College organizations

I'll probably get flamed for this, but was/is anyone in a sorority or fraternity? A social one, an honors one, a department one... Whatever :) Or were you in any organizations in college?

I don't see any reason to flame this question (for the record)

I wasn't in any organizations, but I was highly involved in my church so that took up 90% of my free time.  I just didn't have to rush to join :)

No Greek life for me, but I was a member of the Judo club all 4 years that I was in school, and I was President for 2.

    Well, I don't.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

I didn't get offended by the question, Ember, but I do know why some people can be overly-touchy about not going Greek.  At my school, a huge percentage of the student body was involved in a fraternity or sorority, and with their frequent exclusive on-campus events, matching game day outfits, and special treatment at every local bar, it was easy to sometimes feel like I was back in high school being unpopular.

My university didn't have any fraternities or sororities at all. I think there is a frat now, but I'm not positive.

I was in Phi Kappa Phi...  and something else.  I don't remember.  I was too busy to do much socially, between class full-time, working, and teaching!
  • edited December 2011
Oh wow. We didn't get any special treatment for being greek (I feel so left out). LOL! But, our school had a very low percentage of greeks. About the only special things we got were that we were always on the list for fraternity parties (but lets be honest, any girl could get into any fraternity party being on the list or not).

    I am indeed.  :)

I doubt I would be good at karate either.  It's too precise.  Judo is almost a "messy" art.  I only joined the club because I met a cute representative at the student organization fair, but I was hooked after one class.

I wouldn't have survived college without it.  It's where I got practically all of my friends, and it was an amazing outlet for stress.  It's also where I met FI.

I don't think I would have survived a sorority at my school, frankly ;)  I went to a pretty big party school in general, and the Greek population was even more crazy parties.  I'm not a partier :)

I also was a doctor's office junkie.  I was sick (still am, but have better control over it now) and got to go see my doc every other Friday at 1 PM.  Yep, a standing appointment at the doc.  That's a bad sign.

And I TA'd for chem lab :)  My students were (and are) awesome.

I was in a business fraterniety, Delta Sigma Pi. It was a lot of fun, but I also learned valuable skills such as interviewing and professionalism. Between school and work I ended up not having much time for it my last year, though.

We don't have sororities at my school (all girls, small and private, so no need) but there is a big Greek life at the large state university down he street.

All of our honor societies are Greek. I am a Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman honor society), Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science honor society) and a Kappa Nu Sigma (junior honor society). Do they really count though?

I was in a sorority.  I disaffiliated after a year, because I didn't want to be involved in the BS and girl drama anymore.

ETA:  And I just got invited to join a legal academic fraternity, reserved for people in the top 1/3 of their class...so I'll do that to add to my resume.

I'm in Air Force ROTC and I'm involved in Silver Wings on a national level.
I want to get into Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honors Society.

No sororities for me, I'm too busy. I would probably check them out if I wasn't busy, everyone in them seems to be happy with their decision to join.

I went to a southern school where sorority membership cost a FORTUNE, so I couldn't justify joining one. I was a member of the International Club though...our parties blew the frat parties out of the water. >:)

I'm sort of in an unofficial sorority now. Or at least that's how we justify it. lol

I wasn't in a sorority in college either.  We did have a large Greek population at my school, but the student body population is so large, that wasn't the only place to get involved.

I was involved in Fish Camp.  It's an off site 4 day retreat for incoming freshmen to teach school traditions and to give them a chance to meet other freshmen in large and small group settings.  I was a counselor for two years and the third year a co-chair for a camp.  It was a lot of fun and where most of my friends at school came from.

Alpha Phi Omega.  But our chapter is stupid.  Our treasurer told me she was having me stricken from the national roster because I can't afford dues.  (We're a service fraternity...).  So, boo on them.  I'm on exec for Xi Theta Chi though (foreign language honor society) for German!

Nope. I transferred twice (long story) and the college where I finished my degree didn't have them. I don't know that I would have wanted all the drama of a sorority, anyway, though. It would have had to be a very chill kind of sorority. :)

I do want to join the Daughters of the American Revolution sometime soon, though. I have family who are members. Might be kinda cool.

I was PR director and webmaster for Delta Omicron, which sounds like a sorority but is actually a music honors society. I contemplated Delta Zeta sorority, which sounded fun, but I couldn't afford dues. It's probably just as well. All fraternities and sororities were thrown out of my school after some frat boy got drunk and fell off a balcony in Mexico.

I was also a member of the Communication honor society, but I can't remember what it was called because I didn't do anything with them other than join. (Google tells me it's Lambda Pi Eta.)

I'm an ALD girl, too!  I stayed active in it during my Sophomore year (we did a lot of service on campus and we chaperoned all the dances at the jr high down the street) and started into my Junior year as the Junior advisor but that didn't last long, our group started getting way too political for me so I left.  I was also inducted into Golden Key Honor Society, but our chapter wasn't active at all.

I lived in the dorms the entire 3 1/2 years I was in school and my Freshman year I was really active (trying to meet people) - we had 7 floors with about 90 girls per floor and I was our floor's rep at the weekly meetings.  Wasn't anything too glamorous, but since I was active, I got to work on the homecoming float for our dorm, so that was pretty cool.
