Germans like to drink.  Sealed

Yes, I know...shoveling snow would be a lot easier if it wasn't frozen to the drive!   I don't think that heated seated are all that fancy since you can get them in Fords and VW's not just luxury model vehicles.  But heated floors or driveways defintiely are!

I think yachts are fancy, as are having multiple homes. Esp if you don't use one all the time. Private planes too!

I had a neighbor tell me I was fancy b\c I have sprinklers. I also have heated seats, and my car is NOT fancy.

Typically houses that cost over $1 million.

Stores in the mall that have minimal items on the sales floor. I have come to realize the lesser the items the more expensive the store. The more items typically is less expensive.

Tv's that take up a good majority of a wall.

Ed Hardy T-shirts. (I'm not a fan but any T-shirt that costs over $100 is fancy.)

Almost anything that you can buy in the Galleria. (Mall in an upscale suburb of Minneapolis)

    Penthouse suites.

    Personal jets

Chauffers (I would love one of those!)

    Oceanaire seafood restaurant.

    Limos.

I consider most of loopy's list fancy:
    private planes
    penthouse suites/condos/apts.
    private planes
stores with hardly anything on display

    Also:
any type of staff - cook, gardener, housekeeper
    multiple homes
    flying first class

For some reason, using linen napkins at home always feels fancy to me.

Other than that I can't really afford to be fancy right now.  Although based on Paige's list I might be a little fancy :)

Ah, horses!  Where I rode growing up I had the cheapest horses at the barn (two, combined price = $14,000) and I felt like they were worthless to anyone but me.  Now that I'm working for a horse rescue I'm starting to realize how nice my horses were!  My next horse is going to be a $500 or less TB I pick up at auction, I love those crazies.  My two friends from that barn, however, both have $80,000+ warmbloods who are DEAD LAME and in pasture retirement at 10 years old.  One of them is going back to Sweden to find a new horse but "on a budget" (ie under $60,000) and the other is just going to go train w/ George Williams for a while.  I think they're both ridiculous and out of touch with reality, especially when they complain about $$$.

Flying first class, owning vacation homes that aren't rustic falling-down cabins, heated and/or gated driveways, staying in penthouse suites- that's fancy!
