Noob says hello! AMA

I started lurking this board a few months ago, and in anxious excitement I added my introduction to the board and then realized that maybe I wasn't snarky enough to hang out with all you awesome ladies. I've been posting a little bit here and there on the other boards with some ladies from here and haven't been verbally abused for my advice yet, so I decided to test the waters at the NEY board since that's where I belong! :)

So hello! Let the questions begin.

Basics: Name's Krista, 23, live in Texas, been with SO for a year and a half, STILL going through an ugly divorce from an abuser that I'm not proud of. I am an animal rescue junkie, and my favorite job has been bartending.

AMA!

Re: Noob says hello! AMA

  • Hi Krista. What does AMA stand for?

Do you rescue animals on your own or do you work at a rescue?

  • AMA = ask me anything

Hi Krista!  Are you from Texas originally? What is one Texas sterotype that is true for you? And one that is totally wrong.

rdr - Both. I have scooped up some that were along the road or lost and fostered them until I found new homes, but I don't have a multi-animal household. My allergies couldn't take it! I donate to the SPCA here in town and work there a weekend or two a month, when I have time. Question for you! What does your dress for your fast-approaching big day look like?

cschiano - I was born in California but moved to Texas when I was little, and lived here until I was 17, then moved up to upstate NY, back to California, and I have been back in my hometown for about a year now. A stereotype that is true is at least where I am, it's a fly-over state. Farming, bonfire parties in the field, cowboys and big trucks. Everything Jason Aldean writes about basically is my town. Haha. One that isn't true is that we're ALL redneck, close minded Bible thumpers. Most of us are, but not all of us. Haha! Question for you! How is Chicago as a place to live? Always wanted to go, just haven't yet.

  • steign - Haha. We met in high school, he was truly 'THE' popular guy. I was in lot of social circles, but they just didn't overlap his. All the seniors had to go to a full-day workshop for college prep and we had all of our 'mini-classes' together. We started talking, then hanging out, and had a summer fling before I moved away. We didn't talk for about 5 years, then when I moved back to town he saw me and begged to take me out on a date. We've been together ever since, and moved in together about 5 months ago.

I read a TON. Currently I'm going through the Game of Thrones series, but I'm a big Chuck Palahnuik fan, Stephen King, and I love any poetry by Keats. Question for you! Is Seattle as gloomy as they say it is?

  • Welcome to the board!  I actually enjoyed Texas A LOT when we went on a cross country trip.  I would go back in a second.  We love fur babies around these parts, so yay for being an animal lover.

What's your favorite color?  What books do you like to read?  What magazines do you like to read?

  • Hi! Welcome to the boards :) I went to Texas last summer...it was alright. I'm not a huge fan of the heat lol.

Why was bartending your favorite job? What do you do now?

  • buddysmom - I'm glad you liked Texas! It is terribly hot (and terribly cold, right now!), but it is something I think I've finally acclimated to. I have a corgi and a black lab, which is a huge and hilarious size difference to me. My favorite color is blue, definitely, and since I answered the books question, I have a seriously guilty pleasure of reading Us Weekly and People! I don't follow celebrities, but I like to read their MUD sometimes. Question for you: Is Buddy your adorable orange kitty in your pic?

danser - Thank you! Ugh. I think all desserts are my favorite. Haha. But as a truly special treat, I think when the BF 'makes' raspberries with chocolate chips in the middle. I could eat those for days. Question for you: What kind of dance do you do? I was a coach for a few years in California for a competition jazz/hip hop/lyrical team :)

beth - When I lived in Austin, I remember one day it got to 110 with 80% humidity. That was when I decided I had had enough of there. I love bartending because I love mixology! I've met so many amazing people serving, and I made a lot of friends and a lot of money doing it. I just recently quit because unfortunately a friend from high school died in an alcohol-related motorcycle crash, just two weeks after his brother committed suicide. I didn't want to be responsible for peoples lives any more (getting them drunk and sending them on their way). I am now back to being a receptionist, and super thankful I have a well paying and full time job that allows me to goof off on TK :) Question for you: How did YOU meet your SO?

