Not Engaged Yet

Excited! (and an introduction)

Hi all! I'm just gonna jump in and say hi!
I'm NEY. lol I'm turning 31 next weekend and my BF will be turning 31 a few weeks after that. We have been together almost 5 years (the first few years were off and on a bit). We also lived together for about 2 years, but have been living apart since last September.
We've been talking about a lot marriage lately and I know he has a ring already. He bought the diamond first and it's in a simple solitaire setting. We talked about what style ring I would like last year so he knows I like vintage styles. He told me he planned to choose a vintage style setting for the diamond and that he figured he would just know it when he sees it. My best friend knows more detail about what i would like, but i'm not sure if he will go to her or choose it on his own. So i'm a little nervous about what he picks, but i'm also so excited to see what he chooses for me!
I guess the point of my post is that I'm getting excited and need to be talked down from the ledge of BSC! lol (did I get that right?) As I said, my birthday is coming up soon and we're taking a trip to Boston (actually arriving the morning of my birthday) and will be there a week. I'm thinking there's a good chance that he'll pop the question either for my birthday or some time during our trip. I don't want to get my hopes up in case this is not the time. But at the same time I can't help but be excited about the possibility!
Should I let myself be excited or do I need to be talked down from a ledge?

    Deep breaths.

I know it's easy to get excited and freak out but if you get your hopes up that he'll do it on the trip and then he doesn't you'll just end up disappointed and the trip will be ruined. Just enjoy life one day at a time.

Welcome, and congrats... this all sounds very exciting!

I know it's hard, but try not to get your hopes up about the trip. All I can say is that men have their own strange timeline that is impossible to predict. You want to have a good time and enjoy your trip/birthday. It's very possible that he may not propose that weekend, and you don't want to end up being disappointed with what would otherwise be a great trip!

    Ditto Button!

We went away for our anniversary and I had pushed a ring from my mind.  I didn't want to think about it, I just wanted to enjoy myself, and WHAM! he surprised me and proposed.  It was really special and wonderful AND I wasn't expecting it so that made it even better!

Enjoy the time you have together, enjoy your trip and just go in with no ring-expectations.

    Welcome to the board:)

Thanks! You guys are right! And honestly, i know i'll still have a great time if our trip turns out to be ring-less. lol But i admit i might be a tad disappointed. So while my mind knows i must stop...it's hard! lol Truthfully, i don't even know if he's gotten the ring in a new setting yet. But on that subject, BF's good friend is a jeweler. He helped him get the diamond and i would assume he would be helping him out in choosing a new setting. The other day while i was at his place, he was making dinner and got a call from said friend and took the call in his bedroom, which i thought was odd. But i didn't say anything. Later on that night his phone rang, he answered it and then just got up and walked outside. He was out there for a few minutes and when he came back in he went straight to his room before coming back to sit with us in the living room. I asked what he did and with a smirk on his face, he said he had to take care of some business. A large part of me thinks it could have been his friend dropping off my ring!
I know, i know. stop it now! lol
