Labor Day was not in fact, the day of labor.

It's pretty normal for a first baby to go late, right?
  • edited December 2011
Hazel, yes it is "normal" for first timers to go up until and beyond their due date.

Usually they will do things to try and help move things along such as "strip the membranes" once you have reached your due date.   After a week overdue they will start wanting to induce... at 2 weeks overdue they practically force induction as the womb is not made to last much longer than 40 weeks and not having the baby can actually be more harmful.

dwest - What is "strip the membranes"? Although, I'm not sure I really want to know, it certainly doesn't sound pleasant.
  • edited December 2011
Haha, you probably don't want to know... it's scraping of the muocous membranes of of the cervix... yum, right?!

Oh, I didn't know what that was called. My friend had that done by her midwife and that was definitely way before her due date.

It definitely did not sound good based on what my friend described.

He is not here.  I even went on a job interview today.

I want to avoid induction at all costs.  I am going to acupuncture though.  My OB will let me go until 42 weeks, and luckily, they have my due date as this Thursday.  This gives me an extra 4 days to go naturally.

Good luck Mutley! I have no idea if it's true or not but people always say that to induce labor you need to have sexWink.

Induction sometimes is necessary even if you go into labor naturally.

Bryland was not turned the right way, he was facing the right.  I had to be put on pitocin, and have my water broke.

Being in labor for a day and a half that was my dr.s orders.  Since he was not turned right my contractions were not able to do anything.

He should have been a c section but i was trying to avoid that at all cost.  Instead he was vacuumed out 5 times.  Badly bruised and scrapped on his head.  I wish i would have made the choice of a c-section.  For 4 months he was not able to turn his neck to the left.  His head was badly miss shaped.  He has had it x rayed to see if the bones were fused together, thankfully he is fine.  He saw a neurologist, who said he had a mild case and his head will round out.

I just wanted to share, for the simple fact of being a new mom.  We have not been through labor and sometimes complications happen and your not sure which is the right choice.  Good luck hope you have a nice delivery.

Thanks!  Yes, people say that.  Older ladies are very blunt about it, in fact.  Quite comical.

I might actually have a teaching job!  So ridiculously excited!  I wouldn't start until after Thanksgiving.

Fingers crossed for you! What grade level/subject area? They would be nuts not to hire you.

Also, you gotta love old ladies!

There are two openings at the school.  They are going to have 1 combo grade and 1 straight grade.  I could be teaching 1st, 1/2, 2/3 or 3rd.

The principal called me and stated how much she wants to hire me.  However, they need to reduce class sizes and she is not sure if the district will let her wait for me to be available.  We get to wait to see if the district will clear her to hire me, even though I will not start for 12 weeks.

Good. At least you know the principal has a brain in her head! I hope the district is willing to wait for you. I'll think good thoughts for you on all fronts, the baby coming soon and healthy, you doing wonderfully after delivery, and a new job! Keep us updated!

Mutley, good luck!  I know how much you want to be in the classroom again.

Good luck with Mr. Man, too.  Definitely try and see if  sex will help.  Wink

Mutley, you are the busiest pregnant lady I've ever seen. If I had an interview with a lady who was 9 months pregnant, I'd say she's pretty darn dedicated. Good luck with everything and keep us posted!!

Good luck with the job situation Mutley!

My co-worker's doctor told her and her DH to go have sex to get things moving. DH freaked out a bit. The doctor looked at him and said "you got her into this situation, you can help get her out of it".