<div>How interesting! I actually grew up in upstate NY (in the sticks 45ish min south of Rochester), so I relate to a lot of what Jason sings about too. . . fewer cowboys, more rednecks. It is nice to know not everyone in Texas is close minded :) </div><div>As for Chicago, I've lived here about 5 and a half years. I like it a lot. It feels like a nice mix of big city and small-ish town. There is a lot of great architecture, museums and dining. DH and I don't plan to stay here forever, but it has been a good place to live so far.  I most definitely recommend a visit! </div>

    Posted by kmbryant2413[/QUOTE]

I really <strong><em>hate</em></strong> humidity! My grandparents live in Virginia and as much as I love visiting them I always really hated the humidity.

My BF and I met our freshman year of college (4 1/2 years ago). He lived in the dorm room below me. The week before classes some girls on my floor were talking about a boy they met that they thought was really cute and I said well let's go get him and do something fun. So we went to his dorm and knocked on his door. BF was actually in the dorm next to his but him and his roommate came out because they thought we were knocking on their door. We've been inseparable ever since!

Also the guy were were looking for SO not as good looking as my BF :)

I saw you were reading game of thrones I just finished those books up in the fall.  I am now reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King.  It's interesting but it's slow going at first with that book.

I dance mostly ballet, but I also do jazz, pointe, tap, modern.  I've been dancing my whole life mostly at this point for fun.  I also dance quite a bit in musical theater performances too. Dance classes beats going to the gym!

cschiano - My best friend went to school is Rochester, so I've been in that area a lot. We were pretty close to neighbors! I lived in Ithaca. Not for Cornell or anything, that's just where my family is. I would love to go to Chicago, I'm a food junkie and Anthony Bourdain is my hero. He makes any place look exciting. Where would you like to live, if not Chiicago?

beth - That story is adorable. I love sort of 'happenstance' stories like that. I'm glad you guys are happy! :) Yeah, humidity sucks. Takes about two weeks to get used to, then you go someplace dry and wonder how people breath there! Haha

danser - I have never even heard of that book! I guess I'm not as big of a fan as I thought I was :( Is it a new one? Bag of Bones is definitely my favorite, and Under the Dome is in incredible read. Most of his books start off slow. And nice, on the dance! I saw you had a show coming up here when I was reading the OLW. Best of luck to you! I wish the city I was in participated more in things like that.

Peek - Hi! I has visited far north of CA, including Lodi, Sacremento, San Fran, etc. I was born in Chula Vista, and lived in San Diego. So expensive, but the running joke there is that you 'pay for the weather'. No one can complain about 70 degree and sunny weather every day, and getting to have a beer on the beach after work. What do you do?

Then I got seriously addicted, but I loved my job and loved learning more about coffee (roasting, where it comes from, etc.). I quit it for a while, and now that I have to work an 8-5 instead of bartending hours, I have to guzzle about 6 cups in the morning. I'm not a morning person. Do you have any furbabies?

That's really great! My FI and I rescued an injured stray cat a couple years ago. We made him a home in our basement until we could find a no-kill shelter to take him to because he was SUCH a sweet cat, I just knew he would be a great addition to someone's family. Not too long ago, we were driving by the humane society (ours is not so humane) and there was a pit tied up outside, it was going down to like 15 degrees over night that night and the shelter was closed until 1pm the next day. We found him a great home and he's doing well now!

Normally yes, it's pretty gloomy between end of October - Juneish with a few days here and there but, this winter has actually been pretty nice. We had a gorgeous day on Monday, around 50ish. I think it's supposed to rain this whole week but, I'm so glad we've had a nicer winter than last year.

<div>I totally wish this is what I wanted to do with my life.  Alas, people are generally hard for me.  I'm very much an introvert with people I don't know, so stuff gets super exhausting pretty quickly.  I'm also hypersensitive about what I say, so hours upon hours of overanalyzing every word I've said and people of said gets old.  I plan on staying here for a couple years to bring the organization up to speed - they're kind of living in the dark ages, and then moving on.</div>
